Lovely hotel. Excellent staff, friendly and helpful. Very clean room but disappointingly dark as we were down below the spa. Food was good in the sports bar and a nice relaxed feeling in there. An enjoyable stay for us and our granddaughter.

Had a wonderful stay. Although it was a little drive it was a perfect place to stay in the middle of 2 days at paultons park. Very kiddy friendly. Food was wonderful. Would definitely recommend stopping here :)

My husband and I spent weekend here for our wedding anniversary. We were made to feel very welcome. It was recognised it was our anniversary at dinner in the evening with bubbly and a message cleverly decorated on dessert plate. Room huge, spotless and very comfortable. Swimming pool could have been a little warmer but lovely atmosphere. We were sorry we didn't have a second night.

I stay here every month due to work meetings. I have to say that I've never been let down yet. Really nice staff, food in the bar is always good and the surroundings are great as well. I'll definitely be there again next month and maybe take the kids to peppa pig land and stay with the family as well.

A lovely hotel but really let down by the beds and wafer thin mattresses supplied for the kids, we had to ask for extra as you could feel the springs through them, even then it was still very uncomfortable for both my duaghters

Enjoyed our stay at the weekend. Very friendly staff and the room was very clean and comfortable. Only disappointment was there was no jacuzzi which most hotels with a pool provide these days. Can not comment on dining as we went out to eat but the Italian restaurant you recommended was excellent in BOTLEY.

The reception clerk was polite & efficient - although a pet hate of mine is two staff talking whilist bieng served.Which happened to us, then another person from the hotel joined in that conversation too.NOT GOOD ENOUGH. We've had a perfect and relaxing overnight stay at Macdonald Botley. I booked last minute and was a little apprehensive about wedding or hen party disturbance but I really can't complain. If there were any functions going on they didn't disturb the peace of the spa retreat we were after! We booked a feature room- it was spacious, comfortable and fully equipped with everything you'd want from a 4* hotel experience. Dressing gowns and coffee machine were a nice extra touch. Upon arrival to the hotel, we were asked to fill in some registrations forms. My children were present with me and the very welcoming reception manager took them to one side, let them fill out some forms, he then handed them a goody bag, drink and a key card for the room (with peppa pig on!) so they were made to feel very important and included in the goings on!. It's the simplest touches which make all the difference where kids are concerned. Our room was wonderful, so very spacious and airy.... Read more

We highly recommend this hotel. We stayed here as part of the peppa pig world package. We were warmly welcomed. Dinner was outstanding and they couldn't do enough for our kids. The pool area was lovely and clean. The beds and pillows were so comfy. Breakfast was delicious which filled us up ready for a day out at peppa pig. Would love to stay again

Overall very good - transfer to the ship was about 40 minutes - timing and pick up were excellent and the room we had was nice and clean. Beautiful peaceful location and settings. Sadly did not get to use the spa but looked good - car was safe and would recommend as saves the "rush" and hassle on day of cruising to get to ship. The coach operators were very good and helpful :-)

The concierge was lovely and made me feel really welcome. The room was fine. Nothing special. The hot water was hot, but really slow for my bath. The shower nozzle either pointed at the wall or the glass door, not in the centre. The fried eggs at breakfast were really crispy, cooked in oil which was too hot. The bacon was boiled not fried. The hash browns were not cooked. The wi fi didn't work and my telephone signal had been blocked and when my partner called me the phone line was noisy. ... Read more

My partner and I stayed here for a romantic spa getaway. The Macdonald website boasts that this is the 'finest 4 star hotel in Southampton' where you can 'experience fine dining amidst the most inviting of landscapes' and enjoy their 'luxurious spa'. It all sounded perfect. As it was a special treat we also paid £50 extra and booked a feature room which boasts 'lovely views of the grounds' and lots of other bits and bobs like extra Nespresso coffee and special toiletries so we thought it would ... I was really disappointed that the restaurant closed at 9pm, the hot food via room service finished at 9.30pm and that it was apparently against hotel policy for any employee to help us find details of a food outlet nearby. It took a lot of trouble on our part to work all this out and we ended up having to organise takeaway pizza! V disappointing!

Rooms are a bit dated and bathroom taps were very noisy. Dining and breakfast service was very good, food was good too. Events room not so good and hotel seems quite worn. Gym last entry was at 7:30pm no effort made to keep open for longer, so was annoyed, other hotels would make exception.

waited absolutely ages to be seated at breakfast day 1 - after that just walked in and sat down as had to leave at 7.45. Breakfasts were cold (and not enough time to ask for it to be reheated) even after mentioning this to reception. Wifi was intermittent at best in the room (last on the corridor) Staff very helpful and obliging - clean throughout - nice!

