We had a garden room with harbour view. This was good as we had use of sun loungers etc. from our room. The room was spotless, well maintained, tastefully decorated, with good quality furniture. Some might find it on the small size, but as we spent time in the garden, not a problem for us. As well as a quality tea/coffee tray, free bottled water was provided, which is always nice. We loved how the bathroom was decorated. The shower was over the bath, of note was how powerful it was, Al... Read more

The view is stunning and the staff are really lovely and helpful. I love padstow and I was a bit surprised by the General up keep of the hotel, the small detail is important. At first glance our room looked very nice and it was - but is was not clean, the paint work was dirty , tea and coffee splashes and the bin was disgusting. Which is a shame because otherwise it's a nice hotel .

The room was nice but despite being 2 adults and our 9 year old In room...she obviously wasn't expected to have a drink, only 2 cups to have a drink left, only 2 bottles of bottled water, only 2 packets of biscuits. Shame, would have thought if 3 have paid 3 would be accommodated for, for a room refreshment. You get a £30 dinner allowance, but take into account the main fillet beef is £30. Very difficult to review this hotel. Its in an excellent position & has a very good restaurant but is just not up to the standard it aspires to, despite trying very hard. As always its the little things that matter : - quite welcoming front desk including a phone call to our room after a quarter of an hour to ask if we were OK - however, when they phoned us prior to our visit ("courtesy call") they offered an evening meal option but when we accepted they said the first night there was a large p... We were staying in Padstow and on a miserable drizzly morning we popped in for coffee. Sitting in the lounge facing the sea was very relaxing . We then ordered a snack lunch . Which was eventually delivered and was ok although why it took 15 minutes for the roll to join the soup I do not know. Tithe staff were welcoming and very friendly . Corridors are still creaky and stairs a little dusty but rooms are comfortable and we had a good bathroom with plenty ... Read more

With a great location and amazing views this hotel could be so much more with some investment to modernise and update the decor. We booked our weekend away quite late and this was one of only a few places that had a room left. Our room was a lovely corner room though on arrival it smelt quite musty and we had to open all windows to give the room a good airing. The staff were all very helpful and breakfast in the morning was delicious. Sausages are definitely worth trying. One small gripe - ... Read more

Famed for its position overlooking Padstow harbour, the hotel is certainly a grand building! I was greeted by very friendly staff and my room was ready although I was several hours early. I was pleasantly surprised to have a harbour facing room and although comfortable, the room was a lite on the shabby side, and rather chilly! Breakfast was included and what an amazing spread! Evening meals I took in town people watching, however there was an extensive a la carte menu suitable for any foodie! A... Read more

The previous ownership by Trust House is still obvious in the public areas and the bedrooms, but maybe thats because Trust House got it right all those years ago. Our bedroom was comfortable with a good sized en suite. The surprise was the food. Padstow is a food place but we were only expecting 'hotel' food, instead we got food of the highest quality, the lamb done two ways was wonderful. worth going just for dinner.

Quaint, olde worlde hotel that serves an amazing breakfast and is full of old world charm. Friendly, smiling local staff aim to please. Rooms quaint, yes in need of refurbishment but then would probably lose some charm. Magnificent views over Padstow Harbour and really the only place to stay in town for its location, ambience and charm. Try the kippers for breakfast, they are pretty damm good.

My biggest issue with this hotel is that it describes itself as a luxury hotel and quite simply it is not. There are good and bad points. Good stuff first: The food was good, the service was excellent, the location is great and the building looks lovely in a great setting and there it stops. The bad stuff: Our bathroom, although a decent size, looked awful - certainly not what anyone would call luxury! The grouting had gone brown in several areas, there was mould on the wall and the bath looked... Read more

looking forward to another great stay at The Metropole ... the deals they offer are exceptional with no lift in price during half term. Staff are very attentive and friendly, meals are very good in a dining room with great views . We next plan a stay in the English Riviera and will look at the Richardson Group Hotels .

The hotel is in a good location, but is looking tired both externally and internally. Breakfast had a poor selection of choice for both hot and cold foods, considering that the charge per person is £16.95 compared with a Premier Inn we stayed at on our way to Padstow that offered a superb selection of foods, priced at £8.95. Flowers where placed on each table, many of which could only be described as an experiment that had gone wrong. After dinner we then had coffee etc in the lounge, and that... Read more

A hotel well beyond retirement, the staff are nice and I'm sure are trying hard, but this place has exceeded its sell by date. Disappointed that the description on Expedia and reality diverged so much. The reviews on Trip Advisor were for the most part positive but I think that's about the efforts of the staff rather than the fabric of the hotel. Pulling up and looking at a frontage that looks derelict, and a car park so poor that we parked in the public car park down the hill left a feeling ... Read more

This is a good hotel. The staff are extremely friendly and keen to please in every respect especially Lisa on the reception who is the epitome of what a receptionist should be. She is very friendly, helpful and knows her way around the various systems to ensure her guests are happy and have a good break. The breakfast was only ok and was served by very cheerful staff who are a credit to the hotel. It is a hotel which I can best describe as like those I used to stop in in the 50's and 60's and it... I have read the many reviews and agree with much of what has been said. The staff are very helpful and pleasant, the food is excellent as is the location. My wife and I needed a short break after a patchy and tiring summer, a relaxing recharging of batteries. We have stayed at this hotel many times and like the amazing position and fantastic views of the Camel estuary. The general feel is warm and cosy although the place would benefit from a lot more refurbishment. However, I fear that a complete boutique makeover would push the prices up out of our reach! The staff are friendly but there is a feeling of disorganisation with no feeling of anyone being 'in charge'. This creates moments of confusion at reception and whilst most problems are trivial ... We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel, small enough to be personal, large enough to be efficient & reasonably priced. Staff very friendly & helpful. Rooms clean with decent bathroom. Central to "Padstein" so you can walk everywhere & leave car in their car park, for which there is a charge, but since parking in Padstow is such a nightmare that is a niggle worth tolerating! Would definitely return.

Most visiting Padstow know the Metropole hotel that you can view on the hilltop from the harbour. It is centrally located with adjacent parking and an outdoor swimming pool. It is within walking distance of the town; its eating and drinking establishments and shops. I found the prices were steep for the experience that we had. The bedrooms were roomy and comfortable, but then so are some national chains like Premier Inn. Again like others, the showers in the room can be temperamental with press... Read more

The hotel is an imposing structure over looking the harbour. Stayed there for 3 nights with my wife. We had a double room on the lower ground floor, over looking the harbour. The room had a door onto the patio. Every thing was very nice - as good as can be done with an old building. We were contacted before we went which was a very nice touch. Stayed on a Wednesday evening and found the hotel to be of a slightly faded nature. The check in was efficent and courteous and my room was large and comfortable. I know it is an old building but i found that the quality of service more than made up for any shortcomings the hotel may have had. I have stayed at other Richardson properties and find the extremely well run and very comfortable establishments. If you are looking for a quality stay when in Padstow then the Metropole is just fine.
