No lift to bedroom Very noisy overlooking main road/ traffic lights. Stayed two nights no replenishment of toiletries poor selection of tea & coffee in room. Very disappointed overall and expensive £9.50 for glass of red wine! You have to step into bath for a shower not good if elderly or frail/disabled as no hand rails. Breakfast excellent though with friendly and helpful staff.

We stayed last February and enjoyed the excellent location, close to the Cathedral and shops. There was a relaxed feel about the place and a nice open fire in the reception area made it comfortable to lounge about in after our day sightseeing. The only downside was that some of the decor was a bit tired (landing and room). We had an evening meal on one night which we enjoyed. Despite the menu being rather uninteresting looking the quality and presentation of the meal was good as was the service.... Read more

Venue was well presented for a celebration lunch in a private room, The staff were attentive without being intrusive, and made an effort to prepare the outside seating on the first sunny, warm, day of spring! A surprise touch was the "congratulations" dessert. The food was nicely served, well cooked and tasty. The effort we made in pre-planning with your staff was well worth it.

I have stayed at three of the "main" hotels in Salisbury centre and the White Hart wins hands down. The biggest advantage to the White Hart is off street parking at the hotel. I have found, even with rooms looking onto the main street, not having any issue with noise and thought the room quite fine for what I paid and the toilet facilities good. The wifi was strong and had good throughput. There are no lifts at this hotel and that could be an issue for some for the staircase can be a challenge a... Read more

Upon arrival we were able to park the car easily in the hotel car park (although this is not free!). The welcome was friendly. The room was lovely although the bathroom would benefit from a refurbishment and some of the furniture was looking tired. The one problem with the room was that it was so hot! We did try to turn down the heating but without success. The bar area was lovely and was manned by the wonderful Tim who could not do enough to help. He even knocked up a late supper for us o... Booked a room for my husband's birthday as we wanted to go away for the weekend and spend some time together. The overall experience wasn't great. The room on the second floor overlooking the main road was extremely hot, dark and noisy so we didn't sleep very well. There was no complimentary water in the room (minibar empty) - we were charged £5 at the bar for 2 bottles of still water!!! Salisbury - yes, Mercure White Hart Hotel - definitely no.

Having booked a prestige room for a special couple of days away we were very disappointed to be shown to a very small room with an ordinary double bed. The manager was very helpful as were all the staff, but as the hotel was full there was nothing that could be done. A nice free bottle of wine with dinner helped to ease the disappointment and the next day we were moved into the type of room we had expected with lots of space and a super king bed. Bar man Worked very hard, but as the bar area got busy during the evening he needed help as service became very slow. Good thing there was a bar opposite the hotel where we could frequent during the busy period. (Although this lost the hotel bar money, as a number of other residents where also there for the same reason). Reception, cleaners breakfast staff and 1 bar man excellent hard workers. Will be back. Booked our room on line to get favourable rates. We then spoke to hotel staff requesting for a room that we had stayed in November 2015, who were only too pleased to accommodate our request. Jonathan at the FO recognised us since our last visit and as always was very helpful and ensured we had a good stay. We will definitely visit Salisbury again and stay at this very friendly hotel

This is a dated hotel but with charming areas like restaurant or secret garden, the bathroom is quite small, but it was good for us. It is close to the marvellous cathedral and the city center. There is a rear cark park (7GBP) This hotel has two floors but it has not lift, we went for a very good offer because the normal price is very high. Good free wifi and fresh fruit at the reception. This was one of the most relaxing, comfortable stays I have had in a hotel. The building itself is beautifully decorated, with a lovely courtyard garden for al fresco dining - something we took advantage of on our first night. It is very conveniently situated for the centre of Salisbury and has excellent parking facilities. I have stayed in the Hotel on several occasions over the last 30 years and very little has changed. The standard rooms are small and lacking in modern facilities, it is quite a struggle to get to the top floor for over 80's and the restaurant is average.

An enjoyable stay: the bedroom was small and well appointed, apart from a rather shabby armchair and noisy fans outside. The view was restricted, over a roof which had not been swept for too long. This was a close thing between three and four stars - the hotel is a bit vanilla and four stars conveys a sense of being special, which this place is not. Great service, comfortable room, easy walk to shops, cathedral etc, parking provided cheaply, great food in the evening and a fabulous buffet breakfast. This was quality food at a very reasonable price. We wished we'd been there for cream tea too - the menu made it look sumptuous. They have a pretty courtyard to eat in if the weather's good too. Plenty of choice for vegetarians and happy to amend dishes to make them suitable.

