Really faultless for a business meeting. Meeting rooms open out to the river, and views of bridge. My room had a balcony with river views too. Am ashamed to say I had low expectations of a Reading stay... Crowne Plaza blew that away. First class service and amenities.

The hotel is a corporate soulless place, the rooms good sized and comfortable, the hotel staff friendly... But... We booked a quiet room with city view and ended up with view of the roof and satellite dishes and the constant noise of water running and the water cylinder filling up... Not impressed!

The hotel was easy to find, but the car park is not attached and there are only a few disabled spaces immediately outside the entrance. However this is a minor observation as the hotel and its facilities are superb. The staff were friendly and very helpful, our room was lovely,(although overlooked the adjacent car park!) but the provision of a complimentary fluffy white dressing gown made up for this. The bed was sooooo comfortable I did not want to get up! Breakfast was a veritable feast with... Read more

I did not try wifi. It was one of those where you log In and get the standard wifi free but if you need more substantial they have 2 levels. The room was standard and I had no problems at all very comfortable. Included a fridge. There wasn't a 3 pin socket next to the bed. I ate in the restaurant which I enjoyed but was a little pricy. The staff were all very nice but I don't think the kitchen staff paid enough attention to the order instructions. Unless there were language problems. Any how it ... Read more

I have just enjoyed a very brief stay at the Hotel and found it superb. Firstly its location is virtually on the Thames . The staff both on Reception and later in the Bar and informal restaurant were extremely friendly and helpful. I had a wedding reception to attend just across the Caversham Bridge and could see each venue from the other. Whilst Reading itself is a very mixed area, Caversham is most pleasant with numerous Pubs and Bars all within walking distance from each other. The Hotels' ... Read more

We stayed here the night after a rugby match in Twickenham. This is the second time we've done this and is ideal. We left the car at half 8 in the morning in the hotel car park and walked 10 mins to the station. Checked-in at about half 7 the same evening. Good rooms with a great tea tray, quality toiletries, adequate wifi and comfy bed. The room has an ironing board, safe and a hairdryer. I cannot recommend this hotel enough to do it justice! I stayed at the Crowne Plaza Hotel as a party of 4 in 2 double rooms for 1 night and had a fabulous stay. The staff were really helpful, friendly and a credit to the hotel. Arrived on a Friday evening, went into a lovely room over looking river, changed and went down to the club room, where we had drinks and some wonderful nibbles. I have to say the young Lady that served our drinks ( Maria ) is a real credit to this hotel. Only down fall was in the room we had you could hear the " thump thump thump " of " music" till the small hours!! I used the pool on both mornings which is absolutely fabulous . One of the better Crowne Plazas, in my experience - and they can vary quite wildly, usually down to the staff. This one is at Caversham Bridge, in Reading, right next to the River Thames and there are pleasant walks along the riverside from the hotel. It is 10 minutes?? walk from the main railway station, so easy to get to. The hotel is modern in styling and was once, many years ago, a Holiday Inn. It has had the necessary bells and whistles added to make it into a Crowne Plaza and the rooms ... Read more

We had an overnight here, arrived quite late and left straight after breakfast. I wished we could have stayed a couple of days as the rooms were very comfortable, the position right next to the river is fantastic and the staff very helpful. Town and restaurants a very short walk away too. The hotel offers nice extras such as your morning paper of choice, aromatherapy kit for a restful sleep and a nespresso pod machine (with 2 capsules). I would happily return to this hotel for a longer stay.

Hotel looks nice and most of the staff were very helpful. Quiet room was the noisiest I have stayed in for some time - even with the A/C turned off. Rumbling sound from somewhere. Supposed to be a quiet room ... NOT. Breakfast was excellent (but no black pudding) but hotel restaurant was quite poor for evening meals, made a hash of a fillet steak which was sinewy and under-cooked (asked for Medium Rare, pink, no blood). Attended an awards function last month and found the Hotel extremely welcoming and comfortable. Superb and ample parking facilities, very central to the town centre. The room was spacious, clean and full of all amenities for an overnight stay. The CP Reading is an older hotel which is so well placed with the river Thames outside - lovely. With a short walk from the station and London / Heathrow not far away it makes loads of sense as a base to stay. This is only a review of the restaurant not of the rest of the hotel. We wanted a lunch in the cool of air conditioning as it was a rare hot day in England. We ordered two lunches. Both arrived in good time but both were wrong and were sent back. My chicken was dry and overcooked. My wife's meal pretty uninspiring. The hotel did discount the meal as an apology but the meal was also marred by workmen taking apart some steps in the restaurant so a nice quiet lunch was neither nice nor quiet.

