Very relaxing few days at the beautiful Lynton Cottage Hotel ! We have stayed here before in 2013 went back because we had such a lovely time before . This time was probably even better than before - beautiful rooms - we had the CS Lewis suite - views must be seen to be believed - very pleasent courteous staff - always smiling .

Simply love this hotel. Stayed off season when I was doing some work in the Watersmeet area, and liked it so much I've been wanting to bring my husband back for a long weekend. I received a promotional email, which I NEVER respond to, but this one sounded like a good deal over the bank holiday, so I booked a surprise getaway for us, which ended up turning into a whole week away. We stayed three nights with a fantastic breakfast with loads of choices included every day. The room was comfy, th... Read more

The views over Lynmouth and Countisbury from this hotel are stunning. Our room had been refurbished to a high standard with large four poster bed, large bathroom and 2 comfortable lounge chairs with views looking over the sea. Breakfast and evening meal in the restaurant overlooking the sea both good. More variety on vegetables would help - we had the same 2 nights running and they were not that great. Worst point was that we could hear audio from the adjoining room for a long period - we mentio... Read more

We recently stayed for three nights in the Bay View Suite and our stay was just lovely. We were looked after very well by the team and left totally relaxed and revived. The view from the hotel is just unbeatable even when it's raining. The food was delicious and the breakfasts were the best. I do feel the evening menu could be seasonal just for a change. I totally recommend a stay here.

After checking out the hotels website and pictures which looked great, My wife booked the bay view suite (room 6) for a rare night away, unfortunately the reality of the room did not live up to expectations. Firstly the price £189 which is not an issue in itself, but when you book a suite I would expect an actual suite, to my mind putting a chaise longue in an average size hotel room that needs lots of TLC does not make it a suite and is not worth £189. My biggest gripe is after speaking to t... Read more

I booked two nights in the C S Lewis suite for my wife and I (a birthday present for us both) and we absolutely loved it. I must say that the web site description and the room we stayed in matched in every way - stunning views from all three windows over the sea and down to Lynmouth. The bed was huge and very comfortable, the sitting area was dleightful, the bathroom amazing, and everything was spotlessly clean. The hotel is right in the centre of Lynton yet tucked away in a very private locatio... Read more

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Lynton Cottage Hotel. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The rooms were beautiful - room 4, and room 1 (ground floor room with patio area). Very comfortable beds and pillows, bathrooms were great and had everything we required. The hotel is in a fabulous location, and good for exploring the surrounding area. The hotel, rooms, location are what it says on the Web site. Thankyou to all the staff, we will definitely visit again!

The views are incredible - we had Room 1 which may be one of the best but view from the dining room is equally spectacular. Lovely old building which really has kept its traditional feel while being very comfortable. Staff among the friendliest and most helpful I've come across. Food excellent, perhaps could do with a little more variety eg the veg, but done to such a high standard. So quiet, feels like you're miles from anywhere but actually it's just round the corner from the town centre. Woul... Read more

This is a lovely little hotel in a charming cliff top village. We had a spacious, ground floor room with a private terrace away from the the rest of the hotel. A modern bathroom and large comfortable bed complete the picture. Dinner (pre ordered) was very good with great sea views from the in house restaurant. Very enjoyable. The staff are Polish students and are keen, helpful and enthusiastic. So far so good. The hotel however has a policy of employing students and according to the room co... Read more

Other traveller reviews and photos encouraged us to book our stay here and although we were not disappointed, we were just a little let down at what another reviewer described as the 'small stuff'. We were happy with our check in which was a little early with a helpful young lady . We just knew as soon as we sat in the bar area waiting that the hotel was 'tiring' a bit. Mainly in that noticing the outside patio area had seen better days with the somewhat neglected patio plants/tubs and the wind... Read more

Booked fairly last minute and got an good deal on booking.com. Very pleased with our room, and the wonderful sea view. Decided to eat here in the evening too, and the meal was perfectly acceptable, again very pleased that our table had a wonderful sea view. Breakfast was good, with a good choice of hot food. Would stay here again, great location for Lynton and plenty of parking, which isn't the case with many hotels along the North Walk. Staff were lovely.

Got a last-minute deal on the ground-floor terrace room, which was very comfortable with a great view of the sea and our own little terrace to sit out if we wished. The staff were really pleasant and helpful, and breakfasts were all you could wish. Amused myself (and probably irritated my wife!) trying it identify the singers (late 50s / early 60s) of the background music at breakfast - Johnny Tillotson, Susan Maughan, Bobby Vee, Buddy Holly, etc etc. Downside for me was having "Happy Birthday S... The room was comfortable and clean. The staff were nice but let down by the standoffish attitude of the owner who just seemed to be disinterested. The food on offer was nothing like this hotel used to be and we were disappointed. We understand that the hotel is due to be converted to apartments next year and this shows in the whole attitude. The hotel should be great but even if the building work does not start, we will be staying elsewehere next year

Booked as a surprise romantic couple of days for my birthday, my partner had hoped to have found somewhere really quite lovely! And it should have been for the price. But sadly the dated old hotel, really disappointed. On a plus, the bed was comfy, the hotel was clean and the bathroom was generous. The grounds were a mess, nothing about the place felt charming, instead it felt dated, cheap and a little tacky (aside the lovely bathroom) The security light outside illuminated the room all night... We had a lovely stay at this hotel and were given a free upgrade to the Bay View suite which had stunning views and a four poster bed. It is ideally located in Lynton and close to some nice restaurants and cafes. The staff are friendly and helpful and the cooked breakfast is made to order with a wide choice. I think the cold, buffet option could be extended by offering croissants/pastries and a wider choice of cereals. Otherwise the rest of the stay was idyllic.

Reviews of the hotel are likely to mention location, views, convenience. The first two are amazing. Just believe. Convenience. Parking is close to the front door (wherever you are). Central Lynton is 50 yards away. The Cliff Railway is 150 yards away. The room was simply but elegantly furnished and the hotel has a pretty bar/lounge with french windows with sea views. The hotel food was good and the staff always friendly and attentive. The Lynton Cottage Inn is a perfect place to de-compress from the stresses and strains of your daily routine. The boss and I decided, at the last minute (perhaps rather foolishly) that we had had enough and needed to get away to recharge batteries.
