Positioned close to the seafront and conveniently local for evening places to eat. This is easy to get to by car and is a nicely laid out, comfortable hotel, in the IHG chain, staff are always helpful, rooms are good quality and comfortable. Parking can be a bit tight when fully booked.

When we checked in, as there were no more car park spaces left in the hotel, the check-in person gave us a free 24 hour parking permit to use on the outside parking meters. We were also given a free upgrade to an Executive Room, which were very well appointed. The hotel also has very nice leisure facilities such as an indoor pool, jacuzzi, steam and sauna. The hotel is also very well positioned for all the nearby attractions such as Southsea Castle, the D-Day Museum and the rest of the beach fro... Read more

Stayed here in an executive room for a week in May. The location is great with everything a tourist could want a short stroll away. The room itself was very small and slightly tired but was clean comfortable and quiet. The bathrooms however are very small with difficulty to get in and shut the door whilst stood inside-something you need to do if you want access to the sink!. The staff were efficient and helpful and all public areas clean and inviting. The free internet is good but has limite... Read more

This Holiday Inn remains a great place to stay when in Portsmouth. Situated on Southsea Common and with the sea in the distance, it is comfortable and with very helpful staff. Also, some rooms have been refurbished. Breakfasts are very good, and reasonably priced - if there are two of you! At present, parking is limited at the hotel, but staff will quickly sort out any difficulty you have. You will need to walk to the attractions - but through old Portsmouth this is no hardship. Stayed here for a weekend in Portsmouth with friends. Hotel was fairly expensive for what it was (around £110 a night). Staff were good. The hotel itself appears old and outdated. The interior and rooms could do with a revamp and freshening up. It is very basic in the room. The pool was cold and again appeared dated. The hot tub was out of action. The breakfast was ok, nothing special. I have stayed in much nicer holiday Inn's for less of the price. The only thing going for this hotel is the lo... Read more

This was an overnight stay to break up a journey. Very friendly and helpful reception staff. Clean bright and tidy bar and restaurant area. Rooms were good. Best hotel room shower I have had. However the only thing I would mark it down on is having to pay for WiFi. A free service virtually anywhere else now. Come on Holiday Inn move with the times.

This hotel is very well placed for many of Portsmouth attractions, on site parking, (chargeable) right in the middle of a very nice shopping precinct, many eating houses, casino all within very easy walking distance. The hotel itself is clean comfortable, well staffed, the breakfast was buffet style but well cooked, tv package available ( chargeable), free wi fi everywhere in the hotel all in all a very well run clean comfortable hotel.

On the good side all the staff were helpful and friendly. I paid for an "executive" room in an attempt to get a decent stay. We paid and average of £160/night B&B so it was reasonable to expect a good standard. The room was average the bathroom a joke. To get in you had to slide around the door, If you opened it fully you walked into the pan and could not shut the door. I peeked in a few other rooms and found little difference whether it said "executive" on the door or not. And why do HI insist... Read more

I stayed at this hotel, for work, for 10 weeks and it was fantastic. (between March-June) My rooms were always clean, staff were always happy to help and offer a friendly welcome after a long day. Free & paid wifi. Lots of restaurants close by so plenty of dining/shopping options. I can't fault a thing, it was everything I could have needed/wanted. Would stay here again if I am ever in Portsmouth. Thanks so much!

We stayed as a party in 3 separate rooms, one was a little too near the refurb going on but no spare rooms available at the time. Think that the rooms next to the drilling should not have been allocated. All was lovely and clean, yes the bathroom was a little tight on space but no fault with the cleanliness. We were given an upgrade which was a nice surprise, and the room was very clean and presentable. Nice room but no bath, just a shower. Was offered an upgrade but didn't know what the upgrade meant. Now I know. A bath. Good breakfast. Hotel was busy and room service did not respond. Had to go to reception. At check in time at 2pm there was a queue and it took half an hour for us to be dealt with. The reason? I reckon it was because of the limited car park so everyone checked in early to get a space.

The room was no bigger than any other room in the hotel, the bed was the same as any other room as far as we could see. It was a warm night and we couldn't open the window more than 1.5 inches and the air conditioning didn;t seem to be working so we spent a very uncomfortable night. We have s... Read more

Never stayed here before although myself and my husband spend a lot of time in Portsmouth and booked before reading reviews and so glad I did as we would of been put off! Every guest has their own expectations and this leads to each and everyone's individual opinions that includes mine compared to my husband's on the hotel .. He happily gave a 10 I myself have a 8.. Point lost from hubby as only 1 very small lift.. I myself felt the decor although we had a room modernised was a little neglected ... Read more

Stay here a lot of work, nice and clean hotel mixture of rooms but all good. The gym is small but it's great to have access after a day at work. Food is good, breakfast has a great choice of food and restaurant does good food at a reasonable price too :)

It's a well run Holiday Inn, nothing fancy but very comfortable with a pool and gym. I only used the restaurant for breakfast but all was fine with good service. I like the location of this hotel being in a quiet area on the edge of South Sea Common with good sea views but also handy for Old Portsmouth and the town centre. Best to arrive early if you want to find a space in the hotel car park.

I arrived at 13h45, but was told to wait until 14h00 to check in (!), although there must have ready rooms, and despite being member of IHG rewards club. (Hotel in London gave room at 10h00) One lamp not working in bathroom and no toilet sponge. I gave cash 30 pounds for a dinner at 22 pounds, but got back only 3 pounds, so check carefully the return money. Staff not very friendly at reception desk for getting a cab, had to call myself, most hotels the receptionist gives the call.

