Lovely historic hotel, situated right on the high Street, beautiful room, if not a tad small, but fine for one night. The food in the Grill was just fabulous and breakfast fresh and plentiful, with lots of choice. There was no parking at the hotel but two very reasonably priced car parks close by. I would definitly recommend this hotel.

Although we live a 5 minute ride from the town of Rye, we wanted our family to join us to celebrate our 50th which took place last October, 2015. They flew in from Ireland and also from different parts of the SE of England. We all stayed overnight in various rooms after our evening celebration meal. We were looked after by the hotel with their usual quality service and exceptional good food, together with. Large choice for breakfast. Great location in the heart of town. Very helpfull staff. Had a very good dinner in the restaurant. Our room,#7 was very intimate but well appointed and fully equipped. As they advise you no on site parking is available but after you drop your bags they provide info for same. We parked at the train station lot a short walk from the hotel,5pds for 48 hours. We would return and would easily recommend.

My wife and I organised a get together for a group we have known for many years. After some issues with the booking the staff were attentive and helpful. I received confirmation emails and kept up to date with the booking of 6 rooms on the mid-week package that included an allowance for dinner on the first night. The rooms were spacious and comfortable and the reception staff friendly. Our group met in the garden for 'greeting drinks' and it was peaceful and protected from the wind. We had ... Read more

Beautifully restored Georgian property. Very cosy with lounge areas, and a good bar. Our room was on the first floor rear in the main building overlooking the rear courtyard. Lovely comfortable room and bathroom, although both a tad on the small size. We stayed for 2 nights in March, we ate their Grill restaurant one night which was very good, food delicious and service very good. It is also worth checking out Globe Marsh Inn for lunch, dinner or drinks, we had lunch there one day and it was de... Read more

Booked the George for my wife's birthday on the 27th may, we had never been to Rye before but had heard good things. We arrived around midday by train and walked to the hotel, only took 5 minutes, we welcomed at reception and informed that our room wasn't quite ready which we were expecting to be the case, so we had a look around the surrounding area to get our bearings. We recently stayed for 3 nights to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary, First impressions were very good, the hotel building is old, cosy, and full of character. Our room was a luxury double and it didn't disappoint, the bathroom was exceptional with a fantastic copper roll top bath. Food at The George is, in my opinion, the best in town. The bar area had a good atmosphere, with friendly bar staff. The whole team work so hard and service is attentive and knowledgeable. We thoroughly enjo... Read more

We visited for my birthday and the hotel is very good and well furnished, our room was lovely and so were the public areas. We particularly like the bar which served good cocktails. We booked dinner in the restaurant and it was appalling. Very little was OK about it and the couple at the next table also experienced terrible problems. It didn't appear that anyone was in charge, waiters didn't know which table they were delivering drinks to, the food was very poor - particularly the pork belly wh... Read more

The staff could not be more friendly and helpful. The food is local and delicious. Its the perfect place for a woman travelling on her own to feel comfortable and cared for. It was my misses birthday and we had booked room 41 it had a massive round bed and a huge bath and amazing shower. The room was a little warm. There is a little courtyard with this room which was lovely. I had organised some flowers to be in the room and they were exquisite. My husband and I visited for our 24th anniversary, and on the whole the stay was lovely. The room was beautifully furnished, the hotel centrally located and the food was wonderful. However...the bedside lamp had bare electrical wires exposed, next to the on/off switch, so in the dark my fingers touched the wires. The lamp wasn't working anyway, so there was an electrical fault. First the positives: The George is perfectly located for visiting Rye and the surrounding area (there is even a place to hire bikes and a lovely bike route to Camber and Lydd). The hotel is full of character and immaculate. The staff are all warm, friendly and helpful. The hotel was busy during our mid week visit but this did not affect service at all. The negatives: Do not under any circumstances stay in Room 2. We wish we had taken the time to trawl through the hundreds of room tips on here to... Read more

Great first contact on arrival - friendly, helpful and great customer service on display. Quirky decor in the room but most important factor: comfy bed and pillows! Drench shower and beautiful smelling toiletries make this a wonderful night(s) stay. Breakfast not quite up to scratch - eggs Benedict with thick sliced ham in a bread roll with sauce? More like a soggy ham sarnie than anything else. That said everything else was perfect

Hotel situation was very central and welcome excellent. Only drawback was a room on the top floor with no lift, and a huge step to get out of the bath/shower which my elderly mum couldn't manage. They did offer to move us so our fault we declined. Would stay again but request a room on a lower floor. Otherwise a lovely room with great views. Restaurant good and reasonably priced.

What sort of place features roast poussin with sumac and molasses, vegetarian mezzes and lamb rump roasted with cumin with herby bulgar, braised aubergine, imam byaldi and tzaziki all on the same menu? Very posh, you might think. A place for foodies and precious gourmets. Well, no. The George in Rye, East Sussex has been there since Elizabethan time so needs no special approval from the gourmet classes. We didn't stay at the hotel but whole heartedly recommend the meals. The main bar the outside patio area as well as the front seating area with cosy couches. Everything was modern great décor ideas, loved the large framed picture of a condensed Rye and the humour portrayed. This hotel is really nice - the breakfast was delicious and served promptly. The staff are nice and the restaurant serves good food. The only negative is that the bar downstairs allows dogs in and my husband is quite allergic so eating there was not overly pleasant. The room was lovely only let down by the cobwebs and dust in the skylights. We would stay again if we were in the Rye area the breakfast and dinner were very good and the slightly quirky layout of the hotel adds to its charm.
