A large group of us stayed here last weekend. The bedrooms were very spacious with good en suite facilities. Hotel staff were very friendly and the hotel is in a great situation close to all amenities. We had dinner in the restaurant which was first class, food was excellent and the service was spot on. I telephoned the hotel to get the postcode of the car park and we had no problems finding the hotel - this is different to the postcode on line, hence why people have had difficulty locating ... Second visit and not been impressed either time! Rooms comfortable with 2 double beds but don't expect much in the way of toiletries and other extras you would expect for the price you pay. Meal was nothing special and you have to pay £5 a night for the privilege to park! On the plus side the staff were good at what they do and breakfast was excellent.

Lovely old building with traditional features including a fantastic ballroom. Bedrooms quite airy and plenty of space, clean, though the windows let in a lot of noise and the traffic is quite busy outside. Breakfast pretty standard, good selection and well cooked. Evening meal in the ballroom as part of a conference was very pleasant and food good. Staff all very helpful.

Elegant old building a 10 minute walk from central Sheffield. Not what you would expect from Holiday Inn, its an historic building with grand staircases, tall ceilings and old furnishings. The drapes and carpets were a little old fashioned and worn for our taste, but the bed and the bathroom were modern, clean and comfortable.

Stayed here last night and glad I did. Very easy check-in process, room was large with 2 double beds and spotlessly clean. The staff were very professional and nothing was too much trouble. Didn't use any of the restaurant facilities so can't comment on those. Will definitely stay here again. Thank you!

Room was well furnished and tastefully decorated, Internet access available too. Very close to Ponds Forge Sports Centre and city centre amenities. The building is the Old Railway Hotel and thus is not the modern Holiday Inn you maybe expecting. Try the Holiday Inn next door. Large entrance and wonderful staircase show the past grandeur of this building. Our room on the top floor was on a corner and had two views of the city. Your opinion on this would vary on how you view cities. For us it provided interest and made the room nice and light. Slight slope to floor and creaky floors gave the room character, as did the wonky door frame! Bath... Read more

We had our university student ball at the Royal Victoria and I simply cannot fault it. The staff went out of their way to help us in any way possible to ensure we had a good night, especially Jess who worked with me to organise the event. The hotel itself has a classic charm and was the perfect setting for a bunch of students in ball gowns!

For Ponds Forge, this is an excellent hotel. Only a few mins walk. The bar food was great, and the staff friendly. They went out of their way to accomodate alot of us (24) in their restaurant, but we ordered the bar menu as had alot of kids with us, and the restaurant menu was a bit fancy for them. This hotel is currently undergoing refurbishment and some areas are peopled by workers during the day. Some of the facilities are a little tired but these can be expected to be updated shortly. There were some shortages of meals in the restaurant on the Monday evening but there had been a large event held on the Saturday/Sunday so this could have been the problem. We used this hotel as a base for a few day trips in the Peak District. The hotel is lovely and I assume the rooms have been recently refurbished because they were perfect. Breakfast is the usual buffet style but the breakfast area is very nice. All in all a very nice ambience. The location is ideal if you just want to enjoy the City but Sheffield itself is a perfect base for visits to the Peak District. Myself, my husband and our 2 friends stayed here Saturday (for the nickekback concert). Check in staff very friendly, and directed us to where we needed to be in terms of food and concert. Room was good size for what we needed it. We had only booked a room and weren't planning on meal or breakfast so this review is on room, staff locations basis only. Facilities in room were food, shower really nice, small but if we needed more space or had more time here we would have booked a bigger room. C... Read more

Stayed at this Hotel overnight after the Nickelback concert @ Sheffield Arena. Sat Nav didn't take us directly to the door, but it was simple enough to understand the one way system which you needed to follow to get to the hotel. Staff were polite, friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and tidy and bed comfortable. Overall enjoyed our stay

I booked this hotel via booking.com based on the location, price, look and breakfast being included. We hadn't been to Sheffield for a few years but at the back of my mind, I remembered the hotel. Despite the sat nav telling us we had arrived at our destination, which we obviously hadn't and being able to see the hotel, we had to ask someone how to get to the entrance. If you come in from the Parkway you probably won't have difficulty. The hotel used to be the Royal Victoria Hotel and sat adjac... Read more

We stayed at this hotel for the two night Chatsworth house promotion and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We have stayed at this hotel before, so knew what to expect. As part of the promotion, our room was upgraded and this room was very nice. Remember this is a very old hotel, built in the 1800's, not a modern all glass structure. We had a 3 course meal in the hotel on the first night and this was very good and no more expensive than you would expect to pay in any good restaurant. We also had a dri... Read more

I stayed here with my mum and two youngest children in order to visit an elder child at Sheffield university. I was worried about finding the hotel but it was simple thanks to sat nav! Receptionist was very friendly and offered to get us a dinner reservation . Our intention was to walk to town but it was a little to far for my mother, across busy roads. We opted for a bar meal in the lounge. Service was slow but that was ok as we were enjoying our beautiful surroundings. The food was ok when it ... Read more

A quaint hotel with a great deal of charm but there are signs of age. Was told it is going to be refurbished and changed to a Crowne Plaza in the next 11 months. We stayed in room 310 and although it was nice that the window was virtually floor to ceiling it did not have any guard rail so in my opinion very dangerous for anybody staying there with small children.

