Very well-located within reach of many amenities, but the traffic control area around the hotel was a nightmare. We failed to find the car park and therefore parked in a nearby NCP car park. We didn't have dinner in the hotel, but the breakfast was good. The room furnishings were adequate, if a little tired-looking and we would have expected a bath towel and hand towel for each person, rather than one of each to share.

I am a Gold card holder with the Accor loyalty scheme as such I have stayed at many Mercure and Novotel hotels, these being the mid price hotels in the group. When arranging our anniversary trip to Manchester I trawled the reviews on this site for all the Manchester Accor hotels. Now I have to say that when our daughter was at Uni. in Manchester we had admired the building which is now the Mercure because of it's architecture. So I thought it would be a great time to stay there. I must admit tha... Read more

I received an email to write a review from Mercure/Accore Hotels; I did so, but i know that future patrons will not be able to see my review. I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights while attending the Manchester United game that was cancelled against Bournemouth. I booked this hotel as I am an Accore member and secured a "high level room with a city view" and even added the bottle of champagne perk to celebrate my first Premier League game in Manchester. Upon arriving via taxi to the hotel, it was ... Read more

This is the second time I have been to the Mercure Manchester in Piccadilly Hotel, I can say that I am glad to see the bathrooms have been refurbished and the rooms, though small, are comfortable. I was disappointed with the service from check in to check out for the following reasons. At check in, this took about 15/20 minutes standing in line to talk to someone, there was no apology offered or thanks for waiting - a nice little touch could have been a towel offered as it had rained on the way... We stayed in this hotel last week and it is beautiful. Very close to all the bars and clubs. And looking into Piccadilly gardens you can't get much more central for all the shopping Manchester has to offer. The staff are great and the bars and restaurants are great in the hotel.

Great reception areas, but old and dated rooms which was so disappointing. We paid nearly £500 for 2 nights with parking and breakfast, but we could barely squeeze around the bottom of the bed, as the room was so small. Breakfast was underwhelming with poor service. Having to ask for tea and toast 3 times, and then having to hunt down a member of staff to actually get it was shocking. The good thing about the hotel is the location. That's about it. We went out, returned and walked straight past... Read more

The service here was great, the staff were attentive and welcomed us very warmly. I had arranged at booking for prosecco & chocolates to be in the room at arrival and they delivered exceptionally. The room was of a good size, but more importantly was spotlessly clean! We had a great view out over Piccadilly Gardens - it was exactly what we were hoping for!

First experience of this hotel, not hard to find, other than that I'm struggling for any positives Strange set up, reception is isolated from the entrance, lifts are small and take ages to arrive as there are 12 floors Beds were uncomfortable, can't open windows and it was a hot evening and if your room faces the tram line forget having a decent night sleep Breakfast was no better, poor service, and when I asked for poached eggs they took forever to arrive and we're dropped on my table with no... We held our conference here...the facilities were OK but the catering was below par... for example we found the salad served with the evening meal dressing free and the woman who managed the queue to be seated for breakfast an antidote to efficient and courteous service.

We were given a room on 10th floor which was small but comfortable but not 4 star quailty. Unfortunately, the stay was spoilt by external noise from either trams, drunks or both. The windows / frames / double glazing are in desperate need of upgrade. It would be impossible to give a sleep guarantee like the Premier Inn. Maybe the hotel manager should discuss with Transport for Greater Manchester the excessive tram noise and suggest that it can be reduced considerably with the introduction of "au... Read more

The location is absolutely spot on, it could hardly be more central so ideal for those who like me have business to conduct in town, i even found the car park! The views across the city from the top floor are superb so it was a shame the windows were a bit grubby. I stayed here as an event was taking place here so it was convenient, it is easy to get to from the station, the entrance is a bit odd as you need to use lifts to reach reception, the room was ok but there was a very long queue and unacceptable wait at reception, on arriving at 7.30pm this is frustrating and unnecessary, lots of other customers vented their annoyance in the queue and the lift, there should be people available to cope with fluctuations as this is a hotel after all, otherwise the ... Reception was disorganised and over familiar and the wait was way too long to check in. Room was small but fine and the bed was comfortable. The location was not ideal and when my colleague and I left the hotel to go for dinner we walked straight into a soup kitchen outside where fights were taking place and hard drugs were openly being taken. This was scary and for that reason alone i would avoid this area when staying in Manchester.

I've not left a bad review before but thought this needed to be said. We checked in Saturday at 2pm which took about 15 minutes as the check in process is long and arduous for some reason. The room was clean albeit a bit cramped, and had a pleasant view of the gardens outside. The lifts in the building are slow and there aren't enough for the amount of people in the hotel. There are two NCP Carparks - one next to the hotel and one across the road on the opposite side.

A great value stay at the Mercure Manchester. Bright airy room with comfortable bed. Bathroom looking tired and in need of updating, also needs better lighting over mirror - a bit tricky applying makeup! Be careful about choice of room. We went for view over quiet and there was a lot of noise coming from Piccadilly Gardens until quite late.

