This hotel has suffered by fire damage and is in need of some money spent and is due for a total refurb which is a shame as this could be a charming hotel with some great views if it was kept clean and sufficient financial input

We stayed here on a national express coach trip, was no Christmas feel at all to the hotel food was bad but if it wasn't for the staff that tried to do there best in a run down hotel it would of been worse, it was really cold in the restaurant no other guests except for the coach party, hopefully I will never return,it was that cold I went to bed in my hat

I read a lot of reviews so had alot of hesitations. Me and my family came here with a national Holiday break (Bath & Oxford). Think the guests on this trip were the only ones here. We arrived late evening, grabbed our keys and went to the room, rooms were spacious, warm and everything seemed fine. We went down to tea which was buffet style. Food for me and my party was near on perfect. No complaints at all. Staff seemed short and rushed, but they did a great job! Throughout the night a fire alar... Read more

I have been booked into this hotel as part of a coach trip and wish that I hadn't. I read the reviews and thought it can't be that bad, I was wrong. I signed in to get my key and the receptionist couldn't find my envelope even though I repeatedly spelt my name. I got my key and went to my room, I went to lock the door behind me & there was only a chain, no lock. I unpacked and the room was nice, the bed comfy however I had to remove the stained cushion from my bed. The bathroom was a joke. T... Read more

I went on a coach trip I seen the reviews but did not believe it is like a haunted house half the hotel is boarded up as was a fire the other half should be, the dining room has been put in the bar most things are out of order, the fire alarm went off several times at night I really believed we was on candid camera, I imagine before the fire it was stunning but not now

Stayed here for one night. Went on a coach trip with national holidays to Bath then to stay at this hotel. Hotel was lovely. Very clean. Abit cold in the hotel but there was only our coach there. The rooms were warm and clean. Beds were very comfortable Dinner and breakfast were included. The dinner was excellent. 3 courses and you could have what ever you wanted. The main food was buffet style. Very tasty. And the desserts were really nice. Had 2 of those! Had a bottle of wine which wasn't a ba... Read more

I really don't know where to start with this one. First impressions were that I'd stepped straight out of 2016 and into 1976, the decor was so bad. The room was awful, the shower was terrible, the tap at the sink came off in my hand, the sink was blocked, the towel rail had it's power supply cut off, and was taped over with insulation tape; one positive was that the bed was comfortable. The list of things which were "out of order" included the ladies toilet in the bar/restaurant, (meaning any... Read more

Booked here as it was close to where I was working. I had read the reviews and knew the hotel was fire damaged so my expectations were not high. The corridors did smell sooty. The room was dated but clean and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom fittings were tired but the shower worked well. My steak at dinner was tasty and although there was only 1 waiter and 1 (chef) there was no great delay. Breakfast was cooked to order and was very good. I had a walk around the grounds and lake after ... Read more

Stayed on business for a couple of nights. Room was spacious, clean, good temperature, but basic. Room I was given was one of the accessable ones as had lots of features for disabled visitors. Patio doors opened up to small decking area outside room, bathroom had a really good shower. Old CRT TV but ok as didn't use it. Pillows awful, when you put your head in the middle, they were so soft the edges folded up around your face, ok nights sleep. As far as company paid rooms go for single occupancy... Read more

I work in Reading and live in The Midlands so from time to time I need an Impromptu stop over and it's not easy to find a reasonably priced hotel at a few hours notice in the area. So on this occasion my seasoned find a hotel research methods were out the window and it was just find something close that was good value for money. I travel a lot so have a check list of minimum requirements and Reading Lake ticked all the boxes. What I didn't appreciate was that one of the wings of this hotel was ... Read more
