Very well-located within reach of many amenities, but the traffic control area around the hotel was a nightmare. We failed to find the car park and therefore parked in a nearby NCP car park. We didn't have dinner in the hotel, but the breakfast was good. The room furnishings were adequate, if a little tired-looking and we would have expected a bath towel and hand towel for each person, rather than one of each to share.

I am a Gold card holder with the Accor loyalty scheme as such I have stayed at many Mercure and Novotel hotels, these being the mid price hotels in the group. I received an email to write a review from Mercure/Accore Hotels; I did so, but i know that future patrons will not be able to see my review. I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights while attending the Manchester United game that was cancelled against Bournemouth. This is the second time I have been to the Mercure Manchester in Piccadilly Hotel, I can say that I am glad to see the bathrooms have been refurbished and the rooms, though small, are comfortable. I was disappointed with the service from check in to check out for the following reasons. We stayed in this hotel last week and it is beautiful. Very close to all the bars and clubs. And looking into Piccadilly gardens you can't get much more central for all the shopping Manchester has to offer. The staff are great and the bars and restaurants are great in the hotel.

Great reception areas, but old and dated rooms which was so disappointing. We paid nearly £500 for 2 nights with parking and breakfast, but we could barely squeeze around the bottom of the bed, as the room was so small. Breakfast was underwhelming with poor service. The service here was great, the staff were attentive and welcomed us very warmly. I had arranged at booking for prosecco & chocolates to be in the room at arrival and they delivered exceptionally. The room was of a good size, but more importantly was spotlessly clean! We had a great view out over Piccadilly Gardens - it was exactly what we were hoping for!

We held our conference here...the facilities were OK but the catering was below par... for example we found the salad served with the evening meal dressing free and the woman who managed the queue to be seated for breakfast an antidote to efficient and courteous service.

We were given a room on 10th floor which was small but comfortable but not 4 star quailty. Unfortunately, the stay was spoilt by external noise from either trams, drunks or both. The windows / frames / double glazing are in desperate need of upgrade. It would be impossible to give a sleep guarantee like the Premier Inn. Our stay got off to a bad start, car park not clearly signposted and we ended up in the wrong one and had to move it. We then entered the hotel only to discover a huge queue to check in, eventually after 30 mins we got checked in. The staff were very apologetic and gave us a voucher each for a free drink. Booked 2 nights at this hotel as soon as the Stone Roses announced they were touring so I was lucky enough to get a double room for 2 nights at quite a reasonable price. I did try and book an extra night after the tickets went on sale but was quoted over £200 for the extra night so did not book. Excellent location, easy to find and the rooms were nice and clean. Stayed here whilst going to a gig at the Etihad stadium. Great hotel, fantastic location, 10mins max walk from Piccadilly station, friendly staff, rooms very clean, great linen, excellent value for money. Will definitely use again.

The location is absolutely spot on, it could hardly be more central so ideal for those who like me have business to conduct in town, i even found the car park! The views across the city from the top floor are superb so it was a shame the windows were a bit grubby. The reception area is lovely however I was let down by the room. The room was a little small and not what I expected for the price paid, but to be fair it was clean, tidy, comfy bed and in the city centre within walking distance to pubs and the metro service.

I stayed here as an event was taking place here so it was convenient, it is easy to get to from the station, the entrance is a bit odd as you need to use lifts to reach reception, the room was ok but there was a very long queue and unacceptable wait at reception, on arriving at 7.30pm this is frustrating and unnecessary, lots of other customers vented their annoyance in the queue and the lift, there should be people available to cope with fluctuations as this is a hotel after all, otherwise the ... Reception was disorganised and over familiar and the wait was way too long to check in. Room was small but fine and the bed was comfortable. The location was not ideal and when my colleague and I left the hotel to go for dinner we walked straight into a soup kitchen outside where fights were taking place and hard drugs were openly being taken. This was scary and for that reason alone i would avoid this area when staying in Manchester.

Stayed for a Friday night in the hotel prior to a business meeting on Saturday morning at 8am. They advertise 24 hour room service but at the weekend breakfast starts at 8am. I tried reception, room service and the concierge to see if I could get breakfast at 7am. Believe it or not I could have a room service dinner in the morning but not breakfast. When you pay £70.00 for a hotel room and breakfast, you do not expect to have to pay £25.00 for parking! Disgusting. Room was fine but big queues at reception (who puts one member of reception on a saturday morning?)and had to ask 3 times for tea and coffee at breakfast. Noisy rooms, could hear next door's tv as clear as a bell. Not worth the money at all.

