There's a lot of ground works taking place around the entrance to the hotel's grounds - it can make it difficult to find, if you're new to the area & under pressure. Similarly, getting out can involve a wait while wagons queue to get into the construction site. The hotel's facilities are OK - although it'll be nosey if you're back to a room before the site stops work. Once 5pm arrived, all machinery seemed to stop. Good call.

We have stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Southampton East on many occasions. This was our first time at Southampton West. This one is smaller than East but has the same adequate rooms (ours was no. 100 on the ground floor). Plenty of room to park even when busy. The card key for our room didn't work properly. We even changed it at reception but it still took many swipes to unlock the door. Must be a faulty lock. As the dining room is so small, you are allocated a 'slot' for breakfast. We had th... Stayed overnight may 21st. Only an overnight stop but still have to say disappointed. Went to buy a drink early evening..£7 for a glass of wine!!! Dinner looked very pricey so we went elsewhere. Room was basic but ok, but very small double bed. Breakfast was lukewarm, no bacon and scrambled egg or no egg. Worse thing was the remnants of previous night dinner still on the floor under tables. Hadn't been hoovered at all by looks of it. Sorry, but not impressed at all and won't be staying again.

We booked this hotel the night before our cruise departed, and when I read some of the reviews I was a bit dubious, however we need not have worried because it was fine. The hotel was easy to find and well marked up. The car park seemed like an oasis of calm after the busy motorway and even though there are works going on around it they were not at all obtrusive and the area had a lot of fresh greenery surrounding it and a field with horses nearby. All the little things thought of such as microwave to heat babies bottles and children's plastic plates and cutlery. Breakfast time suits all as quite large timescale. Only downside is road work going on around and avoid early breakfast as lots of workmen fill breakfast area. And not very healthy options for children's meals...chips or chips! 'Tall paul' is an absolute credit to the team of staff who were all fantastic, but Paul went above and beyond even down to mending my fathers wheel chair. Well done holiday inn, head and shoulders above your competitors travel lodge! Thank you for making the start of my holiday one to remember

Stayed here for a night and was loving the size of our room.. The bed was extremely comfy and room spotless.. Check in took little while as seemed short staffed. Was very disappointed to discover that there was no bath in the hotel room. I found parking great and that night had a great nights sleep. I was disappointed with breakfast, being British I enjoy a nice British breakfast and if a hotel in Folkestone that charged £22 pppn with a full breakfast included can do this, then I expect a chain... The hotel is in what looks like the middle of roadworks / building site at present but that doesn't really affect it unless you want a scenic view. It wasn't expensive and as such it met our expectations - a small-ish room for four people but sufficient and was clean and tidy on arrival and bed was comfortable. The standard Express hotel with good internet service in all areas of the hotel and free parking. Some building work on the road near the hotel but the work stops overnight so not an issue. They do have food on site but I wanted to find something local for another trip later in the year so asked for suggestions. They advised me to go to the ship inn that was a short cab ride away and it was very good.

As mentioned in some other reviews, it is in the middle of a major building site but unless you intend to stay in the hotel all day (does anyone do that?) then it really does not affect you. Excellent staff, great room and bathroon, limited, but acceptable, breakfast - let down by very poor evening meal (complete with cold chips and strange fish). No air conditioning in room, no room safe (which would be very useful, especially when staying "pre-cruise"). Try not to get a room on the same side as where people smoke, as they're outside all night and can't help but being loud. It's probably no issue when it's rainy or cold, but in the summer you can't help but have your hotel window open so can here them outside. Also the food was microwaved to the last inch of its life. We stayed for one night earlier this week while visiting our daughter. I have to say I was very impressed. We've stayed at Holiday Inn before but not the Express one. The staff were very welcoming and the room and its facilities were quite reasonable. Certainly better than we expected. Yes, its in the middle of a building site but this did not have any impact on us. I am sure once the road improvement scheme that is going on is complete, this will be a good location especially for anyone wanting... Read more

We stayed here on a Saturday night at the beginning of October and were quite surprised to find it not only extremely difficult to access the hotel due to numerous local road closures and diversions, but also the work seemed to go on all night right next to the hotel - no mention on the website when we booked though. We were also annoyed that we were given a room right outside the lift when our profile states that we always want a room away from the lift, but since we arrived at 10.30pm we were ... Read more

Located just off the M271/M27 with plenty of car parking space this is what I would expect from what I see as a motorway and one night stopover hotel. The hotel is pleasant enough and I found the staff to be efficient and helpful. Room was as I expected and being on the ground floor there was no motorway noise. I arrived late and had a pizza that was actually very nice. I would not stop here for a holiday or short break due to the location but otherwise no problems.

Your usual side-of-motorway hotel. Fine for a night, did the job. Second beds weren't made in any of the rooms, arriving tired late at night and having to wait a while for all of them to be sorted obviously isn't the best. Otherwise, nothing special.

We stayed here for 1 night in October, 2016. There was plenty of free parking space and we found the staff very welcoming and helpful. Our room was very clean, and the bed was comfortable. There was no air conditioning in the room though a fan was provided and there was also an option to ask for sheets for the bed rather than the supplied duvet. Temperatures during our stay were cool anyway so this was not an issue. The bed was only a standard size which seemed a bit on the small side to what w... Read more

Stayed in room 122. Nice and quiet with no noise from roadworks. Fantastic warm welcome from staff and this continued when ordering a meal. Nothing too much trouble for the staff. Standard hotel food and the hot breakfast offering is scrambled egg and sausages, no bacon. Rooms are comfy and clean. Good value for money. There is a Brewers Fayre pub opposite if the hotel menu doesn't suffice.
