This hotel is situated off of the 18th fairway of the Old Course. It is very golfer friendly. Each room is named after a historic St Andrews golfer. Only reason it does not get 5 stars is that even in May the hotel room was entirely too hot. I am aware that air conditioning is not the norm over here but it was almost unbearable and could not sleep very well until it cooled off, which was well past 23:00.

It tries, it really does but it doesn't doesn't quite reach the standard I'd expect of hotel with its reputation and location. The reception staff were welcoming and helpful, more so than most hotels. The rooms are clean and well presented, but the Nespresso machine lurks at the back of the wardrobe, with just three different capsules, fine if you're on your own but not if you're a couple. I know, I could have asked for more, but in a quality hotel I shouldn't have to. My biggest gripe is brea... Read more

The macdonald rusacks hotel has a perfect location situated overlooking the 18 th green of the old course St Andrews. It's in the city centre within walking distance of everywhere in the city. We went up for a two day trip to St. Andrews and we could not have picked a better hotel. The location was absolutely perfect. Right next to the golf course with view over the course, the beach and the sea. Just on top of the Eden Mill shop, where we were offered a free gin tasting. And directly in the centre of St Andrews. All the staff were super friendly and helpful. The room we had was lovely and spacious. The lamb in the restaurant was to die for and the breakfast, overlooking the sea was j... Read more

We stayed in a suite facing the Old Course. Very beautiful view. Can see the ocean as well from our room. The bathroom was labelled as "Loo With A View", the tub is facing the golf course. Had a beautiful view of sunset & sunrise. Breakfast was great although not elaborate choices. Good exercise walking uphill to downtown St Andrews, will take about 10-15 minutes. Lot of golf souvenir shops around.

I love staying here. We chose a room on the ground floor so that we can freely go in and out with our dog. The hotel is in a great position in St Andrews just next to the Old Course. Breakfast was very nice -on mentioning that we had never had a window seat before the young man kindly set one up for us and after a five minute wait in the lounge we were shown to our table. The Porridge was perfect and just the right amount. The Veggie Breakfast was nice but Quorn Sausages, for me, would be p... Read more

Just returned from an overnight stay at the Rusacks and as every reviewers notes, the location is fantastic! Enjoyed our stay but was disappointed in the difference in quality of the 2 rooms we had booked for the same price. The hotel was very close to the bus stop on the street. The hotel was very nice and greeted us well. The rooms were clean and warm. The on site restaurant had delicious food and dessert. I got a great deal thru booking with Expedia because this hotel is near the golf course and normally is expensive. They had flavored water and fruit in the waiting area. This is a walking town so the City Centre was not far away.

We spent a few days here early June. Hoping to get a game at the the Old Course but no such luck. Good hotel overall. Especially enjoyed the views and hospitality and lovely staff in the bar upstairs. ( we were there most days!) But the room was pretty disappointing really. This hotel is beautiful, clean and has real charm. The location is great because although it's right in St. Andrew's it's on the edge, so it has incredible views of the green and the ocean. Price-wise, it's very accessible. They could have taken it up a notch and made it a 5-star expensive hotel, instead, it's a bit more affordable for anyone to stay (depending on the time of year and if there's an open!). Our room was very clean and cozy... we'd definitely stay again.

Great location with unobstructed views of The Old Course and The Royal and Ancient. Wonderful bars close to hotel. First rate included breakfast with great salmon and everything you'd ever want. The bar and restaurant are also very good. Only improvement would be the downstairs rooms are in need of airing out as they smell a bit damp.

The Rusacks is ideally located on the 18th hole of the Old Course making it a great spot for watching and getting to golf and around town. The staff was very accommodating and helpful. The breakfast were first rate. We had two rooms and had booked doubles unfortunately one was a king. Of the two rooms one was quite small the other was quite roomy. Despite temps in the 60s F at night we couldn't get either of the rooms to cool down at night even with the windows open.