Siu & Jack!! What an asset to the hotel. Amazing staff, perfect location and the hotel was spotless. Stayed from Friday to Sunday and no faults at all. Rooms came with the standard accessories you'd expect like the iron & kettle. Only thing was that we booked a twin room and only had one towel to begin with but reception had one brought up straight away. Amazing stay and will definitely be staying again.

Arriving at the hotel you get the impression on a 1970s council flat block, the outside is rather dated, but does feature a modern part for the reception. Upon checking in I proceeded to wait for the one solitary working lift in the building; the other was out of order, and reassuringly there was a sign on the one working lift advising that it too would be out of order in a few days time in order to put it back to 'full working order'. This was to be the last time I took a lift during my stay, ... Read more

Been here before and even tho you register u r car there are never any spaces!!! The room is pretty basic but the bathroom has been re done. Bar prices were extortionate and breakfast was a shambles -nobody replenishing anything that had run out. Yes only saving grace was the lady on reception who helped me with my hairdryer emergency!

Stayed here for 2 nights and all I can say it was eventful. Check in was ok after a little wait, but once in our room we didn't have any of the extra executive rooms should have and there was a horrible smell from the fridge. We got moved after complaining straight away to reception and the new room was better but the bathroom is very small so please be warned. Room service never answered the phone, and on again mentioning this to reception we had to place our order through them and then had ... Read more

I have been to a couple of hotels in Portsmouth and a few holiday inns so I thought I would try this one as they are usually reasonable priced and reasonable quality. On arriving at 15.00 an hour after check in we entered the small car park (it's quite a large hotel) to find it completely full so parked down the road outside and went in leaving my wife in the car as it was pay and display.i was greeted politely by a friendly receptionist and checked in She asked if I was parked in the road,I sa... First time staying here for business. It was what I would expect from a holiday inn. Room was clean and large and had everything I needed. The winter menu is really good and not bad value for money. I have eaten here a few times in the last few months and the staff overall are either super helpful or don't care. Bit of a mix with restaurant staff in that they will try and accommodate but you feel like your causing a problem. Holiday inn Fareham staff are amazing and maybe some cross training wou... Read more

We stayed here in a family and double room for 3 nights over October half term to explore Portsmouth. Hotel is only 15-20 min walk from main attractions & Gunwharf quay shops. Hotel itself is friendly, rooms are clean and breakfast/evening meals hot and plentiful. The pool area and changing rooms yes are a little tired and smelt however, you can see the hotel itself has been done up recently and certainly the beds & bathrooms in our rooms were very new and clean. Very comfortable stay thank yo... Read more

I spent a Saturday night at this hotel as part of a group of around 40 people. We were pre-booked so arrival should have been a simple process. Sadly the gentleman receptionist, who was well warned of our arrival, seemed unwilling to let guests check in individually - albeit ravelling separately, and despite the head of housekeeping confirming that all rooms had been serviced one hour before they were required. He seemed to begin the 'paperwork/key allocation' only once the group leader had anno... Read more

I've been staying in Portsmouth quite a bit on business recently and I'll start by saying I think hotel prices in the area are generally pretty high but by local standards this hotel is on a par with others and for the small premium you pay over the Holiday Inn Express as Gunwharf Quays it's fairly good value. First impressions; staff were friendly and there is a nice bar and restaurant area. Room was fresh and clean (recently refurbished I was advised on Check-in). Although I didn't use it the ... My friend took me here for a weekend excursion. The lobby area has spacious surroundings and has disabled access. There's a bar area which we used and was priced accordingly and also has dining space & meeting spaces. The weekend we were there, there was a reception on for a party or wedding, so was quite busy. We also made use of the spa with a pool facilities on our last day, which was great, and the sauna. It wasn't busy so was relaxing and great to enjoy. They have a gym but we didn't use... Read more

This is a review of 2 halves, one about the hotel itself and another about our dreadful reservations experience. The hotel itself is good, we upgraded to an executive room which is equipped with extras such as a safe, iron and ironing board, etc. and we were pleased with it. I was lucky with the car park, and managed to get the last available space when I arrived, but there really isn't enough parking available. We had a good view out over Southsea, but beware of the fog horn early on foggy mo... Read more

We stayed here previously when it was The Hilton, since then it's had a lot of work done, it was almost unrecogniseable. We stayed with family and had 2 double rooms and 1 family room, all had lovely bathrooms, comfortable beds and plenty of room and they were all very clean. The hotel is outside Portsmouth centre but very close to a party we were attending so ideal for us. Breakfast was included in the price of the rooms, a basic fried breakfast, cereal etc and a free supply of very nice cof... Read more

We, and other members of my family, stayed here in May 2014, as part of my daughter's wedding arrangements. Our stay then was fine, as was our stay in October 2015 at the Holiday Inn in Sydney, Australia. So when the need arose, we stayed here again recently. Fortunately the cost was minimal as I had a stack of IHG points to spend. Parking is always tricky here, but we bagged the last space, ignoring others who managed to take up two spaces with their massive 4WDs. Check-in was soon completed... Read more

Back in September we booked a room at the hotel for Saturday 3/12/16 on a dinner, bed and breakfast rate of £80 per person. The occasion was a pre Xmas family get together, and there were 14 of us in all, with 7 rooms booked at the same rate. Some members of the group were travelling over 200 miles to attend. 5 days before we were due to travel, we emailed the hotel to ask if it was possible to have a table for 14 in the restaurant for our meal, only to be told that the restaurant was closed ...