Hotel is very well appointed but seems to be in decline as the long term parking is in the former tennis courts and what must have been a lovely golf course now being developed for residential housing. Still a nice hotel with good service but gives you the impression that it is creaking at the seams now.

I stay here often for business purposes and find the staff and facilities very accommodating. the only downside is the prices of the drinks in the bar. The breakfast is hot but self serve (a recent but welcome change). Sometimes it can take a while to be seated in the morning but the space used for breakfast is nice. The gym is a little small and could do with better air conditioning but the swimming pool and spa areas are amazing.

The lady on reception dealt with booking in quickly. The room was clean, bigger than expected with a huge comfy bed. Only downside was the pool decor looked a little tired plus the loss of the golf course. Great location to go and explore Chichester in one direction or the anew Forest in the other

From the price guarantee that doesn't, to the aircon that blows hot and cold, everything about this hotel is all fur coat and no knickers. Style over substance in everything they do, from signs that suddenly stop before you reach your destination, continental bar staff who add an air of sophistication, but who struggle to grasp basic English, such as the bar manager who didn't understand the concept of a Lounge Menu. On checkout I found that the hotel had added a charitable donation to my b... Read more

Extremely rude staff on arrival. Paying for £100.00 and your room isn't ready at the check in time of 2:00 (waited an hour). Finishing touches were not made to the room as family members staying at the same time has complimentary signs etc. No information about breakfast times of wake up calls. Room service - you have to call around four times as they take your order and it doesn't show up.

I don't normally write reviews but this place was bad enough to warrant one. Wifi signal in the room is useless, to get any sort of internet at all you almost have to stand in the corridor - the food in the main restaurant was ok but significantly over priced, staff were abrupt and rude. We went to the restaurant and were made to wait, when there was hardly anyone in the place, and yet three staff had seen us, and when they did they just handed us menus to look stood up, I had to say can "can we... The executive room was not very executive, the web site said seating area, this was two chairs and a small table in the corner, this is surely a standard feature of a 4* hotel. The restaurant was very overpriced. £23 for a steak and sides are all extra. We ate in the Sports bar, not a nice setting and the staff were extremely miserable and didn't smile or acknowledge us. The "Free" internet is absolutely useless, it is run bu SKY and you have to agree to them and third parties being able to con... Read more

Room is lovely, hotel is nice, slightly annoying though as when we checked in receptionist told us that breakfast booked at check in was £15.50 per person, per day. We explained that we had rung and tried to book when we made the reservation but still had to pay full price. Apologies if it is always this price, it wasn't the impression we got at check in.

Having visited this hotel many times it is sad to see that it is now looking very tired with a lack of pride in the public areas. The sports bar looked as if it had not been cleaned for weeks - cob webs visible where we sat. The food at dinner and breakfast very good. The staff mostly friendly and helpful. Bed very comfortable and room (304) very quiet. Such a pity the golf course has been sold to give room for a new housing development of over 1000 houses. It is just not the same anymore.

We had a nice room executive twin, which even in summer was a bit chilly, they rectified this quickly by bringing a fan heater in. The staff were all nice, pleasant etc. They need to provide more toiletries in the bathroom, 1 shampoo 1 shower gel for 2 people not adequate also more teabags milks and sweetners,, just little things like that make a difference. No detail. Queried it and their records very poor. Told to "forget it" with no apology. Stayed at Craxton Wood over 40 noghts and this service was (by comparison) very poor.

Hotel appears tired and in need of some modernisation. Swimming pool very tiny and packed with small children. Had eaten breakfast by the time the tea and toast arrived. Staff mainly Eastern European who couldn't make the drinks we asked for in the bar. We thought the hotel was very expensive for such an average underwhelming experience. We stayed in this hotel two years ago prior to embarking on a cruise from Southampton and found it convenient and comfortable. As a party of 12 it was necessary to find somewhere with enough rooms available and parking for 3 cars overnight. We booked this hotel as part of a package deal with Peppa Pig World / Paulton's Park, when we took our 4 year old. As a family with a young baby the receptionist was very keen to ensure we had everything we needed and genuinely cared. It's a shame the pool only holds 20 at a time and you have to queue and wait for a slot when it's busy. Room was very clean and comfortable, although found the mattress a little soft.

The coffee never arrives, it takes ages for your eggs to come to the table and when they do they are horrible. The staff are too busy to help so you end up just leaving hungry and annoyed.
