Through the mysteries of Priceline, I found myself once again at a hotel I had intended to avoid. This time I had the good fortune to land in a bigger and marginally better room but I was struck once again by the disconnect between expectations of a four-star experience and the reality of this hotel. Along with the fabulous location, more space and a better TV selection were the highlights; a sagging mattress and shabby sofa the lowlights.

Hotels need to satisfy the Four S test in my view and the Best Western The Cromwell gets a 3 out of 4. Looked like a recently refurbished room Sleep ( A comfortable bed) - Small room with just enough space to walk round the bed but a really comfortable King Size bed..Shower (A good shower) - Room had a rainfall shower (Not my favourite) but was strong and powerful in a newly refurbished bathroom. Sound ( Full blackout with a soundproofed room) - Small room but double door from corridor to bedr... Read more

This Hotel is ideally situated a 5 minute taxi ride from the Royal Albert Hall. Warning hail a taxi outside to a) get a proper cab and b) save 50% on the price. Gloucester Rd station is just across the road as is Waitrose, Tesco and a variety of restaurants.

My Fiance and I showed up to the hotel with our travel backpacks on. The women at the front desk didn't welcome us but just asked us if we were checking in without even making eye contact with us. I work in the hotel industry and as a head receptionist I know that one of the basic things to do, is to welcome your guests. As I answered the basic questions to get us checked in, I made it clear that I would like a room with natural light. She gave us keys to our room and seemed irritated that I had... Read more

This is not a luxurious hotel, but it has personality and is in a magnificent location at an unbeatable price (if you get it under $100 as we did). The room was small but comfortable, the stairs steep, but there is a lift, and the staff was kind. They allowed early check in and kept our luggage until the evening.

Booked this hotel through Hotel tonight for a really good price. Breakfast was good plenty of choice. Room was fairly small however although we didNt mind too much since we didn't spend too much time. We picked this for the gym, but wasn't worth it. Not enough weights or machines. Best thing it's close to the subway station.

An ideal hotel for access to attractions like The Royal Albert Hall and Knightsbridge. Lots of places to eat and drink within walking distance. Black cab to and from the Albert Hall was approx £12-£15 both ways. Hotel wasn't the most expensive nor cheapest. Good value for money given the area. Bar service was a bit slow around check in times but later in the evening there was no issues with getting a drink. The room was clean and tidy. The mattress has seen better days but it was enough for a ... Read more

After checking in found that we were in a basement room without natural light. Asked to be moved to a room with a window and was given another room. Cannot understand why wasn't given better room in the first place. Room was very small but clean. Breakfast was nice. Places to eat nearby. Good basic place to stay.

The first thing to remember is that most hotel rooms are much smaller than what we're used to in the US. With that being said, this was a good little hotel. I did have issues with the a/c, and eventually did get moved to another room. Staff was very helpful and friendly with any questions we had about how to get somewhere. I would definitely stay here again.

This was probably our 4th or 5th stay at this hotel. We booked now because we have enjoyed our stay here until now. Now it seems as if everything is getting a bit "tired" and out-warn. F.ex., the matresses and the pillows in the bed were very uncomfortable. The breakfast was ok but they didn´t have enough of everything all the time which I think is a bit embarrassing for a respectable hotel. The staff however was superb as usual. Friendly and helpful in all ways. Will probably try a different h... Read more

The service was incredibly friendly but not intrusive. I'd gone for a solo holiday to spend time alone, so although I did a lot of things elsewhere; I also spent a fair amount of time relaxing with a book in my room. The room was simple but very nice. Comfiest bed I have ever stayed in, tea, coffee and hot chocolate facilities, a lovely bathroom. And my compliments to the cleaners that do a fabulous job at keeping the hotel spotless. We stayed twice at the Cromwell over the course of a month. The first room was on the top floor, very small (but nice), and very hot as the AC was ineffective. The second visit, the room was larger, cooler, and had a small balcony, with table and chairs, overlooking a garden in back of the hotel. Based upon both experiences, I would probably give the hotel a 3.5 overall rating. The staff is quite nice and helpful and the hotel is in a great location by the Gloucester Road tube station.

Conveniently located for Central London, this is a pleasant and reasonably priced hotel. My double room was fine for 1 person but would be a bit cramped for 2. Ensuite bathroom was modern. It's a shame soap isn't provided at the hand-basin. The breakfast service is good and the hotel has a small gym if you have the time to work out.

Got a great o/night rate and would have reviewed but within seconds of arrival was told we had been upgraded to the Park International its sister hotel just down the road. Immediately thought overbooked and dreaded what was ahead but quickly found out we had been put in a much more expensive hotel - so don't worry if they move you there. Ratings for Cromwell based simply as mid range average - take no notice.

This hotel is conveniently located within a few minutes walk to Gloucester Road station. However, the hotel does not have step-free access from street to the hotel lobby, will need to carry luggage up 3 steps. The room is spacious enough for one person to stay. However, the walls of the room were a bit thin, sometimes can hear noise from adjacent room when people move in and out of the room. One thing to note, the Piccadilly line Gloucester Road tube station is also not completely step-free, it ... Read more

The hotel is steps away from the tube, a short walk from Oxford Circus road for shopping and Hyde Park, and only a 35 min tube from Heathrow. For London, the room was bigger than expected, updated and very clean. The front desk was also accommodating with a late check-out. Would definitely recommend and stay here again.

Stayed here overnight while attending a conference in Westminister. Very close to the tube so perfect location and reasonably priced. The room was typically small as is the case in London but it was lovely. The air con was very welcome. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The best for me was the super comfortable double bed. So comfortable I slept in and missed breakfast! Would definitely stay again.

We got this hotel when using a "Secret break" from Agoda and for the location, less than £100 a night wasn't bad at all. We had a basement room without any windows but this was ideal for what we wanted. Each night we had a fantastic sleep without any outside noise. The room was moderately sized with decent storage and a shower. The bed was comfy and the staff were polite and helpful. I would recommend to anyone wanting a base to sleep whilst staying in London.

The hotel is located just a couple of minutes walk from Gloucester Road tube station, making it very convenient for trains to and from Heathrow and the centre of the city. I have spent a whole week here during a business trip. Already when arriving, the service was slightly chaotic, but after some time the lady behind the counter found my booking and could check me in. My room was on the very top floor - which is inconvenient given that the upper end of the lift is one floor below. As generic for London, the corridors are very narrow, especially with a heavy suitcase. The room was *TINY*, I mean, *REALLY* tiny. It was already quite a challenge to place my suitcas... Read more

Was very keen for two nights stay here for a break away from work. I had booked theatre tickets and decided to stay here as they advertise 24 hour room service - which includes hot meals etc. It also states this in the pamphlet in the hotel room. When I arrived home from the theatre at 10:30, I was told it is only snacks and cold drinks. The man at the reception didn't really seem to care about the predicament I'd been placed in. We booked two beds received one. This was a major inconvenience for us but was dismissed. The room was very small. The air made a constant whining sound while on. The elevator did not go all the way to the top floor. The front staff treated us as if we were a bother rather than a patron.
