We booked under a special offer. The bed was comfortable but the room smelled musty. The breakfast was adequate but the dining room was overcrowded and it was difficult to get in and out. Overall, it could be better and I would not book there again.

Just once a year, over the past few years I stay here as I do an annual job nearby. Every year I get more and more disappointed at how much this hotel is slipping away. Many years ago it was a lovely beautique hotel and now it is more like student accommodation ( please no disrespect meant) I book a single and being a very small person you would think it would be ok to be put in a 6' closet ! Even I struggle in the bathroom with its sliding door. It's not comfortable. The room was dirty with sp... Read more

Enjoyed a comfortable five night stay for a college course so prime location. Lovely clean room with all required facilities. Breakfast was good every day and friendly service. Have recommended to friends and family.

Stayed for just the one night with a friend. Perfect delight if a little old and needing a tlc. But lets face it, if your'e that old, don't we all. PARKING. All the photos of the hotel show the front door which is in the lovely Westoe Village, the car park and reception entrance is actually the other side of the building in the one way system. You need to approach from the sea end past the big Westoe Pub head to follow signs for Sunderland, get in left hand lane and the entrance is at the end o... Read more

reasonable prices and good accommodation, but it is very hard to find, You will need to familiarise your self with the street maps as the road it is on is only accessible from the middle. each end is blocked off.

We had a two night stay. First room offered was on the ground floor with an integral corridor with a low ceiling with non-operating lights to the bathroom. We had the room changed to an upper floor one. This was adequate but having stayed several times previously the room not anything special, which disappointing. Good tea making facilities. Breakfast was very good, made to order, and the highlight of our stay. Unfortunately no fresh fruit and yogurts are not kept chilled, just left out on the c... Read more

The Birthplace of William Fox, three times prime minister of New Zealand, this small hotel has a certain charm. We were attending a wedding in The Hedworth Hall and this hotel is a short walk away. The staff are pleasant and helpful (our bedside lights were not working and were swiftly fixed when we notified staff). The room was clean and comfortable and well stocked with tea, coffee etc (although not re-stocked on the second day so we had no tea in the morning). The bathroom was fine if a littl... Read more

My wife and I stayed for 1 night recently. We normally stay elsewhere but needed a change and chose this hotel because it seemed different to other options. It is in a very pleasant area of the town. We had a little difficulty getting into the hotel as the doors were locked but once we got in the welcome was courteous and warm. We had to wait for 1/4 hour as our room was not ready. The room was comfortable, very clean and well equipped considering the cost. The breakfast was very good, freshly ... Read more

Stayed there with my wife for one night. Lovely late 16 century building with delightful staff, we got a lovely welcome from a lovely lady and were given a suite upgrade. Room was fine with a spacious enough bathroom. Breakfast was superb. Not wanting to be indelicate, but the toilet flush was week and there was no toilet brush. So - if you're the type to eat big curries and drink Guinness you could be there for ages re-flushing again and again.

We were dropping off the in-laws for their Baltic Cruise and my father in law got it in his head the ship was leaving from South Shields. While we rather like the town of Tynemouth we decided to spend the night the south side of the river at South Shields. Of course when the paperwork was checked they were actually leaving from North Tyneside meaning we had a double trip of the Tyne tunnel and a night the wrong side of the river. Grrr. We had to rely on sat nav to find the car park as the hotel... Read more