Disappointing that breakfast wasn't included and I felt £15.80 was a lot for average self-service food. I even had to chase around and ask twice to get some coffee. My second cu... Read more

Stayed here and was awake most of the night with different things going on. I think if I called reception at 1am, the answer would have been move to another room, by the end of the night I would have moved 3 times as 3 different areas were noisy. The rooms are obviously not well insulated. Next, dinner the night before was average but at £74 for 2 of us...not worth it. Breakfast, asked for poached eggs, came with hard yolks and why fry dozens of eegs and put them in a heater only to go hard. Th... Read more

Having stayed in a Crowne Plaza before I knew what to expect. The reception area is large leading down into the bar then restaurant with lots of places to sit. Our room was very clean and modern, it came with a hairdryer and even a multi head phone charger which I was impressed with (it's hidden behind the lamp on the desk). Our view was of the flat roof in the centre of the hotel which was very disappointing due to the hotels location on the river Thames. There is a terrace out the back of ... Read more

Had a one night stay in this hotel. We arrived very early for check in, hoping to leave our car in the car park and then check in later in order to make the most of the time around Reading. The reception staff couldn't have been more helpful and let us check in immediately. The car park was secure with electric gates and a code from reception to get out. The location is good - around a 10 minute walk into Reading (brisk pace). There are riverside walks as well but we didn't have time on this ... Read more

This hotel is well located on the side of Thames and within a short walk of the town centre with all it's bars, shops and restaurants. Also close to station. We've stayed here twice now and been very impressed. Staff are good and helpful. They've changed the restaurant since last year and breakfast both mornings we we there was a bit hit n miss. No fried eggs both mornings when we went up and had to wait. Getting tea n coffee seemed too much like hard work. Bring back the hot drinks machine an... Read more

Used this hotel as a base when we went to the races at ascot. The room was modern and comfortable. Air con, flat screen TV and phone charging points. The hotel is on the river as well. The bar is a little expensive and the Restaurant was poor, which was disappointing as we had been here the year before and it was excelent. Our friends who travelled with us said the food was good, so it may of been a one off. They did not charge us for the food after we sent it back.

Hotel is next to the river and is in a good location for Reading centre. The hotel is nothing special in terms of rooms and facilities, bit pricey for what is on offer. Room rate did not include a breakfast either. Parking is available in a secure car park adjacent to the hotel. Better options are available in Reading Centre.

We chose the hotel after checking it had a cocktail bar with a view - the bar, restaurant and view were disappointing. The food was average and was made slightly better by the bar staff who could not make one of the very few cocktails on the menu due to running out of the main ingredient! We had a specially made cocktail instead. We could only have one of the starters we choose as they had run out of this too - this was a Saturday! The room however was clean and comfortable and the front desk... Read more

This hotel is not good, I'd go as far as terrible per title, if I could I'd go <1. 4 things in a hotel; 1) Clean and tidy room - Bad, why? Aircon never works, bathrooms are a disaster, mould on tiles, (pink and black), lights half out of ceiling, plugs don't work properly, finish is atrocious. Smelly damp, need I go on?! 2) Service - Good in the main. 3) Location - Good, just as well you'll understand later, 4) below. 4) Food - Total lottery, menu is very poor, no pasta (unless u consider ... I regularly choose the Crowne Plaza when staying in Reading. The common areas are light and airy, with nice views to the rear. The recently refurbished restaurant has a good selection of meals and provides a nice place to enjoy a view of the river with your meal. The rooms are comfortable, but aren't as modern in style as some other chains in the area, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. There are only 2 upper floors at the hotel which is also quite nice as a change from huge impersonal complex... Read more

