Stayed here for two nights at the end of April for my daughter's reception at the Beetle & Wedge down the road on the Thames. Friendly helpful staff, plenty of parking, nice bar and restaurant. Morning buffet included. Rooms had been updated recently and were very modern with small balcony looking of the Thames. Easy walk into town or across the river to Goring where they are other shops and restaurants.

I stayed in room 42 which was newly renovated- very tastefully decorated, comfy bed, bright and airy with a beautiful view over the Thames. Staff was friendly even if I must say that service at the restaurant was quite slow. Food was very nice though! I missed some yoghurt on the breakfast table otherwise that was fine too! And the surroundings are to die for. Take a run or a walk along the Thames - amazing!

The Swan is on the Thames waterfront on the Streatley side of the Goring Gap. The Boathouse café/deli is a ideal stop prior to walking the Thames Path in either direction, towards Pangbourne/Whitchurch or towards Wallingford. Scenery is enchanting. The Boathouse staff are a happy welcoming crew and the food is interesting and varied. After a stroll along the Thames or around Goring/Streatley the restaurant at the Swan is ideal with a reasonably priced and varied menu. The Swan and Goring/Str... Read more

This appears to be a hotel of 'two halves!' I recognise the hotel is in a period of renovation but I have no idea what determines what room you get!? Old or new! Sadly I got one of the old rooms. I won't say the issues I had initially however what I will say is that it was dealt with swiftly and professionally and I was moved rooms. So thumbs up to the reception staff. Still I was in a very old and tired looking room, room 7 I believe. Old carpets, tired out furniture, groaning floorboards and ... Read more

What a location this marvellous Hotel has, I say marvellous because that's what it is but there it ends. Dreadful service, we waited in one of the lounges overlooking the river for someone to even acknowledge our existence, staff passing to and fro, not one stopping to clear tables full of previously used coffee cups and dirty plates. The result after waiting for twenty minutes or so, we just left and went elsewhere.

We went last Sunday for Sunday lunch and sat outside overlooking the River Thames. The beef was cooked to perfection and a generous portion size (3 slices) served with a large Yorkshire pudding and 4 kinds of veg (including several roast potatoes). The only weak point was the gravy as there wasn't enough of it but once we requested more it came quickly and made the food even more delicious. The service was very good and nothing was too much trouble and done with a smile.Sitting alongside the Tha... This is the sixth year I've stayed on the trot. The staff were friendly as always. My room had everything I needed and was clean, though it was dated - the bathroom in particular worn and scruffy. I know they're renovating rooms and I'm sure the new ones are far nicer. The room was exceptionally hot, even with the window wide open, making it very uncomfortable for the night. Shame to find they didn't have the pool or jacuzzi anymore as this was the main draw. I've only rated it a 2 as unf... Read more

Myself & partner stayed here for one evening in February. The hotel is situated right on the Thames, a beautiful setting & very tranquil. We stayed in the wing of the hotel that had just been renovated. The reception area was quite dated but we was told that the new wing will be the new main reception area. The room itself was very large & spacious. Room was clean & bathroom was particularly of a high standard. Restaurant was very busy which of course is a good thing. Food was very nice - in... The hotel has a separate bar and large dining area with meeting rooms on two levels. There is plenty of parking and a gym and spa. There is plenty todo in the local area and the hotel is ideal as a relaxing base.

Stayed here for one Friday night in June at a cost of £120 B&B for two. Pleasant staff, reasonable food. Restaurant is bright and clean with nice river views. Hotel is showing its age in parts eg wallpaper scuffs in corridors, damp patch on our bedroom wall needed attention/repaint, missing grout in ensuite tiles, very grubby table on the balcony of the room, and noisy water pipes which can disturb neighbouring rooms at night. The location, by the river and in a lovely English village is idyllic. The menu was, however, a bit short and simple. having said that the food and service was very good. we sat in the orangerie / conservatory with a fine view of the Thames - but the party in the other half were a bit noisy and the lack of soft furnishings (curtains and carpet) meant that their noise disturbed us.

Big mugs of great coffee- if we hadn't seen so much before we left home we should have left some room for their yummy looking food. That you on the river is wonderful. Positives: Nice location, generally clean. Negatives: Read below....! Apologies in advance for my frankness, but I feel I simply must issue a poor value warning on this hotel. I would add that as a business traveller this is not my own money, but still feel it necessary to highlight the poor value for money on offer. A long time ago I visited here so it was time to come back. The hotel is in the middle of a major refurb. and we were fortunately given a "new" room which was very well designed with limed wood furniture and flooring and a large bay window overlooking the grounds and river. The toilets did not flush and resembled a public toilet, totally unmaintained, mouldy and dirty. The sink and tiles were black with mould, and did not look like they were regularly cleaned. This is such a shame as the premises seeks to give an upmarket image with upmarket prices but has neglected this essential area. I hope they sort it out.

My partner and I popped in for lunch last weekend and it was amazing! We had a delicious toastie from the deli outside on the river and it was like being in a Mary Poppins film! Quiet but busy with ducks and geese. Staff really friendly and the place was spotless! Sad it's closing for renovation October 2nd but looking forward for dinner there soon!
