Having chosen and stayed at Botleigh Grange Hotel in May 2013 for our reunion weekend Friday to Monday we decided to revisit in May 2016 Friday to Monday for another reunion as we had been so pleased with our previous visit. Our party was 27 people this time with Dinner, Bed & Breakfast on Friday & Saturday and Bed & Breakfast on Sunday. We had arranged to have dinner on Sunday again at a local Eastleigh Jazz Club. Unfortunately 2 from our group were unable to attend so 25 of us stayed at Botlei... Read more

There was a group of us staying at this hotel for one night. Our room was quite spacious, and everything was very clean. The bathroom was also quite large and very clean. However, this is an old hotel and some of the facilities were a bit strange! There was a lot of storage space and the beds were extremely comfortable. However, the TV was set on a console in the middle of the room so could only be viewed from either the dressing table/desk or the beds, so we had to turn it around depending... Read more

booked at late notice a room for a couple of days. thought the room was good clean and comfortable, but little warm at night even with the window open. the dinner was great value and the food was superb. The staff were very polite. i think a little more organisational training would be good for the waiters. these comments are meant to be constructive to improve the hotel even more. i would happily stay again and am trying to arrange a group to visit for the Motown night in July.

We have been going to the Botleigh Grange for years and always had a good meal until they recently changed their bar menu. We have eaten there twice since the new menu was introduced. The first time they served my meal and the fries turned up about 10 minutes after my meal was served and the meal was luke warm. This time, a different choice of meal which was also luke warm and the fries were soggy. The prices for the bar meals have shot up and they really are overpriced. We love this hotel and a... Just out of Southampton is the Spa Resort called Botleigh Grange. It is around 650 years old and full of history. The staff are all very young and super helpful. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. Meals are really well priced and delicious. Also they have a heated indoor pool and sauna. Very good for the weary traveller. WE booked for two nights and would have liked to stay for more. It is really well situated for the sights around the area. Just loved it.

Nice cosy traditional hotel with lovely grounds. Reception staff a bit dopey. Our room was clean and the beds comfortable. The bar meals pretty disappointing. We ordered granary bread sandwich and they had run out. Why don;t they just get someone to buy some when they know it is getting low? Very short of vegetarian options too. Quite a long wait and heard complaints from other guests. The pool ,sauna etc was lovely ,very clean too. They hadn't enough staff for the amount of guests as was a bu... Read more

On the face of it this looks the perfect place to stop in if you're going to see the cricket or a show at the Ageas Bowl. Well, forget it. It might look the part on the outside, but the inside story is you don't get what you pay for in what is a veritable hothouse. The rooms have no air con, our stand up fan didn't work, you needed the windows open to stop sweating, and you had had to climb into the bath to have a shower - and all for £200 a night. Stayed here for one night in June. The building and grounds are beautiful and the room was spacious, and bed very comfortable. It's more traditional so had an older grand feel to it rather than full of modern touches. Only criticism is room (3rd floor) was very stuffy and warm (even with the 2 sash windows open). We didn't eat here in the evening, but the breakfast was lovely. I would stay here again.

Lots of character but feels a bit tired, especially in the bedrooms. Needs some modernisation to bring it up to standard. Food was excellent, both dinner and breakfast. Drinks were disappointing as Carling was only lager available on tap and the wine that we tasted wasn't great. A nice stay but not as good as it could have been.

We stayed here before our ferry to the Isle of Wight. The children were impressed at the facade of the hotel. Our rooms were spacious, as were the bathrooms. We enjoyed our time at the pool (although how to work out the locker room logistics was left to a couple of baffled guests). Wish we'd had more time to explore the grounds. Children and Dad very much enjoyed the generous breakfast. The windows could have done with being able to open further as I got ludicrously hot on a June night.

We chose this hotel because it has an indoor pool which we planned to use before breakfast. Unfortunately we were not made aware that on Wednesdays the pool is not open until 10am. so we couldn't use it. In agreement with most other reviews, the rooms were dated and this in my opinion should be standard for a '4 star hotel'. But the staff. On driving down the main drive, this is a very impressive building. We were told by a member of staff where to find the room for our tea and found it to be in the bar area. A young lady took our order for our tea and I was most surprised that a large hotel could not provide skimmed milk when asked. If you need a room with a bathroom that is filthy, broken and dangerous then this hotel is for you. The shower fell off the wall, the water was so hot my partner scalded herself and she ended up having to shower down in the spa. This was after she had gone and bought bathroom cleaner to clean the various human detritus off the toilet from the previous resident. We gave the hotel the chance to refund us the cost and they stuck at 25% and a complimentary afternoon tea - we think we'll pass thank... Read more

We stayed at this hotel for weekend the food was good and the room clean. However hot as the hotel is old and there is no air conditioning. The hotel is very badly let down by appalling service. The restaurant is closed to guests in favour of weddings even though assurances are given when booking that the restaurant would be open. We were offered the opportunity to eat in the bar at restaurant prices are they joking so no thank you. On the second night of our stay we were informed the restaurant... Read more

We stayed here in a family room for two nights with our son. The staff on reception upon our arrival were very friendly indeed and helpful. We had a large and spacious room on the ground floor at the far end of the building which had a double bed and a pair of bunk beds. The room was spotlessly clean. It was however a little shabby, the bathroom was a bit past its best and had a hairline crack in the toilet, the curtains were very faded and there was only one bed side lamp. In fact the maj... Good Value - Botleigh Grange Hotel, Southampton - Stayed here August 25, 2016 ‚?? A stately hotel with roots in the 1700‚??s. Beautiful ambiance, grand property and grounds. Reception welcoming as were the staff. Hotel has tried to modernize but retain charm. The room size was acceptable, well appointed and quiet (no air conditioning). Internet, parking and, good breakfast included. It was a fairly long taxi ride from the Port and a fairly long walk to the nearest village. Helpful hints: Fo... Read more

A beautiful hotel with lots of character and stunning gardens. Lovely pool and Spa area. Small bar area which could do with a larger seating area. The bedroom was large and had everything you need even a fan it was warm ! Unfortunately a wedding and an 80th party was on so we were unable to eat at the hotel on this occasion. Previously have eaten here and it was yummy.

