Bagdale has become our twice yearly weekend break. It never fails. The hotel is clean comfortable and furnished to a high quality. The staff are always friendly and helpful. If dining here you won't be disappointed. And if staying here you'll enjoy every minute. Looking forward to November and our return.

My wife and I stayed for one night, The main Hotel is a lovely old building with loads of character, I just wish I had paid the extra to sleep in there rather than the annex. Although all the staff were fantastic and they couldn't do more to help you, the hotel does not in my opinion offer good value for money. Our room was in the annex on the ground floor accessed via the rear hotel car park. The room was of a decent size, with an on suite wash room with walk in shower. On first appearanc... Read more

This is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in,the food was out of this world and the staff Alison and Adele were so sociable and pleasant. Never had such great service and brilliant food. There were 4 of us and we all agreed, would definately go back again. The hotel is in easy walking distance to the town.

We were booked in the Lodge originally, but offered an upgrade on arrival to the Annexe, next to the hotel, for no more money so took it. Excellent room with 4 poster bed ( what's so special about them ? ). Room was fine but we quickly discovered that it looked out onto the busiest road in Whitby, all traffic to the bus station, train station, and main car park passed our window. Not good if you fancied an afternoon nap. Location was superb for the town centre, 5 mins from the bridge, shops etc.... Read more

The hotel is stunning and dates back to the 1500s! It also has a reputation for being haunted though I didn't personally experience anything during my stay. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the rooms are great. I stayed in the Family room in one of the annexes. It was spacious, relaxing and had everything I needed to make my stay enjoyable. I also had breakfast included in the price. I'm vegetarian but this wasn't an issue for the hotel- the kindly ensured I had veggie sausages! ... Read more

My husband, 3-year-old son, mother-in-law and I stayed here for (sadly) only one night; next time, we'll definitely stay longer. This place is so great...charming and comfortable with really accommodating, friendly staff, and in a great location. We stayed in room 18, which is a family suite, and it was perfect...nice big room, comfy beds, and a bathroom that's HUGE by most European standards. Even had a jetted tub! I loved all the skylights. We arrived a little later than we'd intended to, and ... Read more

Went here as our treat while on holiday, we were staying quite close so was ideal. The staff were excellent and service very good, the food was first class my starter of asparagus topped with poached egg was superb and my main of belly pork with black pudding was again superb. Wife started with melon not much to say really melon is melon her main course was chicken which she said was excellent. Will definitely revisit next time in whitby

What a lovely place to stay. It was a little complicated as to which part we were staying as there is the hotel and then 2 annex buildings. If you mobility problems and don't drive you definitely need to be in the main hotel. Breakfast was lovely and the staff were attentive. It was clean and I found the bed very comfortable. My husband kept nearly rolling out though not sure why. The hotel is really central and right next to the train station. I would definitely go again but I think I would pre... Read more

This is a really lovely hotel, very friendly and polite staff nothing too much trouble for them. We have stayed here before a few years ago and thought it good then but it has even got better, food is excellent, rooms very clean. Must be good as we have booked to go again in October. Thanks Bagdale Hall for a lovely weekend.

Stayed here for a couple of nights, service at breakfast is superb, location is good for access to the shops and sea front. Downside, rooms a bit dated (worn carpets, furniture etc.), basin cold tap in the bathroom not working, shower engrained with mould, dusty 4 poster bed. Plenty of tea, coffee etc. in the room, lots of clean towels and toiletries available and warm rooms. Bar closed when we got in at 10:00 p.m (so went to the pub instead). £140 per night a bit high but the staff are g... Read more

The staff are very friendly. The breakfast was plentiful and varied. There are a few different parts of this hotel. If booking online, be very aware that although it looks like you are booking the hotel, you may only get the lodge which happened to me. A phone call to the hotel direct sorted all of this out. I stayed in the annexe in room 11 on the ground floor. It faced out into the road. The road noise was a bit annoying but didn't wake me in the night. My four poster bed was very comfortable ... A beautiful hotel. We initially stayed in a room with noisy seagulls who congregated on a roof nearby. The room was also very warm as we were lucky enough to have good weather when we went. We initially had sleeping difficulties. When we explained this to the friendly staff they did there utmost to help us. First they gave us a fan which helped and they also got us some ear plugs. On Sunday night when most of the guests left we stayed for one more night. They upgraded us to the master bedroom ... Read more

I came here for a few days and was impressed with the quality of the room. The wifi was very weak were I was so could not be used at all but this hotel is located right next to the town centre so you can get to everything easily. There is free parking and the breakfast was fine especially the salmon and scrambled egg. I will come here again if I am working in the area.

We booked to stay at Bagdale as a last minute treat, the pictures looked great... On arrival we found out we weren't staying at Bagdale but at an annex building up the street. The room was on the top floor and was small with one small window that looked out on to the backstreets. In the corner of the room there was an obvious damp patch running up the wall. The bathroom was clean and modern. Back at Bagdale for drinks in the bar in the evening and the bar was well stocked and the service was fi... Read more

We found this place quite by accident on a day trip to Whitby. We didn't stay at the hotel so can't comment on the bedrooms, but this is a beautiful building built in 1516, and still has Tudor features with mullioned windows, low beamed ceilings, and enormous fireplaces. We were very pleasantly surprised to find when paying the bill a pot of freshly ground coffee and delicious Bronte biscuits was only £4 for the two of us. The Wednesday Special menu looked very interesting and we will be going... Read more

A lovely Suite in Bagdale Hall itself, I believe there are only six in the main hall, and the hotel is in an ideal location for visiting Whitby centre. I would have given it five out of five if the service at breakfast had been better, we had to ask twice for our coffee and a glass of water. The food however was good the room good however another problem was the tv was not tuned in so we could not even watch BBC1 without the picture breaking up and when you pay extra to stay in a suite you expec... Stayed 1 night last week as a last minute get away. Room was in an annex had a 4 poster bed paid £120 for the night. Room was disappointing grubby, dated and grimy in places. Window backed straight onto a car park so having the window open on the hottest day of the year was a problem. However the staff make this hotel, every single staff member we met were a delight the owners should be proud of them and with a little investment in the rooms this could be a little gem. We've just got back from a 2 night stay at Bagdale Hall. A superb location, literally minutes walk away from the main shops, bars and eateries Whitby has to offer. Bagdale itself is split over 3 sites, The main Bagdale Hall, The Lodge and Number 4 Bagdale, the restaurant is located in the main Bagdale Hall. We were in the Lodge which our room was quite small, but sufficient for what we wanted and above all spotlessly clean. I must admit if and when I'd visit again I would choose the main Hall. T... Just got back from an overnight stay at bagdale...we were up the road in the lodge...on entering the room it came across a little dated but clean and with a four poster bed, the bathroom was clean and the shower big enough for 2 and very powerful, there was water leaking out of the cubicle onto the bathroom floor so we mopped that up and went round to the main building for a drink, the staff were very friendly and offered advice on local restaurants, All in all was a pleasant stay.

The is a fabulous hotel. The main building, is full of great architectural features, you are in a very historic building. The rooms vary in style, one room we were booked into (in the lodge) was a modern 3* style hotel room away from the main building , good, but nothing special. We then had room 5 which was much better with a 4 poster bed. The final room we had was room 1, this was enormous, a large 4 poster bed, seating area, the room was approximately 10mtrs long and is up there with the ... Read more
