Seeking for a quiet weekend away somewhere by the sea I came across this hotel and decided to book it as the rooms , offer and location looked very nice and acceptable. I called the hotel, actually it was a centralised number for a chain of hotels, just to confirm the availability of facilities. The person on the phone was very helpful, nice and professional and I was happy to book a double room for the agreed price. Beware - do not call the number of any hotel from this chain! Staff on the reception are wonderful, room was really great, tea making facilities in the room and probably the best breakfast in an express ever, so deserving of five stars. But, at £99 for a night (i'm in an express in Pamplona right this minute at £47 per night) it's over the wall pricey. And whoever built a brand new hotel with two floors without a lift (there is one in Pamplona)????? Shame, so only three stars!!!!

Having stayed in this hotel frequently in its past guises, I was pleased and pleasantly surprised at how nice the refurb had made the accommodations. Basic but very well appointed just about covers this and because the heated demisting mirror in the bathroom was the best simple touch to make life easier in a rush when shaving I will certainly be back :)

The hotel itself isn't situated near main attractions in Portsmouth (Commerical St, Gunwharf Quays etc) but is in a few miles driving distance. There was construction occurring during my stay, most likely to extend the hotel, but it did not cause any inconvenience. There is also a petrol station very near the hotel, which is helpful. There is a lovely atmosphere in the hotel's main lobby area, with a restaurant, lounge and bar. There's enough seating for the hotel's residents and I didn't find... Read more

Great hotel currently being refurbished. Lobby and bar area looks great as do the rooms. Lovely touches - good quality iron/board and hairdryer, large TV. The bathrooms are large and airy with a powerful shower. My room was on the first floor overlooking the courtyard. It was quiet and comfortable with good air conditioning. Breakfast was good and bags/cups are provided to enable you to eat on the go. Dinner choices are limited but was good. Slight niggle at having to search out the cutler... Read more

I thought this was quite a lot to pay for a budget hotel (>£100) just off the motorway. It has just been refurbished and is really pretty good. The outside lets the inside down. I stayed in a Marriott later that week which was a higher star rating and the Holiday Inn was better. For the right price, this is is good place to stay.

Recently refurbished and one of the best Holiday Inn Express hotels we have stayed in. Only one problem. The 60cm wide showers need more thought I cracked my head open on the grab rail. Breakfast was excellent, with fresh ground coffee and croissants fresh out of the oven and the staff friendly.

Chose this as it was cheap and not too far from the channel ferry port. Rooms were very comfortable and equipped. However, my FIRST room had an adjoining door to another room with some very noisy people in it - the door was so thin it sounded like they were in MY room! We had a few issues booking the room as Holiday Inn as they took the wrong amount then refunded it £10 short but eventually got it all sorted. The room was lovely, all newly decorated and fresh. Comfy bed and nice en suite ensured a good nights sleep and easy start to the next day. Had a few drinks at the bar on the evening which was all very pleasant and the staff directed us to a very nice Harvester pub about 3 mins away for our evening meal - although we could have eaten at the hotel had we ... Pleasantly surprised as how quiet the hotel is although just off the A27. Beautiful secluded location with the excellent gentle sea breeze when outside the hotel. Smooth, friendly and quick check in. Well designed modern rooms with views of plants and trees. Superb double glazing makes for a peaceful stay. Splendid facilities with an excellent power shower to refresh you after a long journey. Good restaurant service to tackle the hungry. All together a great place to stay and I will return soon ... Read more

Staying at this hotel is a pleasure, well appointed newly refurbished rooms make for a comfortable stay. Good showers that don't have annoying baths to clamber in and out of is a good move in my opinion. The only downside was the noise of neighbouring rooms until the small hours and whilst not really the fault of the hotel it did detract from a perfectly peaceful night.

