Stayed at this hotel, booked it as it was close to where we had to be early on a Saturday morning, the bonus was breakfast and car parking was included in the price. Had a room opposite the casino, no noise heard due to the double glazing, first class would stay again

I arrived in Portsmouth and couldn't find the entrance to drive into the hotel. I parked nearby and saw Vikki who had obviously answered this question many times previously. Her cheerfulness and very accurate directions ensured I was soon parked in the car park. She then ensured that my ticket was validated so that I got free parking for the first day and only £2 per day thereafter. My room was quite large and the bed awesome. Vikki gave great directions to local attractions and her pride in ... Read more

The hotel is situated right on Gunwharf Quays so access to restaurants, marina and shopping is hassle free. We were on the 3rd floor so did not hear any noise. However, the lifts were erratic and we had to wait a long time for one, eventually using the the stairs at one point. Although the room was pleasant with a view over the Quays, there were damp patches on the ceiling which should have been addressed. The bathroom was nice and big but had no window or ventilation.

Great location for exploring the Historic Harbor as well as the Quayside shops and restaurants. Also by the Spinnaker Tower. We walked everywhere from here. Elevators could use some work, but the room was fine and hotel staff was helpful and friendly. Did not eat breakfast here. Lots of places very close by for meals.

We stayed here on a recent trip to Portsmouth and decided to stay in the heart of Gunwharf Quays. It was a very busy hotel especially at breakfast but was quiet apart from people closing bedrooms doors loudly in the middle of the night, but there wasn't any loud noise from outside. There are lots of shops and restaurants by the hotel and quite a few attractions so an ideal place to stay. The best thing about this very basic hotel is the location in the heart of Gunwharf Quays including 24 hours free parking. The rooms are basic but good enough for what we wanted. The shower was unexpectedly good although the shower curtain doesn't reach the base and so the bathroom floods and you have to use the complimentary towels to mop up. The website says there is an iron and ironing board in the room but we couldn't find it when we needed it. There is a hairdryer attached to the wall but ... Read more

Stayed for one night. Friendly check in and we were given a room with view of the Spinnaker Tower. The room was comfortable and so were the beds! Choice of pillows. Bathroom basic but clean. Soap/shower gel in dispenser on the wall. Good bath towels and a decent shower. Breakfast was good. Lots of choice and help yourself. The location is excellent for Gunwharfs. Free parking for 24 hours. Would return without hesitation.

We chose this location because of its closeness to the historic dockyards and were not disappointed. A large bonus is that it is on the end of a newer, huge shopping center, Gunwharf Quays. It was convenient to have so many stores and places to eat when not visiting the historic things. The room was clean and our room looked over the plaza of the shopping center. The lobby is the location for breakfast that included eggs, sausage, beans and the usual breakfast cereals and pastries. There is a... Read more

As Holiday Inn Express' go, it is straight down the middle for basically everything except location. It is in a great location. It was a peculiar check in experience: the man on the desk truly sucked the life out of everything by ignoring us (right in front of him) until he had finished clicking away on his phone/device/tool (whatever it was, was very important at 11pm) no eye contact, no smile, no "I will be with you in a moment" just blank, for two or three minutes? it felt uncomfortable. ... This is a great hotel for many reasons. It is situated within the Quay. The restaurants throughout the quay give you discounts with your HIE room key. Anywhere from 10-20% off. This hotel is exactly what you would expect from the name - functional not luxurious. However, for a short-term stay it is absolutely fine. The rooms are a good size, they are clean, the shower is good, the wifi is solid, the breakfast is fine, the staff are pleasant and helpful. It might have limitations for a longer term stay as there is no storage and no safe deposit box. It is very conveniently situated, close to the ferry terminals and with lots of restaurants within easy reach.

Portsmouth area is a very busy place in peak summer months, meaning you will pay top dollar in the summer. So although this is an excellent hotel, with an excellent location (there isn't a better located hotel in my opinion) i just felt the 170 GBP which was asked, was a little too steep. Had the price of been lower this place would certainly got full marks, as everything was perfect. But if you want to stay in the peak period, you have to pay peak periods prices as well.

Hotel was comfortable and clean. Friendly staff. Adequate inclusive continental and hot buffet breakfast. We would stay here again.

There are three good things to say about this hotel: 1) bed is comfortable 2) location is perfect, with a view to the harbor, and outlet shopping centre and quite a few places to get dinner or just drinks. 3) staff. They're all really nice and helpful But that that's about it. The room is rather small, it doesn't have a closet and the AC is not working properly so it's noisy and it gets cold. Bathroom is small it's got a curtain which is not very hygienic, and it's really small. On top of this... Read more

Comfortable. Breakfast was good, continental and hot choice and included in room rate. Great location at Gunwhaft Quays, shop, eat and drink your time away!

