Went to a "do" at Hawkstone Park recently and whilst everyone was friendly the décor was so dated and shabby (but not chic) the event was rather downrated. The paint on the exterior was peeling off the window frames and the interior looked very 1950's. Shame because there is a nice building waiting to be uncovered.

Went here with my mum as a last minute trip, so booked without reading reviews, this was a mistake. The location of the hotel is fantastic if you plan of spending time at the follies which is a great day out. The hotel itself is in a sorry state with peeling paint, split wood, dated furnishings and dusty curtains. What appeared to be the old stable block is where we were our room was and it was not nice! There were some dubious stairs which when it rained became a challenge, you had to cling ... Read more

As per some other reviews, yes the place needs some refurbishment and TLC,but on our visit (early May 16) I can not praise all the staff enough, very helpful, courteous and polite. The dinner in the restaurant was enjoyable and the food was good, we ordered off the days special menu(great value) the breakfast had a fantastic range of food both hot and cold(buffet style). Our room was adequate for golfers, tea, coffee, soap, shampoo, clean towels and clean bedding. The bar prices were a little on the... We stayed here for the first time as a convenient hotel for Hawkstone Park Follies. Check-in was from 2.00pm. We were offered an upgrade to a suite (Room 310) for an additional £24.00, as it was not being used that day. The suite contained a large lounge with a 2 seater settee, chair and a dining table with 4 chairs, a flat screen TV and free wifi for an hour. The lounge was spacious and light and free bottled water was supplied. The bedroom had a 4 poster bed, a small flat screen TV and an e... Read more

We took a party of 40 mostly golfers and had problems. On arrival we were advised our evening meal was put back so they could attend to a golf party of 12, or we could eat in the main restaurant on a fixed menu!!!! not what we paid for. The food was good apart from the fish some ordered which was described as inedible. Breakfast was self serve and was fine, choice of hot and cold items. The place needs a refurbishment in main rooms and bedrooms. Staff were helpful on several occasions for the gr... Read more

The hotel is a 13 mile drive from the town centre. Good for golfing parties but perhaps not the best choice for couples. Rooms are large but furnishing is basic rather than luxury. Breakfast is standard chain hotel DIY. Not really enough staff on in the morning so service not good and checkout slow. No lift and lots of stairs so don't bring lots of cases.

On first sight Hawkstone Park does not look that appealing, it does need a bit of TLC and a lick of paint. We were there two nights to attend a wedding locally. Room was fine and clean although toilet could have been cleaner but nothing too desperate. Carpets a bit threadbare in parts. I would love to see garden planters painted and filled with plants it would make such a difference. Now on the plus side staff were very efficient and friendly. Food was very good we had 3 course meal which was se... Read more

The room internally was fine everything working, all a bit old and dated but in line with what we paid. Restaurant food was OK rather basic British fare, not for fine dining, the wine however is overpriced, cost nearly the same as the meal. Overall the place needs millions spent on it to bring it up to today's standards, it mostly seem s to cater for golfers from further north, several large groups were there when we stayed. I do feel rather sad about the state of the building as others have ... Read more

Stayed for just one night whilst visiting area with friends. Rooms were bit dated but spotlessly clean and v comfy bed. TV could do with more channels but for time spent in room it was ok. Had 3 course meal in restaurant which was excellent. Good choice and service brilliant. Lovely breakfast in morning too. Stay made better with weather bejbg fantastic but would have been nicer with some summer flowers - baskets/pots especially outside bar area to cheer it up. Staff excellent. Would stay here a... I booked my room in The Hawkstone Park Hotel at very short notice. I'd read the rather mixed bag of reviews on TripAdvisor which did put me off a bit but the location was ideal for where I was working over the weekend. It's very true to say that this hotel really is in need of lots of TLC but its not that bad. Ok, in my room there were some nasty stains on the carpet, the window latch was broken, there were a few cobwebs and I couldn't turn the radiator off! The carpets on the stairs are v... Read more

I can highly recommend this hotel as a Wedding Venue after my daughter's wedding on 11th June. Organisation and attention to detail was superb and the food was delicious. The staff are excellent and excel at customer service, nothing is too much trouble. The large reception room is perfect and we were able to decorate it as we wanted. It was nice to come down on Sunday morning to discover the staff had taken down all the balloons, flowers etc for us and left it tidy for us to pack up. Saved us s... Read more

