I went for a dinner with my husband and found that the interior had had a makeover. It looks all nice and fresh and still retains the atmosphere of a country house. It is nice to have aperitifs in a separate room from the dining room, and it also has lovely views of the beautiful gardens. Dinner was excellent and service was good. They have a reasonable wine list - not too expensive and with enough choice. It was nice and quiet, which we prefer. It can get busy on Saturdays when there is a... Read more

Stayed here for two nights last week and really enjoyed out stay. The gardens are so nice and peaceful. The staff were all very professional and friendly. Dinner and breakfast was excellent definitely no complaints. We stayed in a classic room which was very nice only tiny complaint would have to be the size of the television (i'm nit picking here) I would have expected a decent size TV for the cost of the rooms. We would stay here again and again if get the chance.

Owned by the same family for so many years this elegant hotel is a pleasure to stay at. not only is the hotel an elegant experience for those who love traditional hotels, but the grounds are beautiful and storybook. A very comfortable country hotel, nicely located on the outskirts of St. Andrews set amidst a rambling country garden with a stream running through it. The hotel is well appointed with friendly staff. Unfortunately my main meal the night we stayed, a Sirloin steak? Well it was the strangest sirloin I've seen; about 6mm thick at best, triangular in shape and although it was cooked medium rare as requested; it was totally tasteless. I returned the plate of food about which the waitress said, we wo... Read more

Stayed two nights last week for our minimoon. Beautiful surroundings and gardens and the food was very nice, but we were really disappointed otherwise. The bed in our room was tiny, my other half's feet totally stuck out at the end of the bed and he is 6'1" so dear help anyone taller staying in that room! It was also ridiculously hot, even with the air conditioning machine on and the windows open. We seemed to be above the kitchen as there was a lot of noise from fans all day and woke very early... Area of venue is beautiful, gardens are lovely, food and wine is delicious but I felt the majority of the decor didn't cooridnate. Some was old fashioned, very dated carpets for example, then the restaurant was modern and quite basic. Despite the staff being polite, there wasn't the warmest or most welcoming of atmospheres. It all felt a bit basic. I definitely expected more from the hotel as a whole and wouldn't personally recommend it to my friends or family. Have to say we did love the Molten... Read more

Nice room, very modern & minimalist with a smart bathroom walk-in shower, fluffy towels, robes & Molton Brown toiletries, It had a wonderful bath which unfortunately was too high for us "oldies" to clamber in and out! The only point I would raise with the hotel, is that there was NEVER any staff in the bar. Each time we wanted to have a drink in the bar during our stay, I had to go and look for someone to serve me. More choice of fresh fruit at breakfast would have been good, especially the local strawberries, which were in season during our stay. Other than that, our stay was fabulous.

We were staying overnight heading north. We got a good welcome from friendly and helpful staff. The hotel is pretty well maintained and well furnished - lovely garden. Our room was very nice - modern decor and all the extra touches you would expect, however, the room was small for the tariff. We ate at rufflets restaurant at night ,the food was excellent ,we had a 3 course dinner and each dish was well cooked and presented ,the service was as expected excellent. We ended our stay with breakfast ,there was plenty of choice from the menu and there was also a cold buffet for those who didn't want an... Read more

We have just celebrated our wedding at Rufflets Hotel in St Andrews on 17th September 2016 and it couldn't have gone any better! The staff were outstanding! In particular Rachel and Sarah! They couldn't have done enough for us and we couldn't have had a better day because of their support. They were there for us and so welcoming from the first meeting we had to the second we left. The girls thought of things I would never have even considered. The food beautiful. The service superb. They accommo... Read more

I have nothing but praise for this fabulous hotel. The staff were friendly helpful and attentive. We were upgraded to a lovely room which was quiet and so comfortable. The bed was enormous. We ate in the restaurant the night we stayed and couldn't fault the food at all. Very pleasant staff in restaurant and bar. I would happily stay again if in the area.

Absolutely stunning gardens and our bedroom and bathroom were lovely. However, the service in the dining room was terribly slow at dinner the first evening but it was rather full that night. Breakfast the next morning was ultra slow and we waited 40 minutes before someone took our order for a cooked breakfast. Not the best. Dinner on the second evening was a little quicker and the food was very good. Breakfast the next morning was definitely much quicker but there was a lot more staff working. ... Read more

The country manor was gorgeous! The entire property was beautiful, and the rooms were first-rate. We enjoyed the bar area, and had a great breakfast and an exceptional dinner in the hotel restaurant. Our only problem was it was difficult to find on day one. We came in from the north, and had a bit of difficulty with the directions. The staff at this property was exceptional.

