I went for a dinner with my husband and found that the interior had had a makeover. It looks all nice and fresh and still retains the atmosphere of a country house. It is nice to have aperitifs in a separate room from the dining room, and it also has lovely views of the beautiful gardens. Dinner was excellent and service was good. They have a reasonable wine list - not too expensive and with enough choice. It was nice and quiet, which we prefer. It can get busy on Saturdays when there is a... Read more

Stayed here for two nights last week and really enjoyed out stay. The gardens are so nice and peaceful. The staff were all very professional and friendly. Dinner and breakfast was excellent definitely no complaints. We stayed in a classic room which was very nice only tiny complaint would have to be the size of the television (i'm nit picking here) I would have expected a decent size TV for the cost of the rooms. We would stay here again and again if get the chance.

For a starter 10/10 to Rufflets for giving guests the option of taking our four legged friend along For a dog friendly hotel it's the best of the bunch we have tried so far, The staff are warm and friendly that goes with the character of this county house on the outskirts of St Andrews The menu and the wine list are excellent, the breakfast a real treat We had booked a lodge / suite for two nights, The rooms were decent, but if they want to charge city prices then this is where they nee... Arrived to a very warm welcome at the desk, shown personally by staff to our room, which was very well appointed, clean and comfortable, enjoyed a lovely touch of homemade shortbreads in our room for our tea/coffee. Beautifully ground with a mini putting green which kept us amused. Ground are outstanding and you can have a walk there or just sit and relax on the terrace with a drink. Dinner wasan excellent experience, and the staff were good, no rushing you, Breakfast was plentiful with a larg... Read more

A wonderful hotel that is a St Andrew's tradition. Owned by the same family for so many years this elegant hotel is a pleasure to stay at. not only is the hotel an elegant experience for those who love traditional hotels, but the grounds are beautiful and storybook. The staff is such a personable team that enhances this fine dining experience even through the well apportioned breakfast. We stayed in one of the tower rooms and I highly recommend that since the views of the garden areas are except... Read more

A very comfortable country hotel, nicely located on the outskirts of St. Andrews set amidst a rambling country garden with a stream running through it. The hotel is well appointed with friendly staff. Unfortunately my main meal the night we stayed, a Sirloin steak? Well it was the strangest sirloin I've seen; about 6mm thick at best, triangular in shape and although it was cooked medium rare as requested; it was totally tasteless. I returned the plate of food about which the waitress said, we wo... Read more

Stayed two nights last week for our minimoon. Beautiful surroundings and gardens and the food was very nice, but we were really disappointed otherwise. The bed in our room was tiny, my other half's feet totally stuck out at the end of the bed and he is 6'1" so dear help anyone taller staying in that room! It was also ridiculously hot, even with the air conditioning machine on and the windows open. We seemed to be above the kitchen as there was a lot of noise from fans all day and woke very early... Area of venue is beautiful, gardens are lovely, food and wine is delicious but I felt the majority of the decor didn't cooridnate. Some was old fashioned, very dated carpets for example, then the restaurant was modern and quite basic. Despite the staff being polite, there wasn't the warmest or most welcoming of atmospheres. It all felt a bit basic. I definitely expected more from the hotel as a whole and wouldn't personally recommend it to my friends or family. Have to say we did love the Molten... Read more

The hotel and amenities were top top, the room was excellent and clean. Very nice place to stay and food was good. My golf buddies and I stayed here during a golf trip. I noticed that most other guest were couples and this place might be better suited for this purpose. I found that the staff acted arrogant towards our group maybe because we as Americans are typically more casual in the dining room showing up in jeans and golf shirts were the other guest were dressed in shirt and ties. We stayed two nights as part of an offer for £175 pp for d/b/b in one of the "classical rooms". It would normally be £275 and we were up two flights of stairs to our room in the eaves overlooking the side garden. Nice room, very modern & minimalist with a smart bathroom walk-in shower, fluffy towels, robes & Molton Brown toiletries, It had a wonderful bath which unfortunately was too high for us "oldies" to clamber in and out! The bedside lights were too small to give much light and the main l... Read more

The only point I would raise with the hotel, is that there was NEVER any staff in the bar. Each time we wanted to have a drink in the bar during our stay, I had to go and look for someone to serve me. More choice of fresh fruit at breakfast would have been good, especially the local strawberries, which were in season during our stay. Other than that, our stay was fabulous.