This hotel / resort has the potential to be fantastic. Situated in the same site as since excellent and modern golf facilities with two championship courses. Some views of the follies from the Hawkstone Course are phenomenal. The hotel is nice. It is large and showing signs of fatigue. There are some great big lounges by the bar with big comfy chairs as well as a decent outdoor sitting area. Restaurant was OK, offering an evening set menu for £20 (2 courses) and £25 (3) I think. A big thank you to Richard and staff who were absolutely fantastic on the day of our daughters wedding. The wedding breakfast was stunning and the waiter service was exceptional. We have had so many wonderful comments about the quality of the food and professionalism of Richard who run the day with such care and fine detail. Many thanks too all, would highly recommend this hotel for your wedding.

Hawkestone Park hotel is ideal as a venue for corporate golf days. I have played and stayed there numerous times over the last few years but consider the hotel is now looking rather tired and in need of some refurbishment and modernisation. The staff did not look particularly motivated and maybe this is a reflection of their work environment. The location and golf courses couldn't be better and I thoroughly enjoy myself whenever I go. The food at the after golf dinner was disappointing.

Stayed at Hawkstone on Shropshire Golf Tour having played the courses a number of times in the past, courses probably as good as ever but the hotel is in need of some severe attention. Rooms are extremely tired and in need of urgent update. Pricing policy for the bars and food needs some careful re-thinking, basically the prices are outrageous (example £2.80 for a tonic sized Ginger beer !!!!) wine in the hotel is vastly inflated to the point that customers simply didn't bother to order wine an... Stayed at the hotel as part of a golfing group in July and would not recommend this listing for others to stay at. It is clear that the hotel has seen better days and was very tired The food was OK but there was no vegetarian option for our group on the choices we were given. Poor selection of beers in the very tired bar and expensive as well. Bedroom was clean but the TV did not work. The place needs a serious re furb as the location is superb. A real shame

The hotel is tired. The whole outside looks shabby and dated. Inside reminds you of Fawlty Towers and the 'Two Soups' sketch. Peeling paintwork, dodgy wallpaper, a lack of plug sockets, dodgy plumbing, cheap furniture, poor quality fixtures - these are just some of the problems with the rooms. You can't open the windows (we were told it was for health & safety- twaddle). Apparently this place was refurbished in 1990's - we don't know which bit, but nothing has been touched since. We were promised a 4 poster bed with a private balcony overlooking the golf course, and had neither. The balcony was shared with a couple next door, with a view of overgrown trees outside. The bed was large, but not a four poster. Bathroom was small, whereas lounge room was exceptionally large. TV signal was extremely poor. 3 stars because room was clean and comfortable. Wifi was g... Overall an excellent golfing venue! We just love the welcome we receive from the happy workforce! Everyone has time for you and give you a first class service! Yes the accommodation is a little tired but where it lacks in that department it is made up in others. The kitchen always comes up trumps the food as always is lovely! The staff friendly which makes our stay enjoyable! The hotel is about to undergo a refurbishment which can only improve what is already an excellent golfing destination

16 of us visited hawkstone , a place we have been coming to on and off for 30 years. What we found were two golf courses in excellent condition, very helpful staff and delightful food. The hotel itself is in urgent need of refurbishment but I understand that the new owners have a programme of works which will resolve this. Our trip was helped by fantastic weather but that was just the icing on the cake

We arrived late, in the dark and so failed to appreciate the obvious splendour of the building. Our room was quiet, well equipped and comfortable, and we were able to organise a very pleasant meal in our room. Our golfing society has visited Hawkstone on 6 or 7 occasions over the last 20 years or so but decided against any further visits 5 years ago after we found both courses in very poor condition. This year the Secretary decided to bite the bullet and try again and we were very pleased. The courses have been nursed back to very good health, particularly the greens which were smooth and true, if a little slick for some of our higher handicappers. Only stayed for one evening in standard double room. Hotel was very festive and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean fresh and had everything you need. We enjoyed light refreshments when we arrived, with a large glass of wine, like others have said a little over priced. The hotel is dated and tired but repairs are being made. The hotel is quirky and has so much character I would definitely stay again and would make the most of the extensive grounds and walks.
