Booked this hotel Online. Arrived at the hotel after travelling for over 24 hours from Asia mostly by aircraft. The staff at Reception was very Rude on Check-in. Told us to come after 2 pm (normal check in time) to be allocated a room. This was after informing the staff our situation. There was no area for us to sit and wait till 2pm! There was a private function in the bar. Had to aimlessly wonder the street and park despite being exhausted! Guest WiFi password was also only given to us ... Read more

Our yearly stay in London with mum, Aunt, Cousin and myself. We booked Hotel Russell as it is very convenient for shopping, shows and local attractions. With 2 elderly relatives it is not too far to walk to some places and easy to get taxis which the hotel arranges/hales for you. The rooms were very nice, a little tired but clean and comfortable. My mum and aunt had the best room by chance as they always seem to every year! The staff were very helpful and pleasant. The breakfast was excell... Read more

Stayed for 2 nights on business. Grand building near Euston, 1 mile from Thames, opposite the park. Inside had grand feel. Nice stair case which I used rather than the pokey lift. Room was small with very large ensuite, two small balconies. TV, coffee, air con, mini-bar. Sleep was good, room very clean. Tv had one of the annoying hotel menus rather than straight to TV which appeared to have poor signal but TV and radio OK. Breakfast was good. Quite expensive compared to other local hotels and I ... When I arrived was a kind of event in the hotel with lots of people, and a room was offered me in the last floor. It was small, but nice and very quite. The service was good and they gave me the needed information about transport in the city, shuttle to return to the airport, etc. Only thing, I would improve the breakfast adding more options for vegetarians, as some fresh vegetables, but anyway I was happy with the quality.

The hotel Russell is a very large Victorian hotel, which looks as though it was once very grand. It seems to have retained many original features. It is beautiful from the outside, has doormen at the entrance who are charming and friendly and will offer to help you with your bags, or to call a cab etc. There are about 6 steps at the front of the hotel, but once inside, I think it would be very easily manoeuvred by anyone in a wheelchair due it it having the most gorgeous spacious corridors and ... Situated in a highly convenient central location just round the corner from a tube station, this hotel struck me as both nostalgically beautiful and depressingly functional at one and the same time. The main staircase and central lobby allow one to dream you are in a bygone age. They are beautifully restored and well worth the price of a room. The bed was comfortable, though the lighting in the room was inadequate for late-night working.Breakfast

I have just returned from a one night stay with work where many rooms in the hotel were booked out for our staff and customers attending an event locally. The hotel is very grand from the outside and also when you walk into the lobby. It feels very spacious throughout with wide corridors leading to the rooms. A far cry from many modern hotels. My room was a single and was perfectly adequate and rooms have free wi-fi. It had a window that you could open to get fresh air (again a pleasant sur... Read more

I was keen to return to Hotel Russell having stayed with friends for a birthday weekend last year so, when my husband and I were visiting London to see War of the Worlds, that was a good enough excuse to me. Last year our twin room was a good size overlooking the gardens. This year our double room was significantly smaller and overlooked a side street, but still with a partial garden view. If I hadn't stayed last year I wouldn't have been so disappointed. What I really hated was the fact that ... Read more

Stayed Sunday night, 5th June 2016. Awful, loud Bangra-type music going on until midnight with a wedding party on the ground floor. The Hotel gave no consideration to its paying guests who only wantd a quiet night after a long journey. No soundproofing, even closing the windows would have helped. Almost £160 to stay here. Had to stay out of my house for building work, got a decent deal, spent the night. Fantastic room, lots of space, comfy bed, shame the view was off the mechanics of the hotel rather than the square, that could be made more aesthetic for sure! The charm and character of this space is amazing. I really enjoyed my stay, the space is truly unique. The bar was enjoyable to try, the food a little on the standard size.

Appreciated how helpful and kind the staff was. Rooms were very small but adequate, but it is an old hotel which gives it some charm. It was fairly clean and comfortable. Colors were dark in the hotel rooms and the rooms were decorated somewhat modern instead of traditional, which I would expect in an old hotel.

This gorgeous hotel is in a great location. Very close to the British museum and tube, making site seeing easy. We had a lovely spacious corner room at the front overlooking the park. The dining room was fantastic and made breakfast a memorable experience. We stayed with our 8yr old daughter, and I'm sure the hotel will stay etched in her memory, as the staff and amenity enhanced our London holiday. I look forward to visiting again in the future.

