We've stayed here as a couple on a few occasions and everyone has been decent, nice view over the river, spacious rooms, comfy bed, good dining and lounge facilities. Unfortunately, we were placed in a room on our last stay that hadn't been cleaned, they admitted their responsibility and moved rooms, the room was lovely but during the night we smelt burning, my partner got up to have a look and and fire alarm near the bed, shot off and was a near miss from hitting me, we placed the broken piece... My first and last stay at this overpriced hotel didn't start well by being checked into a room with no power! Back down to reception to check back in again! Switched to another twin room (single beds that move on their castors). Standard breakfast is full English when working away £16.95 for the buffet probably the most expensive I have paid. But when I was told there was a surcharge of £3 to have my eggs poached .. you can imagine my response! I have never come across a hotel chain who has t... Read more

Stayed recently with work. Hotel is reasonably well located if a little on the outskirts of the city centre. Reception was understaffed when we arrived around 7pm with a reasonable queue. Room booked was Standard (double) but twin provided. Apparently this is standard if you book a standard. No option to move. Room service arrived on time, soup tasty. Ordered a salad which was poor quality, leaves didn't seem to have been thoroughly washed, pretty underwhelmed. Great that it has a 17m swimmin... Read more

This hotel is not what is expected of a Crowne Plaza. The standard of service is too variable. Reception works OK. The rooms are OK. Spa is pretty good. Bedrooms are jaded. The bar offers a good range of drinks and a lunchtime snack and coffee is good value and the staff are very pleasant. Then we get to the restaurant. The service is awful., the food was inedible and had to be a sent back. Never had such bad food anywhere in the world and that is not an exaggeration.

We like Crowne Plaza hotels, and had an enjoyable stay at this one several years ago. It now feels a little tired, and no longer up to Crowne plaza standards. On checking in I asked if we had a river view - was told we had, but found in reality we looked out over the roof, into bedrooms opposite. Perhaps the receptionist should look out the window of room 112! The room was OK, but nothing special. The brown wallpaper was badly marked, and one of the bedside lights wasn't working. Bed seemed smal... Read more

I returned to this hotel having stayed here several times before for family and business events. To me it has never been less than very good, and I found this three night stay excellent. Rooms are large, comfortable with lots of nice touches - fluffy robes, range of pillows, very good beverage tray with a realistic range of drinks, decent bathroom, etc. Breakfasts are comprehensive with a full range of hot and cold items. The health club is a great addition with a lovely large pool and good gym.... Read more

This Hotel is a good example of a Hotel that suits business travellers, central, good transportation links, caring staff, comfortable rooms and quality food. Stayed on business but would be more than happy to bring my wife and stay for a leisurely weekend break.

The position of the hotel on the Thames is superb and the rooms are large and very comfortable. We had dinner at the hotel, which was very good, unfortunately had to wait a long time to be served. Breakfast was excellent and service throughout our stay was very good. We will stay here again even though it is 15 minutes walking to the center of Reading. Free parking is a pro.

We stayed here 07/01/2017. When we arrived a wedding party were stood in reception, leaving hardly any space for us to get to the reception desk (still confused as to why they weren't told to wait in the large dining space located behind them). When getting to the reception desk at 2.25pm, we were told that we were too early to check in so wait (which we completely understood and were happy with), due to there being no space to actually wait, we moved over to the corner of the reception desk. At... Read more