We were staying overnight heading north. We got a good welcome from friendly and helpful staff. The hotel is pretty well maintained and well furnished - lovely garden. Our room was very nice - modern decor and all the extra touches you would expect, however, the room was small for the tariff. What struck us was the lack of an owner or general manager around the hotel making sure everything was running well. We only stayed for breakfast and again expected much better - there were no tablecloths, ... Read more

We were there for afternoon tea and a look around with a view to it being a wedding venue. The afternoon tea was plentiful and delicious with our specific dietary requirements well catered for. The service was excellent without being oppressive. Any food we could not manage to eat was boxed to allow us to Akers it home. Excellent value for money.

Excellent place to stay. Victorian Hotel with neoclassical furnishings in our room. While my husband spent the morning golfing, I spent it roaming around and sketching the grounds. Management was excellent and made sure I was comfortable at all times. Short drive or cab ride into town. Breakfast was excellent and accommodated my Gluten free diet. Staff was always available to meet our needs. Bar tender was great.

We booked the private dining room for a dinner for 26 when our son graduated from St. Andrews. The evening went off without a hitch. The Functions department was very attentive to my emails from the United States two months prior to the event, the dinner was delicious, beautifully and promptly served, and all our needs were met. After dinner we all wandered into the gorgeous gardens right outside. A lovely venue for our event.

We enjoyed a lovely afternoon at the Rufflets, having afternoon tea in the drawing room, overlooking the magnificent rose garden! The tea was exquisite, and especially the salmon sandwich, the scones and the little lemon meringue pastry! Before leaving, we went for a stroll in the beautiful park/garden, so delightful with all different plants and trees!

we went to this hotel because a close friend was getting married and she had arranged for the reception at rufflets. as we were coming from quite a distance, london, we decided to go up a few days ahead and leave a few days after the reception, the idea being to have a mini holiday. we flew from gatwick (big mistake, if you go to edinburgh, take the train) to edinburgh and took a taxi to st andrews. the taxi was the nicest part of the trip. on arrival, the hotel seemed quite nice, room was good,... This is a review of the Terrace restaurant at Rufflets. We were here with friends for lunch in May. We were a bit early for our reservation and enjoyed a stroll round the beautiful gardens ?? nice setting for the old manor-style house which was a private house until the 1950??s. We started with drinks in the lounge and then moved into the dining room. Service was excellent with a good choice of drinks including Belhaven Best on draft and Irn Bru for our designated driver. Hotel: it is a very pretty looking building and the gardens are lovely. Dogs are not allowed in the main hotel at all but there are a few lodges (garden rooms) that are separate to the main hotel, where dogs are allowed to stay and these rooms are ideal for dogs nipping out for the call of nature! Welcome: we were greeted at reception and told where to drive our car to park for our room. Our doggy received a welcome pack with some little treats and poo bags and a list of what not to do! Ou... Rufflets Hotel is a decent enough hotel but severely overpriced. We stayed for 1 night in a Classic Double room, the summer season price for this is £320. The room we stayed in appeared to have been recently refurbished. Some older furniture remained but on the whole was ok. The bathroom certainly had been replaced and whilst not immaculate was good, particularly the roll top bath. The carpets in the hallway were certainly dated and required replacing. I don't have much to say to either criti... Read more

Beautiful quiet and quaint picturesque setting outside St Andrews. Had two children with us and enjoyed room 8 with a separate room with single beds for each child. Large beautiful bathroom connects the two bedrooms. Very clean. Friendly staff. Lovely continental breakfast with fresh local fruits and a variety of cereals, granolas, etc. Wished we had more time in St Andrews to enjoy this place.

The hotel is surrounded by a beautiful garden with plenty of flowers, where you can stay and have a coffee or just walk around. Also our two rooms, which were located in a separate building just a few metres away, were very nice: plenty of space, good bed, bathroom with shower and tub. The service however wasn't satisfactory, especially on our last day: We booked an afternoon tea in advance. When we arrived in the lounge, firstly we waited to be asked our orders quite long.