We held our 25th wedding anniversary party here with 80 guests. The whole event was handled really well by Amanda Dolan taking much stress out of the organising. Great menu choices for our guests. On the night it was perfect lots of staff constantly refilling water and seeing to everyone's needs all food was delicious and piping hot. Many guests have commented about the high standard of food and service. We stayed in the bridal suite which was a huge room and balcony very comfortable huge bed! I... Read more

We stayed here for 2 nights for a short break. I booked as we are in the Accor rewards program and so got a discount - I didn't look too hard at alternatives - so we had no expectations or preconceptions. The hotel was very good: - Comfy clean room - Good bathroom, decent shower, plenty of towels - Tea and coffee making stuff as you'd expect - Biscuits! - Iron, ironing board and hairdryer all present and correct, and decent ones - Free fresh crunchy tasty apples on reception! The only sl... Read more

A great hotel - which, despite there being a wedding party going on, was lovely and quiet. The staff could not do enough to help you. Had an amazing meal in the restaurant, where the waiter was very attentive and helpful. Smiles all round - well done!

We stayed here for two nights on our recent trip to the UK. We wanted a place outside of London to pick up a car rental. It is a solid mile from the train station walking with luggage. The staff are super friendly. The hotel is close to the city centre and the cathedral. There is a M&S food hall and loads of second hand stores within walking distance which is nice. The breakfast was good with a hot buffet bar with everything you would want plus a menu with several cook to order options. Fresh fr... Read more

Staying for a short one night business stopover the service was faultless. I found the hotel to be a little 'awkward' with main doors that are difficult to open with the usual bag and laptop case, bathroom layout also felt awkward and it almost feels as if it needs some TLC throughout the hotel. Although I accept it's a beautiful old hotel, most of the rooms are in a fairly modern block which definitely needs updating and modernising. I would stay again as, as I say, the service was excellent an... Read more

We booked this hotel for a two night anniversary trip and paid extra for a Privilege room. However, we were very disappointed as it was shabby with a carpet that was threadbare. In several places. Furniture was chipped and bathroom not up to scratch with an extremely noisy fan. However, recetption staff were very good as were waiting staff. Breakfast was excellent and dinner good. Housekeeping not efficient as tea tray not restocked or bathroom toiletries of mini bar

Visited for a one night stay for a family celebration. Took advantage of the online check in a few days prior to visit. This was worthwhile as when we arrived at reception it was just the case of giving us our room key. Stayed in a 1st floor room and although no lift we were offered help with our luggage. Room facilities were excellent with decent hairdryer and ironing board. Beds were very comfortable with good quality linen and decent pillows. The bathroom facilities were also good the only... Our first time eating at this hotel (we didn't have a room) as part of a small group function. To be honest I didn't expect a great meal for the price (£25 for 3 courses) but was pleasantly surprised by good quality food served quickly and politely even though it was a busy Saturday night. The tempura prawns were hot and crispy, the roast beef nicely pink and not rubbery and a very acceptable creme brulee for dessert. Well done to all concerned, we will return.

I stayed here for 6 nights in September as part of a walking tour. The room was very good-sized (solo traveler) and bathroom was fine, altho the toilet flush was slightly odd and did not work the same each time, lol. Press the flush button or press and hold? Sometimes it flushed, sometimes it gushed, sometimes not. Since I was traveling solo it didn't really matter. I did not report it in the flurry of leaving, but probably should have. The biggest drawbacks were that the carpets were ripp... Read more

Although we didn't actually stay overnight here the whole Hotel looked inviting. Had a tea for two experience, the first time at doing this. The staff were wonderful, the tea was divine, service excellent. We were not rushed in anyway, cakes were delicious. Would certainly book again for a special occassion, or just a treat.

We enjoyed a 40th reunion for 26 people here. The room was very well laid out and it had been easy to discuss prior preparations with Hotel staff, who were very helpful and not overbearing. A very tasty lunch, prebooked to assist everyone's planning, was served hot and all enjoyed their well presented, and tasty, chicken, fish or vegetarian meals.

