Holiday Inn must have the best position in Plymouth, overlooking the Hoe one way and a short walk into the town centre the other way. Car parking is available which is a big plus so near the town centre. The staff were all friendly and helpful, the room was quiet, comfortable and spacious. The restaurant on the top floor has the most marvellous views all round. Breakfast is a varied buffet with plenty of choice. Evening meals were lovely, with a table d'hpote which was good value. I have been using Holiday Inns for many years - partly because of their excellent loyalty schemes. The Plymouth hotel dates from the 1970's but has recently benefited from a refurbishment. The rooms are spacious, although the ventilation/air conditioning is not the best. The breakfast is superb - as are the views from the restaurant. The underground car-park - although a big plus, given the hotels location - is VERY tight. If you have a 4 X 4 you will need to be very careful.

Despite there being a mix up with our room it was once again a fabulous visit to Holiday Inn, Plymouth. The view from the restaurant is just amazing and the breakfast and service second to none. The new reception and bar area airy and welcoming. Rooms and bathrooms standard but location, views and breakfast make it a hotel we return to year after year.

It's not the cheapest for its category but it does the job. Rooms are adequate. The gym and pool at nice. The location is super. And breakfast from the top floor is very nice. But I have to admit that's about it. We've stayed a couple of times and the time before last the fire alarm went off twice and we had to carry the kids with pyjamas and all at midnight only to be told it was someone smoking in the room

First and foremost you cannot ask for a better location. 1 minute walk to the harbour and 2 minute walk into the city centre. Tesco express next door to save paying £4.20 a pint The Berkeley pub is a 1 minute walk and serves a good breakfast for £4 The hotel rooms need some updating but the staff are friendly. The underground car park is good value for £3 a night All in all, highly recommended and please find 30 minutes to walk to the Hoe and go around the park

Lovely warm welcome by the receptionist who was very helpful and efficient - a very good start to our stay. As our room was not quite ready (as we were very early) she offered to keep hold of our luggage whilst we went down to the Gin Festival that we had come to attend at the Guildhall. We returned later and were given a high level superior room on 7th Floor, next to the lifts and with a stunning sea view - all of which I had requested. We've stayed at this hotel on several occasions mainly because of its proximity to the ferry terminal and as it also offers family rooms. The main lobby and bar area has been refurbished and the bar staff are welcoming and the service is always excellent. Sadly the refurb budget didn't stretch to the family room, which although large, was tired and worn. We encountered several issues - bad smell of drains in the room, poor wifi and no working TV. Not a bad hotel by any means, though the bar service (not elsewhere, only the bar) was offhand bordering on rude. However, the price is far too high for the standard, which is little better than budget level. If you're staying in Plymouth shop around, because you don't get what you pay for here.

We stayed in the Holiday Inn, Plymouth which is well situated right next to the Hoe and a short walk to the Barbican. The ground floor reception area seems to have had a recent refurbishment which gives a good welcoming impression. I had booked the room several weeks in advance and when I booked I was surprised at the cost which was £134, room only, + £3 for parking which I consider to be reasonably high for a room outside of London. The rooms are clean and tidy with a good set of toiletries in the bathroom. This Holiday Inn is in need of a desperate update. In a good location, but is let down by the condition of the rooms. No fridge, (why is it that hotels in the UK don't have fridges??) so you can't cool down anything,, maybe they should replace the old trouser press with a usable fridge that guests would get some use out of. Breakfast is served on the top floor and parking is on site with entry at the back of the hotel,, but,, BEWARE.. it is very tight and narrow.

Stayed before and after our Spanish holiday - A very tired hotel (apart from the Bar area which has been 'done up' - the beds were comfortable but the rooms were depressing. No safe in one room. The bathroom smelt seriously stale (room 713). The breakfast was OK but chaotic - the supposedly 'hot' items looked unappetising as if they had been warming for ages. Staff were OK - pity they have to work in such poor surroundings.

We stayed for one night as a family to see a show at the theatre royal and really liked this hotel. True it is in need to some maintenance in the odd place (broken and missing floor tiles in the changing area) but I think this is being addressed as all the other public areas looked brand new and modern. Our room was clean and tidy and quiet. We ate in the bar and found the food to be excellent value as kids eat free and we were given a voucher for free drinks. It was tasty and cooked as we ... I have stayed at this hotel before and it is definitely showing its age. The staff are excellent but I had specifically booked the hotel for the air-conditioning which was not working. It was eventually coaxed into life the next day but really took up far too much of my time. Breakfast was OK but the croissant I picked up was very stale and the whole thing seemed a bit chaotic, staff chasing guests around the restaurant to get their room numbers. So happy work put me in here for 6 weeks. The rooms are very spacious and for the most part modernish. Some of the bathrooms are newer than others. What could be nicer than having breakfast on the top floor while looking over the harbour. Although get there early as the windows steam up. The staff have been amazing working around my night shifts. And having a pool is so needed after a 12 hour shift

Stayed at the Holiday Inn a few times and always enjoyed myself here. As the title says, the hotel's decor is a little dated but this is clearly in hand as there are plans (and signs) telling guests that this will be updated to a Crowne Plaza in the not too distant future. The standard rooms are of a decent size and well equipped with comfortable beds and a good shower.