In the most part we had a great stay, we stayed in room 709,it was lovely on the top floor. There was only one problem we had in that there is only a white blind at the bedroom area window. As it is summer we were awake at 4.00am both mornings, it could do with either curtains or a black out blind. Also there was no shelf in the shower? .Other than that the staff were excellent and can't do enough to help.Definately returning at Christmas.

The hotel is a little tired in places, our rooms were rather small, and the drip bar on the bath/shower screen had come off. We had to move furniture to access drawers and the side of the bed. The wardrobe in the first room we stayed in was not wide enough to accommodate coat hangers. A longer stay with 2 people would have needed one of their larger rooms. Having enjoyed a fantastic stay at Hotel Russell back in 2011, I decided to book two rooms for a 'girls trip' to London in April. I'm not too sure why, but after looking at other hotel prices for comparison, Hotel Russell proved to be one of the cheapest of the higher end hotels. The price we got was an absolute bargain. Great for the West End etc. However I was in a single room and it really was very small indeed. Single bed, sink & small desk. Having said that you're either going to pay £££s for a decent room in this area or pay less for an economy room and get what you pay for. Breakfast was a let down on all three days I stayed. Luke warm eggs and a pretty poor buffet. Again you get what you pay for and with their overheads you'd expect a few corners to be cut. If you're staying a couple of nights... Read more

As this is an old building you can forgive its shortcomings. The rooms are comfortable and modern but the modernisation of the fabric has caused a few issues. The central courtyard has all the extraction and air-con fans in it. They can be very noisy at times during the night. The highlight of the hotel has to be the amazing central staircase.

Although we didn't manage to use the facilities or the restaurant, it's very clean hotel with comfortable bed (well our double bed was ???) It's 1 of the oldest hotels in London with lots of original features still in place. It's about a 10 minute walk from Euston Street train station.

Very nice hotel, had stayed before but love the new look. Staff very friendly and helpful. Stayed in a suite a could not fault. Previous visit rooms needed a make over and pleased to say they have come up trumps. Looking forward to next visit.

This hotel is unbelievably well located: central Bloomsbury, very close to Senate House, and also a stone's throw away from Oxford Street for all your shopping. The front desk was helpful and friendly; the front area is lavishly furnished, raising the expectations for the room quite high... However, the rooms are nothing like the foyer. They are absolutely tiny -- it's fine for one person, but it was less than ideal for two. The bathroom was so small that there was even a comical sign that y... Read more

We always make a point of staying a 'The Russell' when in town and never disappointed! Hotel is so very traditional and possibly in need of refurbishment but, the location, the staff (very welcoming, knowledgeable locals, without frills - if you want to know anything local, just ask!) and the ambience is perfect for everything West End. Breakfast and Bar is just the 'order of the day' but too much going on locally dinner wise to have dined, so cannot comment. A firm favourite, when in the ar... Read more

If you want to experience that victorian feel and as they say, the lobby is 'Titanic' inspired. A very short walk to the nearest station (2 mins!) Staff were overall very friendly and we also met a Pinoy over there, but he already grew up in London. The buffet breakfast was mediocre, so we recommend to just dine on nearby restaurants.

We had a very big room and it had recently been updated. Beautiful old world lobby of marble, historic, but completely updated. Great vie of Russell Square and steps from the tube. Super easy airport access on the tube. Great bar and a nice happening neighborhood.

We consider only the Hotel Russell for three reasons: 1) Flying into Heathrow you can go down to the trains and alight a little over an hour later at the hotel. Do not know of another hotel in London where this is possible. This can save a good deal of money (up to $100 or more in a taxi) and time. No waiting for a bus, taxi, changing tube lines, etc. 2) I have mild health issues. I do not know of another hotel with a tube stop in such close proximity. This makes getting around London ea... Came last year for my 20th birthday and stayed in this hotel we were given the 'couples experience room' which was nice! They had given us a bottle of bubbly, rose petals on the bed and little chocolates! Only stayed the night so didn't sample the restaurant nor the bar but looked very good! The reception was polite and very efficient! We had a nice stay and would like to thank the hotel.
