My boyfriend took me to Howard's house for dinner for a belated valentines meal which did not disappoint! On arrival you order drinks in the lounge area which has a lovely open fire whilst you look at the menu. We had already decided to have the tasting menu. We were then seating in the dining room which is small but intimate and cosy. The tasting menu is 8 courses each the right size to ensure you have enough room to finish every course! The chef uses local produce and creates a menu full of ... Read more

A friend and I booked to visit Howard's House for a relaxed afternoon tea to enable us to have a proper catch up. We were welcomed and shown to our table in the lounge, once we had ordered our tea and had our cake stand delivered we were left to our own devices. Everything tasted divine - yoghurt and rhubarb to start, three varieties of sandwich taking into account our dietary requirements, warm scones with plenty of cream and jam, chocolate tarts, raspberry mousse and cherry cakes to finish. ... This is the second time we've stayed at Howard's House Hotel, and the warmth of the welcome, the comfort of the rooms, the tranquil setting and the delicious food cannot be beaten. The wine list is extensive and the dinner menu imaginative. Meals are cooked to order, so one can't expect speed, but when the food comes it's delicious.

This is a little gem - a beautiful small hotel with a lovely restaurant in a gorgeous setting. Just the place to hide away and escape the rigours of every day life - should you need to. I did not stay in the hotel - having just a lunch booking with a family member, but I am very tempted to book a room and escape into all it offers. Set in a tiny village - a very beautiful village - it is just the place to enjoy a delicious lunch and we were lucky enough to be able to take advantage of one of th... Read more

I went to Howard's House last night with friends for a meal. The weather was nice so we sat out in the garden which is beautifully kept. The whole place is gorgeous, a stunning building and set in a quiet village with an equally beautiful church you just can't beat if for the quintessentially English feel. The food was well presented and very tasty. I cannot rate this hotel highly enough. We didn't stay so I can't rate the rooms but the restaurant was tastefully decorated and very clean and tid... If you are looking for an afternoon treat and/or escape to the country, do yourself a favour and go to Howard's House for their full afternoon tea. But be sure not to eat anything for several hours beforehand so you can do justice to the delicious tea! It starts with a seasonal appetiser, followed by a tower of sandwhiches, cream scones and scrumptious litle cakes and treats. There is a choice of various teas and/or coffee and pots are filled throughout the afternoon. For special occassions you... Read more

We were very fortunate that my Son and Daughter in law to be found this tiny village in the middle of countryside a few miles west of Salisbury and chose this Hotel for their reception. We took over the whole Hotel and all our close family stayed and said how wonderful the rooms were and so comfortable, the location was fabulous the staff were brilliant and the food fantastic. I could not recommend this hotel more

We'd been exploring another local garden and it was too late for lunch but we were famished, so we asked if we could have a few sandwiches and cream tea - the staff could not have been more accommodating. Smoked salmon and cucumber sandwiches, scones that were as light as a feather, clotted and whipped cream with strawberry jam, all were fresh and tasty. Just the ticket! It was a sunny afternoon so sitting outside was very pleasant, however the interior rooms we saw were elegant and light. A sup... Read more

If you live in the city like we do spending a few days in this lovely friendly hotel is perfect! The quiet is noticeable, as is the beautiful location and fabulous food. A really lovely treat to stay here. The hotel is not large but they have thought of everything. Breakfast was one of the best we have had and we had wonderful dinner in the lovely restaurant which has views of the gardens. I watched the herd of cows opposite munching away and wondered at the many birds flying overhead. The setti... Read more

We love Howard's House so much that we took over the entire venue and held our wedding reception there. We stayed for two nights in mid July. The hotel itself is quiet, and beautiful. The little village surrounding it is charming - it's a really nice place to walk, and makes for lovely views from the hotel bedrooms. The service is excellent - our particular thanks to Simon and Nick for making it all feel very personal to us. We've eaten there on nine or 10 different occasions, both for lunc... Read more

Stayed here for 2 nights Dinner Bed & Breakfast in mid August. The hotel is more a gentleman's residence with great style & character. The staff are welcoming and efficient. Food is excellent (especially the tasting menu). The hotel is located beside a small stream in beautiful Teffont Evias. It's a bit like Bourton-on-the-water..but without the people. If you like the Cotswolds, but think it's been spoilt by the number of tourists, then you'll love this place. Peaceful, tranquil and unspoilt. ... Read more

First of all let me discuss the good points. The hotel is a beautiful stone building in delightful gardens with a large terrace where we enjoyed our pre-lunch drinks and caught up with old friends. The atmosphere is calm and unhurried and we had plenty of time in which to peruse the set Sunday lunch menu at £32.50 plus £4 for coffee and petits four. The wine list was not overly long but comprehensive. The disappointment was the actual meal which, whilst being perfectly pleasant was the sort... Read more

We had been looking forward to Sunday lunch at Howard's Hotel, our welcome was pleasant and we enjoyed a pre-lunch drink with lovely views of the garden. The three course lunch choice on offer was reasonable but the actual presentation was lacklustre. The vegetables that accompanied our main meal were disappointing, our roast potatoes were overcooked and hard and overall we rated this meal as average even though we enjoyed our choice of dessert and the nice petit fours that came with our coffee.... We signed up for the Staycation summer break - 3 nights for the price of two. It was superb. It is in the middle of nowhere and well worth discovering! Lovely relaxed atmosphere and superb food. We had the Tasting Menu on arrival and the A La Carte on the other two. It was excellent; well up to top London standards. Our room had a wonderful view of the Church which itself is worth is visit. Couldn't be faulted.