On arrival the trainee staff said we had NO booking, the senior member of staff soon rectified this problem and was in fact a very polite and welcoming during our stay. The location is perfect next to shops, restaurant bars and of course the great south run. Parking was underground parking belonging to the shopping centre 50 meters away the first 24hrs is free then only £2per day. The breakfast was spot on everything you need even porridge, the sausages were amazing. The rooms were spacious clea... Read more

Clean room and bathroom - nice accommodation in fact. However this was all let down by a shambolic breakfast situation. A veritable free-for-all for a poor breakfast. All hot food ran out meaning lots of standing around, getting in the way of the drinks machines as everything seemed to be crammed into one area. It seemed just two members of staff were on hand for all duties (including cleaning tables. When the eggs eventually came out there wasn't enough for those waiting. Breakfast defiantly ne... Had a brilliant two night stay here recently. The room is what you would expect from an express hotel, basic but a good size and clean. However, this hotel has a brilliant location, easy access to restaurants, shops and the dockyard all in walking distance. Parking at this hotel is in the public underground shopping centre car park again walking distance and at a cheap rate through the hotel. Breakfast was adequate. Staff are friendly and helpful. We will definately stay here again when next vis... Read more

Stayed at Holiday inn for 3 nights. Location of the hotel is perfect, near the sea and shopping areas. Room was big and was kept clean. View from the room was straight to shopping street. Hotel staff very helpful. Breakfast, well if you like english breakfast then its okay, but I would like to have for example cheese, sausage or meat. And the breakfast was the same every morning.

took swmbo away for a few days retail therapy and booke the holiday inn express at gunwarf quays. its situated at the top end of the shopping area, you can park in the reatail outlet multi-storey, they will validate your ticket and the first day was free, the second 24hrs cost £2 a bargain in my book. we stayed in room 335 which is on the side of hotel away from the restaurants and bars so it was nice and quiet. the room was more than adequate for a two night stay, not a great amount of hangin... Really not impressed with this hotel for the money that we paid. The only good thing is the brilliant location. Parking was a nightmare. Room looked very tired and so did the general décor around the hotel. One of the lifts was not working correctly which of course does not help when you have luggage. Room was very basic and in fact I have stayed in better Travel Lodge hotels! Breakfast was really poor - no bacon just sausages, scrambled egg and beans for hot food! If I had paid £60 for this... We enjoyed two nights at this Holiday Inn Express. It's wonderfully located for shops and the main attractions of Portsmouth. Pleasant room and enjoyable breakfast. Surprisingly quiet at night. Modern and clean. Good value for money.

Have stayed here before and always found it to be quite good. Bed wasn't as comfy as some I have slept in. Breakfast was nice. Room was a million miles away but still nice. Bathroom could have done with updating and the receptionist didn't ask for my reward card - I had to present it. Worlds smallest hairdryer but it did the trick.

Travelled to Portsmouth for a charity evening on HMS warrior. Stayed in this hotel and was greeted by the most pleasant reception staff (hard to come by in the south). Comfortable room. Bar stayed open late so we could continue our evening after we returned to the hotel. Tip: remember to have your key with you at all times as it's needed for the lift!

Stayed here on 11.11.16 for a night away before we went out to No Mans Fort. Really nice hotel, its basic but what you would expect from a Holiday Inn. Room nice and clean, relatively spacious. Really good location for shopping round the Quay and lots of restaurants and bars to choose from all on your doorstep. We are Club members and received a list of food outlets we could get discount as well as a £5 match play for the casino which we didn't realise we got until we arrived. really helpful... Read more

Last visit was a year ago, and it was good to see the hotel had been refurbished. Both lifts functioned, which was not the case on previous occasions, and carpets in corridors was quite obviously new. The location is quite excellent, but really there is no competition, and hence the accommodation is priced rather high. Breakfast is included in the price, and can be categorised as "all right".

Stayed here for two nights for business. Lukewarm showers, soap dispenser on the wall and if you needed an ironing board you had to go down to the front desk and if you were lucky they would lend you one to take back to your room. Breakfast was very basic. Staff were friendly but this did not make up for the petty cost cutting. Has put me off staying at holiday inns in future

We recently stayed at the Holiday Inn Express for 1 night. The welcome at check in was excellent and all of the staff we met with were excellent, very professional and friendly. Hotel is in a great location in the heart of the Gun wharf quays area of the city. Despite its central location, it is quite well hidden and we did struggle to find the property, its not that well sign posted. Room was a reasonable size (we were travelling with an infant and the hotel provided a travel cot) and we had en... Read more

For such a well placed hotel, and one so modern i was appalled at how dreadful my business stay was here last night. I was pleased with the warm welcome and efficient check in (in fact, the staff are the best thing about this hotel). My room was awful though... Poor maintenance: there was a leak in the bathroom which caused water to constantly seep through the floor tile joints. half of my towels were used to soak it up!! The toilet roll holder was faulty and the shower tray drain was blocked... Read more

An enjoyable overnight stay for my wife and I at this hotel when we visited Gunwharf and the Xmas Festival at the Portsmouth Dockyard nearby. Very friendly and efficient staff and a very clean and comfortable room. We had requested a view of some kind and were allocated a third floor corner room with views over Gunwharf, the Spinnaker and beyond, especially with the Christmas lights and decorations lit up at night. Great place to stay. Location perfect for Gunwharf. 24 hours free parking. Ticket validated by reception. Brilliant greeting by reception staff. So polite and helpful. Room adequate. Stayed in twin room. Pillows to hard, only gripe. Breakfast great. Lovely coffee and fresh food. Brilliant place to stay so central to everything. Thank you.