We booked one night here to enable us to visit friends in Portsmouth. The hotel looks tidy and quite smart on arrival and the reception/lobby area is bright and welcoming. The greeting at reception was friendly and we were soon checked in. The walk to our room (264) was a long one due to the layout of the hotel, but the corridors were light and airy too. The hotel is on only 2 floors and our room was upstairs - not too much trouble with the stairs, but I was surprised to find there was no lift. ... Read more

We normally stay at Holiday Inn Express in the States so we decided to give this one a shot in Portsmouth north. It was either brand new or recently renovated but it was decorated beautifully and super immaculate. Would highly recommend. They even have a wonderful coffee maker that makes lattes etc our only disappointment was there were no cinnamon rolls but this is England and there was the traditional English breakfast.

We have just spent a night here and enjoyed every minute. The whole hotel has recently been refurbished with comfortable furniture and lovely bright decor. We had an evening meal that was delicious and the breakfast was a real treat. You could choose from a range of different coffees, cooked breakfast, cereals, fruit, toast, muffins, croissants, rolls etc. They provided bags so you could take food away and the coffee was also available to take away. This hotel is much better since the rooms were refurbished. The room was very well decorated, the bathroom was excellent and bed comfort also much improved. Parking is free and easily accessible to the room. I would highly recommend this place for people visiting Portsmouth or Chichester. Breakfast is also better than average for a HIE, offering both sausages and bacon, but please add thick bread not that thin "medium" rubbish on offer.....

A great location for business or holidays around Portsmouth. A new hotel just shaking down and keen to get things right. Breakfast was included in our deal and I have never seen a better spread at a budget hotel. One little gripe was that our room was rather cool to start and you need to put your key in a holder to turn on lights etc so we couldn't turn the heating up and pop to the bar for a drink. Oh and there is lots of comfortable seating, a small bar and they serve light snacks/meals. Close... Read more

A well located hotel with easy access to the road network, but is only 4 ish miles from the centre of Portsmouth. The hotel us light and airy with plenty of seating in the communal areas. The breakfast was very good and the bar is pretty well stocked, my only gripe is the lack of real ale, but given that ale is harder keep than keg beers I understand why. This was my first stay at this location, although I do occasionally use other Holiday Inn Express hotels for business trips in the UK. Despite familiarity with the brand and other locations, I was quite simply suprised by the professionalism of the staff and the very high standard of the room and restaurant. It is a very recently renovated property with a very sleek interior design. The room was spacious, as was the toilet/shower room. The only down side is that it really isn't within walking... This hotel is not remarkable; it is not outrageously good but it does deliver a very solid product with friendly staff, reasonable prices and a good level of comfort. It is very good for a night in a hotel, near the motorway; very modern and recently refurbished.

This review is based on a four night stay in the hotel here on the outskirts of Portsmouth. On that note it is very conveniently located for the town as the M27 motorway is just a minute or two away; the car park borders with the east bound slip road. Portsmouth centre is about 15 minutes drive on a clear road. That said, in my room, there was no motorway noise. The room door 'key' is a contactless one so don't, like me, go looking for a slot to push the card into - just wave the card next to t... Read more

We stayed here as a family with 2 teenagers as a stop over for the great south run. We had a family room with 2 double beds and a small lounge area. Room was spotlessly clean, facilities great. It would be good to have more milk for the tea but that was all. The bathroom was also spotless and large, big power shower. However it was very cold! Everything from check-in with helpful, friendly staff to the very comfortable, newly refurbished room was first class. We didn't eat in the hotel but had a drink in the bar which was reasonably priced. The only slight gripe we had was about breakfast. We loved staying in this hotel and the reburbishments are excellent. We didn't take advantage of the free breakfast as we were visiting relatives nearby. They have a very limited bar which would be more understandable if they were near lots of other places where you could drink but they are not. The hotel is clean and modern looking. My room (which was possibly the furthest you could get from reception!!) was freezing cold. the Air Con / Heater sounded like a tornado jet so I had it only on when I was awake. The shower was good and hot. There was no porridge. And once again I have not had the points for the visit added to my IGS account. I had to use this hotel due to location for work, every time I use a HI hotel the screw up the points. 4 visits and still ZERO points.