I booked a table of 8 on a Monday night for my sister's birthday. Their were not enough staff and the meal took 3 hours for two courses. The manager admitted the chef could not cope and it showed in the quality of the food. Some was great but most was virtually unedible.

Nice location, easy access to motorways but hotel needs so much money spent on it which would probably run to millions, seriously! Was upgraded to a suite (hate to see a standard room) big room again furniture etc needs updating like the overall appearance of the hotel & grounds, it could be something really special. Room had a slightly raised wardrobe but don't think had been dusted under since 2000 Bathroom couldn't budge the control for the shower & hot/cold water, needs replacing to use p... Read more

Where to start? Avoid this hotel! Health & safety could have a field day here with its crumbling walls by the garden. Tired & faded decor. Sticky tables.A sense of abandonment. Public areas grubby. No staff. Waited for 20mins at the bar to be served (1 girl serving, doing her best) then gave up. Waited for an hour for dinner to turn up, as did everyone else. Restaurant manager run off his feet doing everything he could with no help whatsoever. Prawns absolutely tasteless. Had to ring down for to... Read more

The worst hotel I ever visited. UNTIDY EVERYWHERE. Bathroom was dirty moldy. Room furniture with stains. Breakfast tables dirty. Cutlery dirty. Served English breakfast was impossible to eat because most probably heated up. I could keep writing....... DO NOT RECOMMEND. I included picture of the bathroom.Absolutely disgusted with the cost of this hotel. It is not 4 stars hotel as they say. Hotel just looks nice from outside but the room we had was incredibly dirty. I booked a dinner b and b package prior to a ship departure from Southampton. I had read previous reviews, and knew that not everyone had a great experience. The place is easy to find, and the road is well signed. The first impressions of the outside are stimulating, because it looks like faded grandeur. Our subsequent experience went on to show that since a previous pinnacle of success in the 1940's, the place had rarely looked forwards. On arrival (which we knew to be early), the first words t... Botleigh grange hotel and spa on paper should be a lovely hotel. Beautiful setting and buildings. Decor and rooms a bit tired but comfortable. Would describe overall cleanliness as a bit grubby. Stayed for 3 nights bed and breakfast as was on a training course locally and had other colleagues staying at the hotel also. Breakfast time became a bit of a running joke every day as it has been consistently bad. The food was always cold and undercooked and there was a shortage in waiting staff. Thro... Read more

Attended a wedding at the hotel and booked a room for that evening. The hotel room was quite dated and certainly didn't feel special. The wedding was pretty basic and the drinks package was misleading "Free-flowing wine from the start of the wedding breakfast until the main course is cleared" - what this actually meant was only 1 bottle of each colour could be on the table at one time. Staff were also slow in replacing the wine which meant that people had empty glasses throughout the meal. The... Read more

Visited here recently for a family wedding, the whole of which including the ceremony took place at this venue. We also stayed overnight in one of the double rooms. The wedding was lovely and staff worked really hard throughout the day however could have benefited from some more staff on the main bar which was always busy and people having to wait excessive amounts of time for a drink. Staff were also slow to clear glasses afterwards. Food was ok, nothing special I would say, but presentation w... Read more

I stayed in this hotel as an overnight on the way to a cruise departing from Southampton. We got off to a bad start. When I booked I was offered an upgrade for a mention on Facebook. I did this and received a voucher. On presenting the voucher the receptionist said "oh yes" and got a second key. She then inquired in the back office and on return announced that there were no upgrade rooms available. Ok, I set off for the room. It is was a large very pleasant room with a nice bathroom. We met with the lovely Lisa yesterday. I have to say how impressed we were with her level of professionalism and the hotel itself. She explained all of the standard options to us clearly and in an interesting manner. Handled any questions or requests in a positive manner. First venue that I am actually looking forward to getting the quote from.

We first stayed here 14 years ago, for a wedding, and weren't impressed by the service. Fast forward to the present day and, guess what ... ? We stayed there again (it is very convenient for visiting the couple whose wedding we attended) and the service was the same. Not all the staff, I have to say that the people at reception were excellent, others were not. As some other reviewers have noted, if there is a wedding reception, then there isn't enough space at the bar (and not enough bar staff) ... Read more

We booked this hotel to round off our week in Cornwall. It looked very appealing from outside but unfortunately we found it run down! The first room we were allocated was really down at heal. Chairs with holes, bathroom needing a thorough clean and rerouting! The manager was very helpful and friendly and changed it to a different one. Unfortunately this was above patio and as both nights had functions the noise went on until 1.00 am. After traveling for 6 hours it wasn't our idea of a rest!

Awful decor, requires an update for everything I touched. Not the luxury the pictures would have you believe. A colleague booked us in here and it wasn't the best choice of hotels we could've had somewhere far more luxurious than this! I'm sure my room wasn't the worst.....however it was pretty bad. The best way to sum up this hotel is one persons quaint and period is another persons tired and old fashioned. We found it quaint and period. The setting is lovely with the lake and gardens and the building conjures up a bygone era of big English country houses.
