We arrived early and was greeted with a friendly face at reception. Our room was not ready but we went in the restaurant for lunch and they kindly did us an omelette which was not on the light snack menu. The restaurant staff especially Anthony were very friendly and obliging and nothing was too much trouble. In all we had a wonderful two night stay. The views from the restaurant were very soothing and pleasing watching the wildlife of the river We would definately go again in the future.Very conven... A completely superb venue for my cousin's wedding reception. A perfectly located, beautiful historic hotel; oak beams, leaded windows, antique furniture and quirky ornaments hanging from the walls. The staff were friendly and so very helpful, delicious food, especially breakfast. My room was immaculate, spacious and well serviced, with breath taking views of the River Avon. A special mention must go to the front of house manager, Sara Shepherd- Jones who's knowledge of the history of the hotel ... Read more

We arrived early, before check in. The friendly front desk staff checked with housekeeping and got us in our room right away. Very nice room, spacious, clean, nice shower. Beautiful view from our room towards the river. Dining room staff was friendly and attentive. Food and drink were very good. Plenty of items on the menu to choose from. They even stayed open a little late for us. Overall, a very pleasant experience. The staff and view are the most memorable parts of the hotel.

This from the front looks very English and inviting. I had my elderly father with me and unfortunately their showers bar 2 are all in the bath tub. For elderly people this can be difficult. Apart from that it was a clean and a professionally run hotel not your little guest house down the road. If you want a quaint english experience this is not for you. The breakfast was basic. If we wanted a cooked meal it was extra. Sorry guys but expected more for the price I paid. My father had a lovely... Read more

Although usually described as a 13th century inn, my very limited knowledge of architectural history makes me question that description. There may well have been an inn here in C13, but I suspect that Historic England is more accurate in describing the buildings facing the street as 'C16 modernised'. In fact I think that two separate buildings have been absorbed into what is described as the 'heritage' part of the old. Whatever the truth, this range of buildings is very old and the timber fra... A long weekend away from London, beautiful setting, on the River Avon. Spacious room looking out onto the river. Very attentive friendly staff. We organised a Punting trip up the river with a bottle of fizz with good food and Tranquillity itself. Have totally chilled and will definitely come back. Phil and Lorraine

The hotel is situated across the meadows of the river that flows past its grounds and is a ten minute walk from the cathedral. The rooms are of a good size and the room we had during our stay overlooked the river and the cathedral. Well appointed with good storage space for luggage, a fair sized bathroom, a couple of easy chairs and a table as well as a desk, along with tea and coffee facilities as well as a coffee maker in the room made our stay a good one. The bed was comfortable. There is... Read more

Lovely back water hotel, found by using 'Great little breaks' We were given a super big room overlooking the river and cathedral and they downstairs ones even have their own little sitting out area. Lovely helpful staff, good food and superb breakfasts. Just 5 mins from the cathedral and centre walking. Couldn't fault it . Will take dogs but charge a lot so we didnt take ours but not a very suitable for dogs, anyway

Lovely large suite with an excellent bathroom. On the whole very attentive and professional and friendly staff. The backdrop with the river is both stunning and very relaxing yet it's close enough to stroll into the centre for some reatil therapy or a visit to the cathedral or open garden tour. The afternoon cream tea hit the spot and the breakfast was varied, delicious and plentiful. This is a place my sister and l will visit again and agian when we are in the area.

We have stayed here several times it is close to the cathedral and town centre . From outside it looks quaint and relatively small but it is a bit of a tardis. It has a large car park. The rooms are very large with a big bathroom with bath and high powered shower, also included are nice toiletries and tea making facilities. The restaurant has a good menu and the food is excellent . We also found all the staff very helpful and professional. All in all every stay has been a pleasure.

It does well those things you need for an overnight stay. Comfortable rooms, free wifi, a good size car park, friendly and efficient staff. Everywhere is within a fairly easy and pretty walk. The main building itself is very old which also adds real character.

