Lovely rustic hotel in nice small village. We visited as a family (2 adults + 1 3yo child) for our 1st anniversary weekend. Room was great, large double bed and seperate single for my boy. Room was very adequate size with decent bathroom. We chose to have a dinner in theit restaurant, food was nice and reasonable portions. Service was great with staff friendly and helpful. Check out was midday which was useful. Would stay again if in the area.

We popped into this pub after a day at the races and were surprised at how friendly the staff were and how amazing the food was. The staff explained the menu and specials the 6 of us sat down for a much needed drink and some food. The drinks flowed extremely well and the food from starters to desserts were faultless. The beer was extremely good. The pub is very spacious and has plenty of room to accommodate everyone. The pub has rooms and we would probably stay here if we visited again. A+++++... Read more

This is an old country inn, with up-to-date hotel facilities - flat screen TV, WiFi, trouser press (concealed out-of-the-way in the wardrobe), great shower and parking, right in the middle of Clare, Suffolk. There is plenty to see in this small town and it is within easy driving distance of Bury St Edmunds, Cambridge and Ipswich. Popular with locals for its traditional beer and food, its separate games room (with televised sports) means customers of all ages are catered for. Hearty breakfasts... Read more

Popped in on the off chance as we were hungry and passing by. My son said it was the best meal he had ever had! Lunch menu varied and tasty, good size portions and extremely friendly and helpful staff. Toilets clean and well maintained. Would definitely visit again if we are in the area.

I stayed at the bell for a few days over the weekend. I had a brilliant time. The staff were very friendly and polite couldn't do enough to help you. My room was very spacious and really comfortable. Enjoyed the delicious food and drinking in the sunshine in the garden. Keep up the good work guys I can't wait to come and stay again. Also loving the new juke box got all my fave cheesey music on there :-)

Good base for a weekend exploring the area; room was quite small but if you want to stay in then the pub is very inviting so that's not a major problem. Slept well - although above the bar and next to the road didn't notice noise from either (although church bells eventually woke us up). Shower was amazing, breakfast was good too. We couldn't get the wifi to work on either of our devices but there's solid 4G signal unlike a lot of the nearby countryside. Staff were extremely friendly, nothing se... Read more

Decided to revisit The Bell for our Ruby Wedding as we first stayed there for our honeymoon back in 1976! It was so nice to see that everything was much the same as we remembered. All the current staff are very friendly and accommodating. The food is highly recommended. The room we stayed in was clean and spacious but would definitely benefit from a new mattress as ours was well worn and uncomfortable. As there were night workers occupying the rooms above us who proved to be noisy when they ret... Read more

Returning to The Bell Hotel after 40 years on our Ruby Wedding Anniversary, we were pleased to say that the charm of the building and surroundings in Clare have remained the same. The people may have changed and the rooms updated with Wi-Fi etc. but the care and attention from the staff was second to none. The food in the restaurant was of an excellent standard with generous portions. Thank you for a wonderful overnight stay.

We stayed for 1 night God our wedding anniversary and this was mentioned when booking room but nothing special was done not even a candle on the table. We booked our table for 7.30 and the restaurant was very quiet as we were seated we could not help but over hear another customer complaining about their party's meal and and clearly stated they were not happy and would not be returning. We had starters, my husband had chicken goujons which were over cooked and dry, I had pate which was fine. We ... Read more

We called into The Bell for a couple of drinks in the early evening and found it depressing. My glass was sticky and the bar area smelt of stale beer. When we sat at a table it was sticky too, cups, plates and glasses were still on the tables around us and remained there for the half an hour we stayed. It wasn't busy in the bar, perhaps half a dozen people and we saw three bar staff. I wish I could think that this was a one off experience but it has been like this several times. There are wires... Stayed overnight with friends on a Saturday night as there was an event on the Sunday at Kentwell Hall. My wife and i do not stay at pub accommodation but our friends booked this as it was the cheapest and only b and b available in the area. Our room was on the first level opposite the outside seating area for the bar. We had an evening meal and to be fair it was pub food but satisfactory and was served pretty quick. Staff were friendly. We retired to our room about 10-20 pm and because of t... Read more

We chose the Bell hotel Clare as somewhere that would take our extended family which included both children & dogs. Room was good, we stayed in no.1, which was very roomy. Bar snacks were simple but good, as was breakfast. Staff very friendly & helpful. Would happily return.

This rather appealing village in Suffolk provided one nights accommodation for me on a Friday evening at the period built Bell Hotel. Walking into the pub was a little alarming as the locals momentarily paused to check me out as I entered. The Essex lilt predominated with a pleasant banter mainly around sport and politics. Reception was friendly and showed me to my room with a fair amount of innocuous fluffy chat. It was on the ground floor in the old stable area of what appears to be a one ti... Read more

We stayed at The Bell for one night recently and were pleasantly surprised to be shown to a comfortable room with good bed and large bathroom. We had no complaints until we were abruptly woken at 2am by the arrival of guests in the room above us. (We were in room 15.) They had obviously had a good night out but weren't unduly noisy. However the floorboards creaked really loudly with every step, you could hear almost every word they said, doors opening and closing, shoes being chucked to the ... Read more

My partner and I have eaten a couple of times here and have to say the food is realy good. Decent portions of everything, the Sunday roast is worth every penny, as is the bell special burger, served with chips, salad and onion rings, an enormous meal. My partner had ti minted lamb with bubble & squeak. We have just booked the function room for my partners 60th birthday. Excellent value for money Pete Little Yeldham

I stayed here for one night. I entered the hotel quite late via the bar. There were a few locals in who seemed somewhat surprised to see a stranger enter! The barman sorted me out by taking me to my room which was across the courtyard where I had parked my car. The room was in an annex and was spacious enough. It was very tired and needs a complete redecoration. I could see that the furniture was all matching and quite nice but it was the decor and homeliness of the room that needs sorting out.... Currently staying in The Bell for work purposes. It's a very friendly place with great rooms, great food, great beer and great staff....so much that I'm rebooking for various stays over the coming months. Well done to The Bell and all the staff. Can't recommend this place enough.

Stopped here for work, loved it! Turned business into pleasure, and made a 78 hour working week seem like a holiday! Very well looked after. Good clean large rooms with comfortable beds! The breakfast is good and plentiful. The owner is very friendly and very helpful, and the bar girls are awesome! (And man!) I will 100% book The Bell again!
