We spent one night at this hotel while attending an event at the Old Truman Brewery. The hotel is on a busy road, a short walk from the Overground station. The area is also well served by buses. The check-in was quick and efficient (a relief, as the hotel was booked by a third party on our behalf). The room was very modern and comfortable. The bathroom was very nice. There was a flat-screen TV, and all the usual things you would expect. I left my electric toothbrush in the hotel, and when I ... Read more

Commercial road is not the finest address but a short walk takes you towards the City and great spots such as Spittalfields and Bishopsgate etc. Very comfortable, clean and helpful staff. Secure feeling also which is important in this area. Nicely appointed bar and Food menu was pretty extensive. Breakfast buffet is good quality and friendly service on hand.

Stayed there for a couple of days and location was good - close to a tube station as well as overground (5 min walk both) and some small restaurants (more like kebab places) nearby, subway, grocery etc. Staff was v helpful anytime I asked them for anything, mostly directions though ... Lady at front office remembered and followed up to find out if I found the place and were the directions useful. A bar and a restaurant, small gym not well equipped but functional.

On a positive note, our room was very spacious and well-appointed. However we upgraded to a package that included free use of the mini bar during our 2 night stay; however we were informed on Day 2 that no items used would be replaced. After querying this misleading "carrot" to get you to upgrade, they relented. Location is seedy and you don't feel safe after dark outside.

Bar staff was delightful and helpful. Food was a different matter altogether - tuna wrapped was very poor value for money. It was meant to be 'a tuna wrap with crisps £8.95 (tuna mayo, red onion, cucumber, sweet corn in a tortilla wrap) I searched for the onion and sweet corn and found none. And perhaps at that price a few pieces of lettuce? See photo - seriously unattractive food!

I'm going to keep this short and sweet! The hotel was nice and clean, the staff was extremely friendly. We had a twin room and it was very spacious. The bathroom came with a tub and the tub was a bit high to step into. The wifi is strong!! The hotel itself isn't bad - it's a good new-looking HI with all of the usual amenities. The room was clean and comfortable, staff very pleasant and there was a good bar area. Also free WiFi which worked perfectly. The main problem is the location which isn't massively pleasant - lots of boarded up shops / houses and no bars or restaurants that I would choose to visit. Check in smooth and made to feel welcome immediately by reception staff - using my IHG card I was even given a free cup of coffee. Room was beautiful, spacious and quiet and joy of joys ... a face cloth in the bathroom. OK, so my joy might be a wee bit OTT but you'd be surprised now just how many hotels neglect to provide a face cloth so many of us travellers find essential. I have to say, this was indeed a very nice hotel. ALL of the staff (well, save one I guess) were always helpful and polite. At first on arrival, we were a bit apprehensive because the area looked a bit seedy. We were not too happy with the "clientel" living in the area either. The location on the Commercial road is cosmopolitan, but not glamorous and there is a lot of development going on (building work for the Crossrail project). I previously lived in the area and so felt safe wandering round, but I can see that if you don't know the area it could feel unsafe at night. Hotel staff were very friendly with decent service. May be a little far out for some tourists who'd prefer to walk to sights rather than tube it. Area is nice and diverse being just on outskirts of the city's continued gentrification.

I normally stay in a Holiday Inn (I collect the points) more central, but due to budget, this one popped up. It is only 5 mins from Shadwell. I was made welcome by Prince Alexander , the manager. I would stay here again as it is convenient to the tube, and Commercial Road bus routes, and it is a good price.

Stayed here for a few nights while at a conference- selected the hotel because it was near to the thing I was going to. Thought it was excellent! There is a starbucks, bar and restaurant if you want food or coffee. Only thing I would have liked was breakfast finishing a bit later- I was working from lunch time till late night so would have liked a but more of a lie in.
