Nina, the landlady, runs a fabulous Pub/Restaurant/Hotel. Very nice room, great food and very nice Badger Beers. It is also dog friendly. The building is thatched and part is 16th century. It is situated just outside the lovely town of Shaftesbury.

I stayed for one pre-booked night and my expectations were met. The contact from the owner was within seconds of walking in, I was shown the room and left to collect my belongings. Perfect; I don't like a fuss but was left feeling I could have had more help if I needed it! The room was a first floor double en-suite overlooking the A30 which is quite quiet in terms of volume and noise. The traffic did not disturb me at night. Access to the accommodation is by way of the room key from the car park... Read more

Stayed here for three nights what a place plenty of parking a nice thatched pub room was number 5 it was clean and well decorated. All the staff were helpful and friendly and so we're the locals. It was also nice to see that dogs were aloud in the pub it's self. I have more work in this area so I will be booking to stay here. Oh and yes the food was outstanding and not that dear a lot of other places should take note what a place.

Staff was very friendly, food very good, and the place is lovely. Highly recommended .. We had lunch , and tried the house specials (very tasty Asian Styr), and a Omelette . Both plates were very good, and prices very reasonable. The pub is very warm, half of it is a traditional stone house and the other a more spacious dinning room. We liked it very much ..

The only thing that spoilt our stay was that we were kindly issued with two extra towels on request because we could not dry them on the cold radiators we were not informed there was a five pound charge per extra towel. When we came to pay the bill on check out they had added ten pounds to our bill. We refused to pay as we were not informed and felt it was slightly ludicrous to charge for two extra towels.

Stayed here overnight in a very comfortable clean room, the staff were very welcoming and friendly we had lunch and breakfast which was very good and reasonable priced, they also welcome dogs with open arms which is great to see, dogs also get their own special doggy breakfast. I would definitely stay again and recommend it to my family and friends especially if they want to take their dog.

stayed overnight on B&B basis. Beds could do with mattress toppers as we thought the beds were uncomfortable. Breakfast pretty average too, have had far nicer elsewhere and the waitress could hardly be bothered to serve us.

We had lovely night stay for one night and would have stayed longer if a cottage had not been previously booked. Great food, friendly staff and we returned to have drinks and a meal couple of times as we were staying close by.

Haven't been for a while as food wasn't great before so thought we'd try again. My dado edited cod loin in Parma ham which was tiny and dried up and plonked on a mountain of French fries - not worth the £14 we paid. I ordered the vegetarian sharing board which was rather unpleasant. The pitta bread was nice but the hummus was tangy, the mozzarella was funny tasting and the vegetables were tasteless. Bit disappointing and again not worth prices charged. I'd say the menu needs work - we struggle... Read more

Situated on the main road in the centre of Ludwell, this pub/hotel is an attractive venue. My wife and I called for a bar snack lunch time. It was quiet (it was only 12:15pm) and we were greeted by an attractive and friendly bar maid. The interior was tastefully decorated and had a clean fresh smell. I don't know why, but the interior arrangement reminded me of the SS Great Britain (another great day out in Bristol by the way) The menu was varied and we went for the ploughmans lunch. Ghastly, the food is so bland I would advise just don't go. If you can't avoid it, take your own salt! It would also appear to be Mecca for daytime drinkers and 'job-seekers'. If your driving past, keep going! The decor in the bedrooms reminded me of a gritty student flat, particularly the economy bathroom suites!

The Grove Arms is located on the main road that goes through town. There is plenty of parking in the back. The outside of their building has many beautiful flowers blooming right now, they are gorgeous. The food and service was superb! My partner had fish and chips which was delicious and I had vegetable curry. The curry had a great taste, it was spicy (just in case you don't like spicy). Excellent experience, really lovely. The prices are reasonable - highly recommended.

My wife and I have just had a great time at this lovely pub where the staff are fantastic (all the bar staff are well trained young ladies),the food is beautiful and varies from day to day for the specials board. The pub dog is an 11 month old black lab who adores everyone. The manager, Nina and her staff will welcome you with open arms and will go the extra mile to make sure your stay is a bit special. Don't miss the Steak night on every Thursday. Well recommended and we will be back later thi... Read more

The Grove arms was the perfect place to start our holiday. We all enjoyed our stay here. Nice, quiet and clean rooms. A relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. We enjoyed both breakfast and dinner here and the food was excellent. The staff is pleasant and smiling. This place get our highest recommendation.