The Hotel is immaculate and staff were very helpful and friendly at all times. Only downside was the attic room accommodation. The shower and radiator in the bedroom wasn't working as it should and there is an approximate 3-4 inch cross fall over the narrow width of the bathroom floor. Otherwise, we had a relaxing and enjoyable weekend break.

This hotel is in a marvelous location and has comfortable public rooms, but our hotel rooms were very small and cramped. We were not given a King bed as requested, and the rooms had only showers, not baths, in contrast to the booking confirmation description that we received. Our rooms were not in the main part of the hotel, but in the bottom of a lower quality annex, directly abutting the parking lot and generator for a restaurant. For the price, this was unexpected and disappointing.

Excellent location but rooms are too small. Pub is excellent and dinner was great as was breakfast. Service was very average at counter but all employees were courteous. I think it is important to remember that most hotel guests are golfers and the hotel should reflect such in the service.

My wife booked Rusacks Hotel to celebrate my 60th birthday. On checking in we were shown to the Stephen Gallacher suite , a three room unit overlooking the 18th hole at St Andrews. Bedroom with ensuite very comfortable , living room was excellent with views over the Old Course and the kitchen very practical. We were able to walk the Old Course on Sunday afternoon and get the obligatory photo taken on the Swilken Bridge. Afterwards we had an enjoyable meal at the Rocca Restaurant. Overall a very ... We really enjoyed our time here, the rooms were a little outdated, but the hotel was charming itself. Very convenient if your playing any of the golf course or just want to walk around town. The service in the pub, bar and restaurant was slow, but the food and drinks where good. There is limited parking in the back of the hotel, and if you happen to get one of the double spots you might be blocked in until someone moves their car.

What a spectacular location! This hotel is located across the street from the Old Course at St. Andrews (the birthplace of golf). and altough it is quaint and comfortable it needs The Four Seasons to step in and take over. Macdonald Hotels is just clipping coupons for being next to the home of golf. This should be the site of a truly great hotel. The rooms are substandard and the staff try very hard but just don't have enough to work with. When I win the lotto, I will buy this hotel and make it ... Read more

The value of this hotel was disappointingly terrible. We have experienced better service from cheap motels. The location is obviously perfect, and the hotel environment was nice, but I will never stay here again because of the dining service received and our overall experience.

Stay at this hotels for 2 nights at room 118 (hell bunker), room was excellent because we have the view of 18th green of the Old course. I also love the interior of the hotel lobby and other rooms because it's all golf related, such as huge picture of Arnold Palmer in the lobby, and there is a special room having a nice decoration about golf legends. Location is excellent, within 10-20 walk to city centre, and nice pub, restaurants supermarket. Also, going to beach is 5-10 min walk cross 18th... Read more

A 5* hotel in a wonderful position overlooking the 18th Fairway of the Old Course. Pity about the service and the quality of the hotel interior. Breakfast on the Sunday was little short of a laugh - no juices, no glasses to have the juice if there was any. Dining room was grossly understaffed. In the bedrooms they had run out of soap and asked guests to use shower gel. The furniture was badly in need of replacement. The majority of the guests came from Japan and the USA - I hate to think of the ... Read more

Great location, room was spacious with good view, dinner good but breakfast poor. It was understaffed and more training required to provide a better service. Staff needed direction from senior personnel and did not seem to be able to use their initiative with attention to detail at guests tables.

Our room was uncomfortably hot. Room 220. No breeze and not even a fan provided any real relief. Others in our group had a similar experience. You need to come up with a better solution for rooms similarly situated in the hotel.

Stayed in the Rusacks recently for the weekend for my birthday. If you play golf the hotel is iconic; where else can you sit and have breakfast overlooking one of the most famous golf courses in the world. Rooms are OK, nothing out of the ordinary by today‚??s standards. What did disappoint was the inconsistency of the service. On the Friday evening we ate in the ‚??One Under gastro Pub‚??. I‚??m sorry but simply putting the food on slates and boards does not make it ‚??gastro‚??. You expe... Read more

Understanding that Rusacks is likely going to be renovated/expanded our stay was just a few points shy of outstanding. Primarily the rooms need more ventilation and the decor is tired, lift was slow and delayed our checkout.