I stayed in the hotel for 3 nights whilst away with work. I turned up around 7 o'clock in the evening and the lady at the reception was very welcoming and polite. Once I got to my room I unpacked and headed down to the bar. I briefly searched online about the history of the building but resulted in asking the young barmaid what she knew about it. She was happy to answer my questions and had a great knowledge of the buildings history. The building was being done up during my visit so a lot of t... Read more

Stayed here for 2 nights whilst visiting friends in Sheffield. The hotel is really old and grand with a modern extension. The staff were lovely and very helpful. I felt like I was staying in something more than just a Holiday Inn. The decor was lovely, the rooms had really high ceilings and period features. The breakfast room was grand too. I felt like a maid in a cap should be sweeping the fireplace and a butler would soon appear to announce breakfast, it gave me that kind of feeling :))... Read more

11 of us in 4 rooms, age range from 4-70 and all left happy. Staff were friendly and helpful at all times. Our family room was of a generous size and although there was an air of stale tobacco it was still pleasant. The breakfast was lovely and the choice offered suited all of us. We would definitely stay here again!

I recently stayed at the Holiday Inn Hotel in central Sheffield. What looks like an old Victorian hotel is well placed for easy access to the centre of the city. The room was small but comfortable and clean. The bathroom recently upgraded with a nice large bath and separate shower. Good quality towels were provided together with bath robes. The hotel is obviously undergoing a progressive upgrade with the main staircase currently being renovated. The large (and mostly empty) bar seemed cold so I... Read more

Stayed in October 2016. The reception area of the hotel was very nice and I had high expectations. Unfortunately these did not last long. We entered our room and was greeted with a smell that I could only describe as mouldy cabbages. The room was dark and tiny with absolutely no view. The window had been frosted over so you could not see anything outside. I think this had been done as there was a building right in front of the window. I requested another room and this was granted. The new room ... Read more

Spend 1 night here at the weekend, very obvious hotel sitting up on a hill and it does look very impressive especially when light up BUT it took some getting to. Aim for the Hilton then turn up the slip road opposite past the Holiday Inn Express. Large parking area which you have to pay for, very friendly and efficient meet and greet, we upgraded to an executive room which was lovely with v comfy bed. Breakfast was v busy but they have an egg station and the food was very good. So overall we wou... Read more

I was put in the hotel due to a week long work course so every cost was covered for me, however I have to say I was impressed with the hotel. A beautiful old building with history, but has enough of a modern feel so it didn't feel quite so dated! My room was excellent. Functional for my needs so I'm not too concerned there. Maybe a bit cluttered for me personally with 2 chairs and a tables plus a desk for a computer. But that's personal preference so I'm not marking down on such pettiness. Th... Read more

Stayed for one night here, the Rooms are in need of improvement, they need to be brought up to modern standards, furniture is dated but saying that its goes well with the style of building, I personally would want a more trendy, chic interior room but it would suit the older more concerning clientele. The hotel itself is very clean, the food quality is excellent, the house keeping and kitchen staff do a very good job. The Gardens are absolutely lovely to walk around and the views looking acros... My son stayed here this weekend and arrived home to find he hadn't got his new expensive headphones after competing at ponds forge. A phone call to the hotel and they rang back within a short time to say staff had found them in the room and would post them straight back to him. This is great customer service and I know the York swim team will continue to use this hotel,as they always have, because of the excellent treatment they receive. Arrived late to hotel and there was an evening event going on so very busy in reception area but as always with holiday inn was dealt with quickly and efficiently. We had a room on the 3rd floor and arriving at 10:30pm all the radiators were still blasting so it was very hot. The only was to cool the room down was to open the window (which was restricted so only a small amount of air change) and to be honest then it made the room noisy with outside traffic. Anyway, the whole hotel was reall... Read more

Booked this hotel for a function that we were due to attend in the city centre ,did not disappoint large clean room, helpful staff who quickly sorted a problem with the room keys. It seemed to be used by a few business people and at the price we paid you can see why, about 5-10 minutes taxi ride to city centre . Can't comment on evening meals as we ate elsewhere, the breakfast was buffet affair which catered for all tastes, definitely not the worst I've experienced. If you're looking for a good ... Read more

We stayed here as part of a Rambling Club weekend away in October 2016, with over 50 of us being accommodated. This was the first time that our club had used the Holiday Inn chain and I was a little anxious before we arrived in that I associated our accommodation with the "Express" franchise. From the moment we entered to receive complimentary coffee and tea to when we left two days later, the hotel did us proud. Rooms were excellent, food was great (Breakfasts and dinner), staff were superb. T... Read more

We stayed here whilst flat-hunting in Sheffield two months ago, and as a fairly common hotel chain it is exactly what one would expect from any Holiday Inn, Travelodge, or Premier Inn. Rooms are costly, but staff are friendly. The whole building is mass produced to lack any kind of non-commercialised character, though at least you can count on it being clean. The room was bland, comfortable, and suited our needs despite being far more expensive than it should have been for what we received. The... Read more
