My wife and I have stayed here many times, we have now lost count and always usually happy with all aspects of the Hotel.( apart from the parking charge ) This particular trip was a weekend in Southampton and to view the Harmony of the Seas that was docked right by the Hotel. I had accumulated enough IHG Rewards points for a free room, so I was saving around £140.00, breakfast was £16 for 2 of us and good value. The room is clean and tidy as you would expect from such an established chain of hotels. In the restaurant the staff were fantastic and as helpful as they could be, unfortunately the food was sub standard. Garlic Mushrooms with Stilton to start, not a drop of Stilton in sight, approximately 6 chopped button mushrooms on a tiny slice of bread with a side salad. The main was a steak and ale pie with mash potatoes and peas. The pie, pretty tasteless, and rosemary leaves dotted over it with a sm... Read more

We arrived to find the ground floor has been refurbished. The area for the bar, restaurant and lounge has been extended and the reception desk is in the right place - opposite the main entrance. The choice of seating is mixed and there are some sockets for gadget recharging. The restaurant is now integrated into the lobby area although dinner is served, the choice appears to be the same as elsewhere with a dish of the day as an option. Generally the redesign works but the test will be when the S... Read more

Best location in Southampton for cruise customers. The hotel has a nice reception area. I didn't eat breakfast. Rooms clean and pleasant but corridors a little worn and walls could do with a scrub. Would stay again for Buisness or pleasure.

Stayed for two nights in a standard double......asked for high and got high, level 9 looking towards the start of the estuary. Only downfall with the rooms at this level is that it is not an all glass view, unlike all the other levels. So with this in mind i asked to change the next day and without any hassle they moved all of our stuff to a room on level 6 (level 7 & 8 are executive suites). We stayed at the hotel prior to a cruise from Southampton. We had a beautiful view from our room looking out at the port. The staff was very friendly and let us borrow a phone charger because we did not bring an international plug. The breakfast was included with the room and was excellent. We walked to the cruise terminal (about 3/4 miles). It was an easy walk pulling our luggage and a taxi would have cost 10 Euros. I would recommend this hotel. It was easy to walk to shopping and restaurants.

The location of this hotel is brilliant if you are cruising out on holiday and want an extra night before or after your holiday. The reception area is newly refurbished and bright and airy. The rooms are clean and more than adequate although the bathrooms could do with bringing up to date. The pool and leisure facilities are never particularly busy - we had the pool to ourselves completely for an hour on the afternoon we arrived which was just lovely. Will we return - Absolutely we will.

Stayed in an executive room which had recently been refurbished. Room was comfortable enough and clean. The room was facing towards the city cruise terminal side with a great view of the estuary and the cruise terminal. The bathroom was clean and nice with large walk in shower but no bath. Upon first sight of the exterior I was concerned. Upon entering the lobby my fears were immediately extinguished. The inside has been updated and the staff was very friendly. The room was very spacious and modern. The only negatives I can think of was the small, slow elevators and there was an odd smell in the hallway of our floor. Thankfully the room didn't smell. Stopped for 2 nights whilst on a training course. The room was very basic, i didn't sleep well as it was so noisy with doors banging etc... Very limited choice of evening meal- food was ok but overpriced for what it was. Breakfast was terrible- raw scrambled eggs, undercooked bacon, watered down orange juice and really not much choice of anything else. We booked this hotel due to the location. It is a bit worn down. The breakfast was good, but I missed reel butter for my toast instead of Flora margarine. I had a Ceasar salad last night, and in the menu they described all the right ingredienses, but the chef did not know what anchovy fillets is because what was on my plate was a marinated sardin. Parking for two weeks as promised by call centre but denied due to boat show. Reception sorted out nearby alternative. Breakfast - one lady arranging tables totally under pressure to get tables - inappropriate when one has just got up! This has been the same for some years?? Lady does excellently but rushes around which is off putting! Management should get her help !!! Reasonable for the purpose.

I mean there's nothing outstanding about it. Beds aren't the comfiest but if you need somewhere to crash not bad as long as you are willing to pay the price. Staff are friendly though. Be aware if you are foreign it's in your best interest to say your name "first name" and then "last name" when making a reservation. They thought my boyfriends last name was his first name. We spent over 30 minutes fixing the matter.

Spent one night here awaiting cruise ship departure. Arrived by plane (London Heathrow) from the States so mid-morning but staff (Stacey) was great. She assured us that although they had a full house as soon as someone checked out of the accommodations like we had reserved they'd get the cleaning crew in and let us know. Therefore we able to check in about 30 minutes later (before 11 AM) and had chance to shower before going on a walking tour of Southampton. The shower made us feel so much fresh... Read more

Just stayed the one night, to see my partner for a few hours the next day. Room was excellent, clean, modern, very comfortable and felt big. Room overlooked the seafront and main road through but that didn't spoil it. The new lobby area was pleasing to see and a good improvement on from my last visit. Many thanks.

We had a really lovely stay. Was sad to leave. My husband asked for a high floor with a view of the Red Funnel Port. We were given the top floor with an all round view of the Docks. We also asked for breakfast in the room and on the order card we could only see how to order for 2 of us so I wrote a note on the bottom to ask if we could possibly have some toast and cereal for my toddler and daughter and an extra sausage for her. When it arrived they said they had given a few other extras incase ... Read more

Location: good for a pre-cruise. We stayed there when the town was hotting up in preparation for the annual Boat Show. Unfortunately the usual route into the hotel was cordoned off, and as a result our short-sighted driver became somewhat confused and mounted a concrete bollard at 20mph, giving us all a good laugh. Fortunately the other front passenger didn't even notice. Our rooms on the top floor afforded us a wonderful view of boats and buildings. We took our evening meal in the restaurant: n... Read more

In April, we needed a pre-cruise hotel, and the Holiday Inn is my go-to because of it's proximity to City Terminal (you can just walk to the ship). It's also really close to the restaurants and bars in Southampton (short walking distance through the walls). The rooms have been recently renovated, and they look good. The lobby and restaurant area are also good. We had breakfast both days at the hotel, and the buffet was good. The only negative about this hotel are the elevators. They small an... Read more

There is no better location for the boat show as you are staying 'in the show itself' but, this is a very tired, 70's building, bedrooms are dated with very hard , thin beds, showers over the bath. For Southampton, the Pig Hotel or Lymwood show how it's done, but, they are full! Managed to book a week prior to the show. Food , adequate, staff helpful, so given its been built to service cruise ships, and probally gets booked quite well, isn't it worth rebuilding a new high end version?

I have stayed at this hotel several times. The decor had been changed since my last visit and I felt the reception area looked very 'unloved'. The layout was certainly an improvement though. Room was cold and as my husband is disabled he feels the cold quite badly. When I asked about the heating I was told it was not operational in September. I was provided with a portable heater! Although this site is now starting to look a bit old and tired the staff are still very attentive and the food and service was generally good. As with many chain pubs the menu is mostly 'snip and ping' type food rather than requiring any huge kitchen expertise, but the upside is consistency and the wait time is normally not too long. This is not gourmet dining but for a comfortable / clean environment its ideal for a business lunch and offers reasonable value for money

If visiting the Southampton Boat Show, this hotel is an excellent choice as it is right in the centre of the Boat Show, so no travelling to and from the show. Parking is great and extremely cheap (£7 per day) at back of hotel and Boat Show tickets are included in the price of the room (but they don't say that when booking on the web site).