We stayed at the Rusacks for a week, this is the second time we have stayed at this hotel. Our room had a smell when we arrived that got worse every day. The bathroom ceiling was covered by mildew and mold. We also noticed the water glasses in the room were filthy....my wife walked in on the maid and found her wiping out the glasses with a rag and the rag must of been dirty because the glasses were dirty. When the smell got so bad after a few days we called and I also went to the front desk t... Read more

The first room which we were offered faced onto the street at ground level. We approached Reception as this was not suitable for us. We were given an alternative which suited our needs perfectly and we had a very pleasant stay. The first room was quite cramped and the bed was very small , no bath; I thought that this was quite expensive for what was on offer. the alternative room was very acceptable!

The Rocco bar in Rusack's Hotel, our venue for today's afternoon tea outing, is fairly large but unduly packed with tables. The views and the comfortable seating does compensate for this though. We were left to find a vacant table by ourselves!!! Our food was very good, composed of dainty sandwiches well made with a variety of fillings, warm scones, and several really nice cakes. On a slight down side there was no butter, the cream was out of a pressure can, and the small individual jams were a... Read more

I took my Mother here for her birthday lunch and after a very slow start we placed our order. I ordered the only vegetarian option on the menu and after a hefty wait our food arrived. Parents got what they ordered while my vegetarian pasta was smothered in bacon!! The waitress said she didn't know why the chef had done that but she'd replace it. So my parents ate their lunch and once they'd finished my lunch arrived and I ate it alone. What a disappointing lunch :(

Went there for lunch yesterday, or tied to. Steps everywhere and no sign of disabled access, front or rear. Not good enough When I contacted the company for and explanation I received an acknowledgement which said they would be in touch. They weren't. Contacted them again and they advised it would be better if I told them I was coming. Vert poor and slipshod approach

We were let down last minute by a third party booking agency, and the hotel were truly fantastic in caring about us and helping us out when they didn't have to, proving they see their guests as people, not just a money making operation. Everything was as good on this, our second stay, as it was on the first, even though the hotel was full and busy. First off, I'm sure (hope) that this hotel has better reviews. This was the last room available in all of St. Andrews. It was HORRIBLY expensive. Maybe just because of its location. But, the room was on the highest floor and didn't have a lift to that floor. So, up one flight with no lift. I know... Whaaa, but with the price, I'd expect more. Then when I went to the room, there were 3 hotel employees feverishly trying to clean the room. Specifically spraying disinfectant on the floor by the door... Read more

Top floor Executive suite( lift out of order).....very small and was quite dated, could do with a freshen up, en-suite was very small and took in the Combe of the ceiling, screws missing at bath panel and the door was chipped and blown, all in all we were only one night it was clean, and the view was amazing if you're a golfer(what you're paying for). The breakfast was excellent and staff were very nice

Like many hotels, there is good and bad about the Rusacks. If you play golf and St. Andrews is your mecca (like it is for me), then staying at the Rusacks is part of the deal and it is a GREAT part. If you can afford the splurge to have a room with a view (we could not), you can look out on the 1st and 18th every day and marvel at one of the greatest golf courses ever. If your room looks at the piping on the other side of the hotel (as ours did), you will have to settle for the views from the ... Read more

Despite the location....and one certainly overpays for that, this hotel is a sure skip. We booked months in advance and arrived to find rooms were not ready, and our expensive suite was a single windowed room overlooking a wall and roof. Windows open 2 or 3 inches and it was HOT. We were moved to a 4th floor room we found out later was supposed to be a single. Such a stunning hotel. I was at university here and hadn't visited for over 10 years. I could've never afforded to stay here when I was a student, but fancied a treat and wasn't disappointed. The rooms were gorgeous, all mod-cons and more! Breakfast was also delicious and plentiful and we had a free afternoon tea and drink at the bar as part of the deal. The location is stunning - next to the old course and the beach. It's well worth it.