We have stayed at this hotel several times before, as the standard is excellent, the staff friendly yet professional, the hotel in an attractive situation, by the Thames. Breakfast was excellent, but we were slightly disappointed with the dinner menu. Not a great choice of main course, and essential si... Read more

Wanted a convenient starting point for a long stretch of the Thames path walk, which practically runs through this property so seemed the ideal choice. Booked a room with double bed and sofa bed; no sign of the latter but didn't need it and the room we received did have a view of the river and bridge, so an acceptable tradeoff. Discovered that the pool/gym/spa close at 8 on weekends, which is a shame as we arrived about half 7. Fortunately I was able to drag myself out of the extremely comfo... Read more

Nicely put together rooms (not huge but big enough) comfy beds and I always love the little sleep kits crowne plaza do! WiFi worked and the food in the evening was good. (I didn't eat breakfast) fridge in the room was handy and having the bathrobes was nice. We spent Saturday shopping , there was an excellent mix of large shops and small independent shops, cafes, bars and restaurants all within walking distance. Hotel staff were extremely helpful and polite. The check in was very slow as lots of people, took about 20 mins to get to the desk, they also booked us 2 single beds instead of the double we arranged beforehand. But once we said there was no way we were settling with this as we have the email to say we had booked a double, they quickly changed the booking for us and gave us 2 free drink vouchers. The reception, bar and lounge were very nice so it was a bit of a disappointment to see the room.... Read more

Located close to Reading train station, you can get shuttle buses to Thames Valley Park. I used it for my daily transit to my office in TVP on weekdays and to London on weekends. A fast train will take you to London Paddington station in less than an hours time. from their you can take London tube visit any tourist attraction. Hotel staff is something which made me give 4 instead of 5 rating.

I stayed here last Saturday night. The welcome we got at reception by Juan was warm and friendly as it should be. The room was nice but a little below par for a 4* i think. The Bathroom and shower could not be faulted however there was a large scratch down the door and marks over the wall in the room which i managed to clean with a wet towel. Then came to the nights sleep. On 4 occasions through the night the hotel phone rang once or twice then stopped which was very annoying. So an enjoyable ni... Read more

I have stayed at the Crowne Plaza on the 12 November 2016 and will never go back. The Hotel is good and so are the Rooms. It is the satff that that are so rude and you do not feel welcomed. I have never seen service of this sort in any Hotel in my entire life. The club lounge has cold snack and no spirits. I went here for an annual meet-up with friends, hoping for a good Afternoon Tea and a chance to natter. Certainly the price at £30 per person suggested this would be a nice experience. What we actually got were some so-so sandwiches and cakes, and service that ranged from unhelpful (when we asked for sandwich substitution as one of us is vegetarian) to downright hostile - I've never been tutted and sighed at in a restaurant before but that's what happened when I asked for some extra hot water ... I have stayed here many times when we visit reading annually for work. It is always my first choice when booking a hotel in reading. Rooms are always clean and extremely comfortable. Food is very good although a little limited for vegetarians and vegans. Breakfast is ample and veggie sausages are a valid on request which is a bonus for me. I also always find the staff incredibly polite and very helpful. Will be back again next year for sure.

This was a quality experience. The room was comfortable, the bed was good - left on the pillow was a small container of pillow spray and oil for the pulses to help us sleep! The surroundings are pleasant, a main road at the front, but a walk by the river at the back. Breakfast was of good quality and the room looked out onto the more attractive scenery at the back of the hotel. Very solicitous service and attention to detail. Stayed at the hotel during a business trip for 3 nights. Was the first time I've stayed here, and one of the few hotels in Reading I haven't stayed at. Now it's clear why. To start with the restaurant: You need a level of patience that's unheard of. They take 20 minutes before they ask you what you want to eat. Then another 20 to get you the drinks. The food only comes after you make them aware that you're actually waiting for it. The staff is careless and you seem to be speaking with ghosts. T... Read more