I was given a gift from dear friends for sparkling afternoon tea here...I was not disappointed. The selection of goodies offered a lovely variety of sandwiches, however we are very fussy, this was no problem as the waitress, lovely happy waitress wearing a pale pink top, came and offered us a different choice. A beautiful setting, very peaceful and delicious afternoon tea. My only comment is that it was a bit awkward as there was no background music and we were whispering so the other tables did... Booked in for a sneaky autumn overnight with my husband. We stayed in one of the turret room's, it was stunning. The room had its own sitting area a small terrace and a enormous comfortable bed. Nothing has been overlooked from toiletries, nail file, water , tea/ coffee facilitates home made shortbread and even a pair of binoculars to look for wildlife in the beautiful gardens. The service is impeccable without being intrusive and the food is freshly made to a extremely high standard. Everyone w... Read more

My wife and I spent two nights at the hotel last month and found it to be a most enjoyable experience. Although it is located a mile or so outside St Andrews the Lade Braes walk [45 minutes] along the riverside into St Andrews is lovely. In winter, however, it could be considerably less so. My review may be slightly influenced by the fact that we pushed the boat out and paid £60 per night extra for a suite. We were given room 5 which had a lovely sitting area by the window overlooking the ext... Read more

We stumbled across Rufflets when looking to take my mum somewhere special for her 85th birthday. Although we are fairly local, it was not somewhere we had known about before but somewhere we will definitely be returning to. A beautiful hotel, set in gorgeous grounds, with friendly, warm, attentive staff made for a special day. The staff made a lovely fuss of my mum and on finding out it was her birthday even produced a card wishing her birthday wishes! The food was beautiful - both in presenta... Read more

We have not stayed at the hotel but have enjoyed lunch here on a couple of occasions. A family run hotel for over 60 years everything about the public areas speaks quality and comfort. The dining room is spacious so you are not sitting close to your neighbour. Some tables are large and circular which can be a problem holding a conversation between four people. The food is freshly prepared locally sourced and we'll cooked. Many of the staff are young but well trained, courteous and efficient.

We held our wedding reception here. My husband and I, along with quite a few guests, stayed for a couple of nights. Our guests raved about the comfortable rooms, fine dining and excellent staff. Quite a few people mentioned that our wedding dinner was the best large group meal they had ever had, and that the service was top notch. They made me feel truly special.

Only had a one night stay, (now wish we had booked for 2 nights)!. Beautiful hotel, and the classic bedroom was a lot larger than some upgrades we've had in other country hotels. Staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Evening dinner was just lovely and the breakfast was cooked to order assuring freshness and personal preference. All in all, a fabulous hotel and looking forward to returning.

Started with an afternoon champagne tea, very nice. Then off to our Turret room for an overnight stay. Spacious room with a raised floor in the turret offering two comfortable armchairs to enjoy the views over the garden and grounds. Nice touch a set of binoculars supplied to view the varied bird life. The spacious bathroom with modern fittings including stand alone shower and bath were ideal. Great time there as usual been there 4 or 5 times previously .lovely room great food and wine and lovely gardens to walk of said food and wine. One query had the smoked mackerel scotch egg for a starter which was lovely but for presentations sake only half the egg was served , what do they do with the other half . I would suggest quails egg or using the whole egg served differently.

We visited here today for lunch. On arrival you were greeted at the reception and were offered drinks in the lounge or at our table. It was an excellent menu and very reasonably priced. Service was friendly and efficient and the could not be faulted. Would also be a great hotel for a weekend break. If you are ever in the StAndrews area a visit to the Rufflets is a must. We will definitely be back

Spent a couple of enjoyable hours here with my girlfriend Gill (from Dundee). Gill had a "canon" of beef and I had the fish pie followed by the panacotta all well first class, Gill had even mentioned she thought the panacotta was better than any she had tasted in Italy(and she has been from Turin in the North to Rome in the south) Also had a nice coffee and shortbread next to fire The staff were fantastic.

We love this hotel! Both times we??ve stayed we??ve enjoyed it very much indeed, and will be back. On this occasion we were celebrating our Ruby Wedding Anniversary, which I had mentioned when booking using an itison voucher, as I asked to upgrade to a room overlooking the garden for this occasion, at an additional charge of £30 from the basic room price. The gardens are stunning, and it is definitely something you want to see first thing in the morning. When we arrived to check-in however... Read more

I booked an afternoon tea for two people at the Rufflets Hotel using a Gift Card that I received for my birthday. The hotel is very quaint inside and decorated lovely. We were seated in the tea room and were the first people to arrive for afternoon tea (3pm) so took the opportunity to sit at the window seats. We were given the menu by a very welcoming waiter and were given many options for different teas (refills throughout) and asked if we wanted plain or fruit scones (for other afternoon teas ... Amazing place. Welcoming staff. Fantastic service. Delicious food. Wonderful grounds. Brilliant hotel. Comfortable lodge. Good location. Perhaps update the windows in the main lodge to double glazing - firstly it didn't feel secure at all - couldn't just half-crack it and go out and about. Also overnight it turned in to a waterfall soaking watches, wallets, glasses etc that were placed on the windowsill out of reach of 15 month old with wandering hands. Apart from that - just a great place t... Read more

Although I have lived near St Andrews Scotland since birth I have never had a meal in Rufflets hotel. How I have missed out!! By chance I bought 2 itison vouchers for myself, partner, sister and brother in law. We were made very welcome on arrival and in spite of our itison coupons we were not made to feel inferior.