A wedding cake disaster was averted by the hotel's catering staff, they spent hours working on rescuing what they could and sourcing pink icing and ribbon. A flower cutter was rushed to the hotel by the lovely Lynette's husband, wide ribbon was sourced to try to put the cake back together with the aid of several dowels to pin the sponge and icing in place!! A 1960s relic (and not in a good way) the Mecure occupies a rather seedy block in central Manchester. The area is frequented by the homeless by day and hen/stag parties by night. As a regular, the withdrawal of any videos (free or paid for) was a surprise. Fortunately had Sky Go on my iPad. Handles on doors fine except for inside of bathrooms. A steamed up smooth metal doorknob on the inside of the bathroom door is a nightmare!!!

Arrived at hotel to book in. Receptionist said she was unable to find my booking. It took me 15 minutes to connect with Wi Fi to prove I had got a booking. Spoke to another Receptionist who found my booking immediately I gave my name and without looking at my confirmation. No apology given. No hotel information in room. When I mentioned this I was told there was a concierge on the ground floor who would help with any enquiries, but who wants to go down 9 flights of stairs to find out when the re... Read more

We have stayed at the Manchester Piccadilly several times over the last five years or so. It's central location makes it ideally placed to get in and out or the city centre. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The fact that the hotel has a car park has been a major draw for us as we live some distance from Manchester and rail connections are not convenient. Up until this last visit, we thought £15 for over night parking n top if the room rate was reasonable. However, since our last stay in Jun... Read more

Stayed for a conference which clearly overwhelmed the staff. Its like they werent expecting us. Cold breakfast on cold plates. Two members of staff running around like lunatics trying to get 360 folk through breakfast within an hour. Tiny room even though I am a loyalty card holder which they are aware of. Very overpriced drinks. Cocktails made with syrups, nothing fresh & only one person able to make them so they stopped as they got busy , well it was a saturday night so I would expect it to b... As a frequent user of Accor hotels, I have to say I wasn't very impressed by this hotel. The welcome was good, as always, but because of a few not-so-good details, it felt more like a Marriott hotel! The layout is weird - you have to go up a floor to reception. My room was right opposite the lift, so every 30 seconds or so, there was a bumping sound, which meant I could only sleep with the window open so that the street noise drowned out the bangs. The room was fine, bed very comfortable, bathr... Read more

The Piccadilly is right in the center of town convenient for the station, trams, busses and shopping. The rooms and restaurant are great. The stay was only let down by a couple of niggles. Breakfast started at 8:00am and I had to be at a conference at 08:30. When I got to the restaurant there was a big queue and the only 2 staff available insisted on showing every party to their individual tables. While this is commendable customer attention ,given the size of the queue, either more staff s... Read more

I booked Mercure Hotel on the day I was coming up to Manchester and I was not disappointed. When I arrived with my partner the check in line was very long, the staff were slow at checking in and there were only 2 staff on at 4:30pm, which working in a hotel myself I know is a busy check in period. However after the long moments went by I was greeted by one of the ladies who welcomed me to the hotel and was a delight, she made my first impressions of the hotel very good, I would like to thank the... Everyone chatting away about their own businesses and gossiping about who was gonna win what. Seated down on a table. We were asked what drinks we wanted and the night began. Awesome scenes as businesses were proud to win their awards. Chaopraya of Manchester won 5 awards on the night, and i saw won of my favourit... Read more

I have used Hitel before on a few occasions and it's been fine, but this time room was ok a bit small, breakfast was not the best, staff were great friendly and helpful. But getting round hotel using lifts was a joke we were on 12 floor and ended up waking on most occasions, only two lifts working so waiting was a joke, trying to get thro to reception was also a joke, so on this occasion not impressed I would only come back if I had to, enough hotels in Manchester to chose from.

Fabulous room and staff where great. I cant really fault the hotel or staff or food we were served. I have to say though as usual the prices where incredible. 20 quid for a bottle of wine which was dreadful and worth a quarter of that. However a fabulous night and would stay here in the future. We found a cheaper hotel thats why we didnt choose to book here.

Room - I echo what others have said in that this hotel is in dire need of smartening up. The rooms look tired and very dated. Food - Had breakfast both morning's of my stay and enjoyed it both days. Quick to be seated, prompt with toast and coffee. Plenty of choice that you would expect in a hotel breakfast (cereals, continental, cooked). Location - Perfect. Only a five minute walk from Piccadilly station and a few minutes further on to the Northern Quarter, Deansgate, etc.

We stayed here for one night to attend a gig at the Manchester Academy. The location is great with excellent views over the city. However, the rooms are small, dated and dirty. The facilities are in need of modernisation and the concierge on entry to the hotel was extremely rude to a man ahead of us and then to us too. It's really not worth the money and should be downgraded to a 2/3 star hotel. I wouldn't recommend staying any longer than a single night.

We chose this hotel mainly for the location, which you cannot fault, but you would expect a hotel in the city centre to be as sound proofed as possible and it isn't at all! Traffic noises all night long kept us awake and people slamming their doors and shouting in the room next door and the corridor meant we didn't fall asleep until 3am.