Just stayed for long weekend. Hotel comfortable would like better description on website of what is available . We were pleased that there was hot cooked breakfast on offer Saturday /Sunday's and plenty of it as you helped yourself this is far better than just continental which is acceptable during the week .We had ground floor executive room which was large and comfortable overlooking river. Felt that tea making facility could have been more generous as was not enough milk for 2 people. Ate i... Read more

We came here based on the advice of friends who had stayed here previously. The view at the back of the hotel is excellent, so peaceful and beautiful along the river. The indoor dining room is also very nice. We were a party of six so we made a reservation. They tried to fit us in at a time when we would get good service and they did - it was excellent. Staff had an excellent sense of humour enhancing our dining experience. It was Sunday so we all chose roast beef. The food was excellent and cer... Read more

Any hotel in such a beautiful setting will attract custom just because of it's location or it may be especially handy for locals (walking distance from offices or easy parking ) & thus may pay less attention to basic hospitality issues. This could easily be the case at the Rose & Crown & whilst there are some temporary imperfections either beyond the managements control or under review this lovely establishment delivers excellent value & delightful unfussy service. Friendly staff nice rooms. We arrived early for a planned trip to Stonehinge they allowed us an early check in even as the room was still being cleaned. We got up to the room met the maid (also our waitress at dinner). She was a delight, we talked of Stonehinge (that old pile of rock she and her mates used to dance on at night in their wilder youth) and the concerns of some of the staff that the hotel may be haunted. We were invited to find her in the morning before we checked out to see some of... Read more

Me and my husband stayed in room 29 which had a beautiful view onto the river Avon and was in the 20th century part of the hotel. The hotel was well presented and has a lovely outside seating area just by the river. The rooms were spacious and included an iron and ironing board- very handy after a long journey! My only criticism was that on arrival we were told there was a private function going on so we could not use the bar area. The receptionist was very helpful and got us some drinks for u... Read more

It's a perfect place (geographically) to be when on your way to the west counties It's a very old building, but with all the things you need from a good hotel. There was a mistake made in regards to the planning: two double rooms instead of a double and a twin, but that was quickly solved. Restaurant is good, fine choice and a lovely sit on the terrace along the river.

All the staff were very attentive. We were going to a Wedding that had its reception at the hotel. My wife and I did not have button hole flower. I asked reception at 8:45am if they could arrange a button hole flower for us by 11:00 am. The receptionist said yes. We received the flowers as we came out from breakfast at 9:30am. That is service at its best and summed up our experience of this hotel. Good food and we had a very enjoyable stay at this hotel.

After I had booked this hotel for a night (via my usual third party booking site), I noticed on the Legacy Hotels web site that the organisation actually CHARGES 7p a minute to telephone them to make a reservation. I find this hard to believe -- even harder to stomach. Not that I very often call a hotel to book, but the principle of charging customers to make a purchase just leaves me speechless. On the positive side, I can't speak highly enough about the front line staff at the hotel. The r... Read more

Had an overnight stay here on Sunday. Very welcoming person on reception and an excellent ground floor room with doors opening out on to the water front. Arrived late so decided to eat at the hotel and dinner was very good. Reception staff in the morning also very helpful and breakfast was of good quality. Can highly recommend the hotel for its location and its facilities and staff. We will return.

My husband and I stayed here for 1 night to attend a 50th birthday party in Wallop which is 20 minutes away. The hotel building, decor and grounds are beautiful, on a river and very near Salisbury Cathedral which is just a few minutes walk away. The decor is stunning, it has a unusual layout in that many of the rooms (not all) are on a corridor which is at a split level, so the rooms are either up or down a few steps, not an entire floor up or down. The bed was possibly the most comfortable I've... Read more

It has been over 30 nyears since I last visited the Rose and Crown as a simple pub by the River Avon at the back of Salisbury Cathedral. It has changed! Loveely hotel with a tranquil aspect over the river. Comfortable King Size beds, airy dining room and a terrace where life can slow down and relax as the Avon drifts by.
