This hotel is situated off of the 18th fairway of the Old Course. It is very golfer friendly. Each room is named after a historic St Andrews golfer. Only reason it does not get 5 stars is that even in May the hotel room was entirely too hot. I am aware that air conditioning is not the norm over here but it was almost unbearable and could not sleep very well until it cooled off, which was well past 23:00.

It tries, it really does but it doesn't doesn't quite reach the standard I'd expect of hotel with its reputation and location. The reception staff were welcoming and helpful, more so than most hotels. The rooms are clean and well presented, but the Nespresso machine lurks at the back of the wardrobe, with just three different capsules, fine if you're on your own but not if you're a couple. I know, I could have asked for more, but in a quality hotel I shouldn't have to. My biggest gripe is brea... Read more

The macdonald rusacks hotel has a perfect location situated overlooking the 18 th green of the old course St Andrews. It's in the city centre within walking distance of everywhere in the city. We went up for a two day trip to St. Andrews and we could not have picked a better hotel. The location was absolutely perfect. Right next to the golf course with view over the course, the beach and the sea. Just on top of the Eden Mill shop, where we were offered a free gin tasting. And directly in the centre of St Andrews. All the staff were super friendly and helpful. The room we had was lovely and spacious. The lamb in the restaurant was to die for and the breakfast, overlooking the sea was j... Read more

We stayed in a suite facing the Old Course. Very beautiful view. Can see the ocean as well from our room. The bathroom was labelled as "Loo With A View", the tub is facing the golf course. Had a beautiful view of sunset & sunrise. Breakfast was great although not elaborate choices. Good exercise walking uphill to downtown St Andrews, will take about 10-15 minutes. Lot of golf souvenir shops around.

I love staying here. We chose a room on the ground floor so that we can freely go in and out with our dog. The hotel is in a great position in St Andrews just next to the Old Course. Breakfast was very nice -on mentioning that we had never had a window seat before the young man kindly set one up for us and after a five minute wait in the lounge we were shown to our table. The Porridge was perfect and just the right amount. The Veggie Breakfast was nice but Quorn Sausages, for me, would be p... Read more

Just returned from an overnight stay at the Rusacks and as every reviewers notes, the location is fantastic! Enjoyed our stay but was disappointed in the difference in quality of the 2 rooms we had booked for the same price. The hotel was very close to the bus stop on the street. The hotel was very nice and greeted us well. The rooms were clean and warm. The on site restaurant had delicious food and dessert. I got a great deal thru booking with Expedia because this hotel is near the golf course and normally is expensive. They had flavored water and fruit in the waiting area. This is a walking town so the City Centre was not far away.

Especially enjoyed the views and hospitality and lovely staff in the bar upstairs. ( we were there most days!) But the room was pretty disappointing really. This hotel is beautiful, clean and has real charm. The location is great because although it's right in St. Andrew's it's on the edge, so it has incredible views of the green and the ocean. Price-wise, it's very accessible. They could have taken it up a notch and made it a 5-star expensive hotel, instead, it's a bit more affordable for anyone to stay (depending on the time of year and if there's an open!). Our room was very clean and cozy... we'd definitely stay again.

Great location with unobstructed views of The Old Course and The Royal and Ancient. Wonderful bars close to hotel. First rate included breakfast with great salmon and everything you'd ever want. The Rusacks is ideally located on the 18th hole of the Old Course making it a great spot for watching and getting to golf and around town. The staff was very accommodating and helpful. The breakfast were first rate. We had two rooms and had booked doubles unfortunately one was a king. Of the two rooms one was quite small the other was quite roomy. Despite temps in the 60s F at night we couldn't get either of the rooms to cool down at night even with the windows open.

The Hotel is immaculate and staff were very helpful and friendly at all times. Only downside was the attic room accommodation. The shower and radiator in the bedroom wasn't working as it should and there is an approximate 3-4 inch cross fall over the narrow width of the bathroom floor. Otherwise, we had a relaxing and enjoyable weekend break.

This hotel is in a marvelous location and has comfortable public rooms, but our hotel rooms were very small and cramped. We were not given a King bed as requested, and the rooms had only showers, not baths, in contrast to the booking confirmation description that we received. Our rooms were not in the main part of the hotel, but in the bottom of a lower quality annex, directly abutting the parking lot and generator for a restaurant. This hotel is located across the street from the Old Course at St. Andrews (the birthplace of golf). and altough it is quaint and comfortable it needs The Four Seasons to step in and take over. Macdonald Hotels is just clipping coupons for being next to the home of golf. This should be the site of a truly great hotel. I also love the interior of the hotel lobby and other rooms because it's all golf related, such as huge picture of Arnold Palmer in the lobby, and there is a special room having a nice decoration about golf legends. Location is excellent, within 10-20 walk to city centre, and nice pub, restaurants supermarket. Also, going to beach is 5-10 min walk cross 18th... Read more

A 5* hotel in a wonderful position overlooking the 18th Fairway of the Old Course. Pity about the service and the quality of the hotel interior. Breakfast on the Sunday was little short of a laugh - no juices, no glasses to have the juice if there was any. Dining room was grossly understaffed. In the bedrooms they had run out of soap and asked guests to use shower gel. The furniture was badly in need of replacement. If you play golf the hotel is iconic; where else can you sit and have breakfast overlooking one of the most famous golf courses in the world. Lovely hotel with a good location in St Andrews. The prices in the bar are a bit steep....but it is a hotel so I guess that is to be expected. Ate in the gastro pub on the first night and really enjoyed the meal. Staff are friendly and helpful. The full cooked breakfast was ok...although my bacon was on the undercooked side. Overall I enjoyed my stay and would go again.

I have quite mixed feelings about this hotel. We had it booked in advance and were really looking forward to our stay as a family. However, the hotel really didn't cater for children. At times, my little one felt like a bit of an inconvenience to the staff. There was no kids menu in the restaurant and no kids rate was offered for our booking. We travel a great deal with our child and this is the first I have experienced this with a 4 star hotel. Check in wasn't very a nice experience again,... Read more

I love this hotel partially because of the location, but they also have a friendly and attentive staff. I was actually upgraded to the Tom Morris, Jr suite, and not sure there is a better view in all of St Andrews. There is a balcony that overlooks the 18th green of the Old Course that will make every golf friend you've ever known insanely jealous.

This hotel sits nicely overlooking the St. Andrews Golf Course. It is very convenient place to stay if you are playing golf. However, the facilities are somewhat rundown. In our case, our patio door would not lock and there was no one within the hotel that could fix it. We were moved to a basement room that over looked a dumpster. The hotel's restaurant serves good food but it is slow in coming. Think they lack adequate staff in the kitchen. The hotel staff were first rate and did their best giv... Read more

Our room was great, on the 4th floor overlooking a very frosty 1st fairway and 18th fairway and green. All the staff were really, really helpful and friendly, making my wife and I feeling really welcome and comfortable, despite the frosty mornings. The restaurants were also very well staffed and the meals were all very much enjoyed. Our visit was a very special birthday present from my daughter, giving us a lovely stay in bonny Scotland and spending some with our grandaughter who is a new stude... Read more

We are not golfers at all and we still really enjoyed the history and feel of this place. I think some might think the hotel borders on dated but we liked it. We also had an upper floor which was a blessing (gorgeous, gorgeous view) but also kinda felt like an attic that we were in. The hotel has a ton of personality. It works the golf theme pretty hard but it's not overwhelming. It feels like a much older grand hotel. The staircase is immense and the whole feel is of older luxury. I suspect it ... Read more
