Bagdale has become our twice yearly weekend break. It never fails. The hotel is clean comfortable and furnished to a high quality. The staff are always friendly and helpful. If dining here you won't be disappointed. And if staying here you'll enjoy every minute. Looking forward to November and our return.

My wife and I stayed for one night, The main Hotel is a lovely old building with loads of character, I just wish I had paid the extra to sleep in there rather than the annex. Although all the staff were fantastic and they couldn't do more to help you, the hotel does not in my opinion offer good value for money. Our room was in the annex on the ground floor accessed via the rear hotel car park. The room was of a decent size, with an on suite wash room with walk in shower. On first appearanc... Read more

This is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in,the food was out of this world and the staff Alison and Adele were so sociable and pleasant. Never had such great service and brilliant food. There were 4 of us and we all agreed, would definately go back again. The hotel is in easy walking distance to the town.

We were booked in the Lodge originally, but offered an upgrade on arrival to the Annexe, next to the hotel, for no more money so took it. Excellent room with 4 poster bed ( what's so special about them ? ). Room was fine but we quickly discovered that it looked out onto the busiest road in Whitby, all traffic to the bus station, train station, and main car park passed our window. Not good if you fancied an afternoon nap. Location was superb for the town centre, 5 mins from the bridge, shops etc.... Read more

The hotel is stunning and dates back to the 1500s! It also has a reputation for being haunted though I didn't personally experience anything during my stay. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the rooms are great. I stayed in the Family room in one of the annexes. It was spacious, relaxing and had everything I needed to make my stay enjoyable. I also had breakfast included in the price. I'm vegetarian but this wasn't an issue for the hotel- the kindly ensured I had veggie sausages! ... Read more

My husband, 3-year-old son, mother-in-law and I stayed here for (sadly) only one night; next time, we'll definitely stay longer. This place is so great...charming and comfortable with really accommodating, friendly staff, and in a great location. We stayed in room 18, which is a family suite, and it was perfect...nice big room, comfy beds, and a bathroom that's HUGE by most European standards. Even had a jetted tub! I loved all the skylights. What a lovely place to stay. It was a little complicated as to which part we were staying as there is the hotel and then 2 annex buildings. If you mobility problems and don't drive you definitely need to be in the main hotel. Breakfast was lovely and the staff were attentive. It was clean and I found the bed very comfortable. Downside, rooms a bit dated (worn carpets, furniture etc.), basin cold tap in the bathroom not working, shower engrained with mould, dusty 4 poster bed. The staff are very friendly. The breakfast was plentiful and varied. There are a few different parts of this hotel. If booking online, be very aware that although it looks like you are booking the hotel, you may only get the lodge which happened to me. A phone call to the hotel direct sorted all of this out. I stayed in the annexe in room 11 on the ground floor. It faced out into the road. The road noise was a bit annoying but didn't wake me in the night. My four poster bed was very comfortable ... We initially had sleeping difficulties. When we explained this to the friendly staff they did there utmost to help us. First they gave us a fan which helped and they also got us some ear plugs. There is free parking and the breakfast was fine especially the salmon and scrambled egg. I will come here again if I am working in the area.

We booked to stay at Bagdale as a last minute treat, the pictures looked great... On arrival we found out we weren't staying at Bagdale but at an annex building up the street. The room was on the top floor and was small with one small window that looked out on to the backstreets. In the corner of the room there was an obvious damp patch running up the wall. We found this place quite by accident on a day trip to Whitby. We didn't stay at the hotel so can't comment on the bedrooms, but this is a beautiful building built in 1516, and still has Tudor features with mullioned windows, low beamed ceilings, and enormous fireplaces. We were very pleasantly surprised to find when paying the bill a pot of freshly ground coffee and delicious Bronte biscuits was only £4 for the two of us. At £140 per night for B&B I was expecting seriously good quality accommodation. The room was large, well furnished and spotlessly clean. Unfortunately it was a few yards from an extremely noisy and busy main road with constant traffic from early morning to late at night. It overlooked a small forecourt that had clearly not been swept in some time judging from the pieces of decomposing litter lying there. Frankly, it looked squalid. The breakfasts were average. This is quite an old building in the centre of Whitby, a seaside town that has, to be frank, seen better days. It is quite easy to find, but the car park is a bit more of a challenged. It is at the rear of the main building and can accommodate about eight of ten cars. I don't know if it is true of all the rooms, but we could not get to our room from the hotel reception.