Booked by work for 5 nights, the room was clean and the bed comfy. £10 breakfast was worthwhile and cheaper than most local shops. Didn't use in house laundryman - found a local laundry mat that was a third of the price and also included ironing. Staff were help and always nice. Free wifi was good with no speed issues. Car parking spaces were plentiful however on the small side. Location was central to the market square and the majority of local shops. I would stay again for business or p... Read more

We stayed here in a Privilege Room when visiting Salisbury for a friend's wedding. Lovely hotel, attentive and helpful staff, and a brilliant location. Our room was spacious, quiet, and spotlessly clean. The reason for giving the hotel 4/5 may seem small, but was quite significant for us. At breakfast, the choice of 'background music' was completely inappropriate. The staff had chosen to put on a local radio station at a very loud volume. The thumping music was bad enough, but the talking and co... Read more

We had our wedding at the hotel which was organised by Sarah. It was prefect, Sarah took care of everything. And the day was run superbly. Cannot speak highly enough of Sarah and her team. Although we don't plan to get married again, we would definitely stay at the hotel again.

A night at the White Hart was a comfortable and relaxing experience. Located a few minutes' walk from the Cathedral Close, it is ideally situated for tourists or business travellers alike. The staff were helpful and friendly, and the room quiet and comfortable. However, the dim lighting was such that it was almost impossible to read in bed. The bathroom, however, was very well lit and equipped with toiletries and soft towels. Dinner was surprisingly good, although there were only two other ... Read more

Good, better than middle of the road hotel with very helpful staff. But watch out for the dangerous step in the lounge bar floor. We saw one lady fall and injure herself today and know of several other people who've tripped over the same step. It's been a hazard for at least a couple of years and the management apparently can't be bothered to fix it, turning into a wheelchair ramp, for example. Maybe an H+S report or a court case will encourage them to do something? In the meantime, the fo... Read more

We decided on this Hotel after previously staying at the Rose & Crown. A big plus point was the buffet style full English breakfast, served in a very clean room with a garden view. I really must compliment the breakfast team for an excellent service. The check in/out was smooth and efficient. Our second floor room overlooked the main road, but the double glazing sound proofed it. It was clean and so was the bathroom. The heating in the room worked perfectly. They could do with a few more power ... Read more

I travel with my kid and just stay inWhite Hart for a night, and visit Stonehenge next morning. This hotel is traditional UK small to mid size hotel but room is big enough for two adults. Everything is petty in place just the carpet is not clean. This hire has come with a parking which is convenience for car travelers but it is not free. Also the hotel breakfast is nice but cost 10pounds each which I thought was included during booking with

We stayed one night. Our room was plain. The carpet was past its best, but the bed was good. The bathroom was very clean although the toilet seat was broken. We chose the hotel because I have difficulty walking any great distances, and it had its own car park. We were unaware that there was an additional fee of £6.50 to park overnight and when I mentioned this to the receptionist she told me that it was clearly indicated on the on-line booking form. It isn't. Breakfast was very good but we won'... Read more

Having used The Mercure chain often we found this one to be well below their normal standard. The reception staff could not have been more helpful and were well informed and polite. The room was poor. badly lit making reading virtually impossible. The bathroom was very very small, dirty and tired. The shower was not possible to use as the seal was ineffective causing water to leak all over the floor. Breakfast was ok but coffee was burnt. Can't remember the last time I was given burnt coffee like... Read more

Stayed for 2 nights, staff were friendly. Breakfast was very good . Room was very tired, the curtains were badly damaged, but the bed was comfy enough. Was not expecting car parking charges, as seemed to be free on street at night. Nice view of the Cathedral. Communal areas all seemed nice, but could do with a bit of TLC. There is no lift.

......the decor in the hotel generally and in our room in particular was very tired and in need of an overhaul as was the furniture, although the bed was very comfortable. The duty receptionist was excellent in handling a couple of problems we had with the room. A great location though which was a real bonus on a short stay.

Stayed with a friend for a weekend break. This place is clean and central but pretty bland and basic. The receptionist asked us the same question about our luggage 3 times! She clearly didn't actually listen to our response and came across as just "going through the motions". Room was hot and didn't have the best nights sleep. Toilet roll kept coming off the wall.... However - was central and good for dumping bags and getting to the shops.

We stayed just one night to visit the town and cathedral and this hotel is perfectly located for both. We booked a privilege room which seemed good value, being reasonably sized with a table and seats plus tea/coffee and a free soft drinks mini bar. The room was clean, quiet and comfortable. The hotel is a bit worn as commented by others but not to any great extent and we sort of like a bit of reality. Excellent for short or long stay in Salisbury, parking the car in the car park everything within walking distance, not driving again until departure. Hotel was satisfactory and value for money. Couple of minor issues, bar closed early on a Saturday night and had to wait for breakfast one morning-no tables available.
