This is a cheap place to stay in a convenient location on the edge of the town centre. I found it cold, but was staying in cold weather. My room was clean, but rather dingy and one of the towels was dirty with what appeared to be blood. There was no toilet brush. There is a bar, but it is not open to non-residents and it was not somewhere I would have felt comfortable. Breakfast was generous and service was friendly.

Was charged twice for my stay! The owners knew I had paid through but then lied and said it was a reservation fee. They then charged me for the the night! I phoned to rectify the issue but they got in touch with the lord nelson who then denied that I paid them despite giving my a card receipt! Aside from that the place is dirty and stuck In The 70's!

I stayed here for a business trip as it was close by to where I needed to be. I Constantly felt uncomfortable as the staff were not polite or helpful. I arrived around 2pm and kept knocking on the door and no one would answer. As I arrived on public transport I was stuck outside with my suitcase for a while. The around 1530 someone answered and told me check ins not till 1600. The staff have no level of customer service skills and I travel to places a lot. This is appalling not. Rooms are cleani... The front door was shut when i arrived. tried to call the hotel to let them know i was outside but could not find a telephone number listed on my paperwork. Was let in by a member of staff after about ten minutes. Room was cleanish but the floor looked like it could do with a serious wash. they asked for the money upfront - which is ok. Breakfast was small but good. the front and back of the building needs serious repair work - holes in wall... needs a serious refit

I stayed here last night, it was a nice comfy hotel, lovely rooms, staff we're very nice (especially Tony), breakfast was really good, great location about 1 min walk from the train station. Or park in the hotel car park. Wifi to all guests, I would definitely recommend and I'll stay again if I'm in the area.

Stayed one night while at v festival. For less than £20 each I wasn't expecting much, but staff were lovely room was great, clean, spacious with ensuite, tv, kettle tea and coffee in room. And for an extra £5 each a lovely full English breakfast in the morning. Very happy. Would definitely return and recommend.

We arrived at this hotel within their check in hours and just couldn't get into the hotel. There are two doors, both were locked and nobody was answering. Eventually we gave up and booked a different hotel nearby. Despite this, the hotel has charged us the full cancellation fee, starting that they were too busy dealing with other guests to answer the door!! Apparently that is an acceptable excuse in their eyes. I can't comment on the hotel itself too much (we never got into it after all), b... Read more

I think that some of the previous reviews are being a little harsh on Lord Nelson here. I paid £40 per night for a room with a double bed for me and a single bed for my son. What he got was a proper single bed, not an uncomfortable sofa bed type affair, with no real mattress and very comfortable he was too. We had two very peaceful and comfortable nights here. It's an old building so expect some creaking floorboards, personally, I love them. The Hotel does have a free private car park to the re... Read more