I stayed here as it suited my purpose and was close to my morning arrangements. It is a lovely looking Inn, very Olde Worlde to look at, with a not too modern looking interior. The staff were excellent, from the friendly greeting, to showing me the room, and the lady even offered to carry my luggage upstairs for me! The room itself was quite small for a single, in fact the bathroom (only with shower) was almost as big as the room itself. I was given fresh milk in a flask - not the pre pack p... Read more

So friendly, helpful and relaxed. We popped in for a coffee and to ask if we could leave our car while we went cycling. Only too pleased to oblige and offer to fill our water bottles without us even asking. The brownies were stunning - rich, creamy, strawberry garnish. Coffee great. Beers look good and the menu. I want o go back and stay. Lovely area too.

We visited the Grove arms as a stop over for a meal on route to the south coast from North Devon. We were a party of six. The three bar staff were delightful and very accommodating. There was an excellent menu choice and the mains and deserts were very good as was the service.

We recently stayed at the Grove Arms, very disappointed with the room, very noisy, bad mattress, a long way short of standards in the rest of Shaftesbury and surrounding area. Evening meal was nice but breakfast was undercooked, service very slow and minimal cereal/juice that was not topped up.

The Grove Arms has nice food, friendly staff and a good atmosphere with great, comfortable seating. It's good for a meal or snack, however choices are quite limited for vegeterains and some children who aren't keen on steak and burgers, Overall, this is a nice but the menu could definitely use improvement- I have only eaten dinner here a few times though, so I'm not sure about the quality of breakfast and lunch. (In my opinion, the previous chef and the one before that had a better menu). Stil... Read more

After recently moving to this area, we were recommended this pub by another local. Have eaten here on several occasions. Huge servings and beautifully cooked food. Great value for money. Nina the landlady is a diamond, can't do enough to help. All her staff are exceedingly polite and helpful. Cute terrace garden at the back. Lovely inside too.

A friendly and warm welcome awaited and the venue lived up to most website expectations. Rooms clean and well maintained - only feedback was a slight doggy smell on first entry but aware this was a fully dog friendly environment. This did not spoil our stay in anyway ! Food good and well cooked with a reasonable menu range. Overall a very friendly, cosy environment with nice staff. Would recommend to others.

Good food, could be improved, for example, the home made pie was just a bowl of steak, mushroom and ale with a pastry lid. A 'stand alone' individual pie or slice of pie, with a top and bottom would be a real improvement. Also, the Eton Mess was made with hard catering type meringue nests when it could be improved by the chef making his own meringue, preferable with a squidgy middle! Having said that the meat in the pie was tender, tasty and plenty of it with lovely gravy. The Eton Mess had lot... Read more

We needed to stop somewhere for lunch near Shaftesbury and found the Grove Arms via google. We booked over the phone the day before we went. This was very smooth. The pub is really easy to find and is on a fairly quiet stretch of the A30 in Ludwell. The pub has an excellent car park with easy access from car to front door by ramp or steps. The food was simply amazing. Beautifully cooked, plentiful, nicely presented and very fairly priced. A good selection of drinks of course. Service was prompt ... Read more

This is the second time we have stopped off at this pub when travelling back from Somerset to Surrey. The first time we stopped was because the pub looked inviting from the road, and there was a large car park at the rear where we could easily park. The staff gave us a warm welcome when we walked in. It was a monday lunchtime so fairly quiet, even though there were a few other diners in there too. The pub inside is fairly traditional, with the restaurant tables on one side and the bar and tab... The Grove Arms after the fire has been rebuilt and kept the old feel to that of original building After reading reviews about the noise from the road we packed earplugs. Was expecting some noise as it is on the side of an 'A' road, but honestly can say the road noise was minimal and we did not need our earplugs. Be mindful in the bathroom as it has a large... Stayed here during August. Room was ok and quiet (at the back overlooking the car park). Bathroom wasn't great and needs updating, wasn't very clean and the shower hose was broken (working but cover was badly split). Overall we felt that £120 a night was overpriced for the standard of accommodation.

I had a lovely time over my two night stay. The team were exceptionally friendly, with Nina (the owner), being very helpful and letting me play with Buddy, the lab. I was inundated with offers of tummy tickles, both by the team and by the very friendly locals. Being equidistance from Taunton and Ringwood, and having checked Trip Advisor The Grove Arms apperared an ideal place to meet my Brother for liunch - we were certainly not dissapointed. The welcome was as warm as the open fire on that dreary December day. An inexpensive special menu was on offer but we all selected from the al la carte - we were in the Christmas mood. We all four selected the shared fish started board. An ample serving of scampi, smoked salmon and prawn cocktail, crusty baguet... Read more