I've not left a bad review before but thought this needed to be said. We checked in Saturday at 2pm which took about 15 minutes as the check in process is long and arduous for some reason. Stayed one night for a special retirement celebration. Decided to upgrade the standard room to a superior suite. The sales staff were most helpful in arranging the upgrade. It was well worth the extra as the room was superb with a separate seating area. We stayed over the weekend and arrived about 4.30pm after a long flight and there was a huge que just to check in. Not the best start. The lifts arent the quickest either. I've booked in here because the conference I'm attending is just downstairs in the morning. It's very central and easy reach of the railway station and some OK restaurants. The bed is actually comfortable enough but reception was disorganised, it all feels a bit run down and old fashioned and I know there are nicer places in Manchester to stay.

The hotel's location is its best asset- very central. Although it can be noisy. Check in took an age as the receptionist was struggling with the system- I don't know what took so long though as I had pre-paid for the booking. I had booked a superior suite- it was fine although we were on the top floor the 14th it was noisy from the buses and trams.We also not told at check in that the suites were not numbered and had names so it took us a while to locate our room. We were at the Hotel in the beginning of June and everything was excellent. The rooms were clean every day. The staff was very friendly and helpfull if there was anything we needed. We will defenately come back again :)

Stayed here on business with colleague. Good location 5 mins walk from train. Room small but adequate. Very clean. View over Piccadilly gardens meant it was quite noisy. Bed not as comfortable as travel lodge or premier inn which I was surprised about. Pillows like rock, very disappointing woke with sore neck. Breakfast perfectly adequate.

Stayed here one night, with friends, for a night out in Manchester. Reception staff were very friendly and a pleasure to deal with. Room was small but very clean and comfortable. Good that we were offered a quiet room or one overlooking 'noisier' location. Only downside was the very expensive breakfast (we chose to go local for that...great places nearby). Would def recommend.

Great location. There was a queue at check in but our booking was processed quickly. We had a view of Piccadilly gardens which was at times noisy but it was part of the buzz of being in the city centre. The standard room was comfortable and had a good night's sleep. A little difficult to find the entrance (but I had been before) and the area of entry a bit scruffy but had a suite with good views of the city (overlooking Picadilly) for the price of a standard room in many Manchester hotels. No complaints and good value for money.

Very friendly reception staff. Nice clean room overlooking Picadilly Gardens. Huge bath plus shower. Lots of plugs, mirrors and biscuits included with tea making facilities. Very clean. Bar and restaurant very nice views, good service - breakfast very good. Lifts very weird! Did not always go where I wanted them to!

This hotel is in a great location but the rooms have thin walls compared to other hotels.. even if you ask for the quiet rooms you can hear people talking 3 rooms down!If you are a light sleeper i would advice taking ear plugs just in case!

Don't let the outside appearance put you off! The inside is lovely, very upmarket! Staff very friendly and helpful. Room was clean and the view over Manchester was amazing. All in all disappointed... Customer service clearly isn't a high priority for this chain of hotels. Booked in eventually after being made to wait for 10 minutes with no apology. Manchester was our last stop before heading back to Australia and we arrived early in the morning to the hotel (around 9am). Our room was free so they allowed us to head up early at no extra charge. The room was clean and tidy and the bathroom was clean and spacious. The hotel is centrally located which is great. Access to shopping, restaurants and bars is quick and easy. We booked a room with a city view and although we expected the room to be a bit bigger, we were not dissapointed with the view. The rooms are on the smaller size and they could do with a fridge. home from after a two night stay , booking in was a night mare had to go into town for at least 3 hours because there lines were down, came back room 901 very in need of a refit!!!, bedding had holes in it and marks on sheets, bathroom was totally dirty around the door frame and floor was nasty.

Having had a 6.5 hour trip up from London in bad traffic on M6 and arriving at the hotel within half an hour of needing to be at a cricket match at Old Trafford. The reception team booked a cab for us, took our luggage up to the room checked us in and we arrived on time to meet our guests.

Stayed here for 3 nights inclusive of breakfast, which was priced at £18.50 each. Far too expensive in my view. The room was clean, warm, the bed was very comfortable, however I didn't sleep well due to the pillows being too hard for me..my husband didn't complain though. A great location and a clean hotel. Check in was slow and painful. I thought breakfast was expensive considering the competition from other well known restaurants around the hotel. Reception is on the 3rd floor and not, as I thought, on the ground floor (a bit confusing)!
