We grew skeptical when we pulled up and there was scaffolding indicating major construction was in progress. When checking in, the front desk was an absolute mess. There was dirt on the floor, random piles of paper which was our first clue not to expect much. We were given room keys, which were not the normal electronic hotel key, but a typical key for a house that we had to turn in every time we left the hotel. We were given no help with bags as we climbed stairs as there were no elevators... Read more

I just needed a night in Guildford and wanted a place with a gym, I didn't read the reviews before going, wish I had. The place seemed half way through some major revamp, and it seriously needs it. The car park is unlit and hard to find reception. When I was met it wasn't the warmest of greetings, I not racist, prejudice but please have some one on reception who can speak English, I was handed a key then didn't have a clue where to go to the room, the reception area seemed to be the main hotel ... Comments in previous reviews regarding a lack of lighting outside and the place being rundown. My husband booked an evening at the pool and dinner. The changing rooms were not what I would have expected. Men and women have to share lockers & there is no separate area to do make up or hair. Jacuzzi water wasn't clean. My husband was told one price on the phone and then they tried to charge us another, the length of the pool was also in contention, 2 different lengths on the website & the owner t... Read more

We only stayed 2 nights but was not happy with having to pay in advance! Our room was really nice. It was beautyful country side and lovely views when its all done I am sure it will be amazing. Due to the history as well of the building I do hope they keep it going.

Well, its obviously an ongoing rebuild / upgrade / restoration which, in places is a horrid mess, my wife informs me, the swimming pool and spa is near finished, the gym, seen through the "spa reception" where you are presently sent to book in, which, basically is a very scruffy area, the room.........well, it was warm........there was thick black mould around the bath, bedding was clean, bed comfortable, carpets tired, electrics need upgrading, light very poor in the bathroom and neither use no... Spent last weekend at this hotel for a Conference. I have never seen so many people book into and out of a Hotel within hours after shocking treatment. The owner should not be in the hospitality trade! Rude and abusive! No other words to describe her. Fluctuating prices for absolutely everything. Had to pay up front for everything. Clearly disliked children in her hotel and constantly treated families badly. Leaking taps, no taps, wires hanging out, leaking rooms, mold, building material in roo... Read more

Booked last minute, working in the area. Turned up, thought my sat nav had sent me wrong! Pitch black, no lighting and tons of scaffolding. Once I realised I was actually at the right hotel I decided to cancel. After waiting around at a make shift reception/store room a scruffy bloke turned up about 15 minutes later, I tried to cancel, he said he can't do that and to call booking.com I did, booking.com called the hotel and they also told them they can't cancel the booking!! The hotel have also... Read more

Firstly I have to say this is my first ever tripadvisor post, mainly due to the fact that I have worked in many fine hotels and restaurants and find that an un-moderated forum such as this isn't a great thing, HOWEVER I couldn't stay silent on this occasion and hope that this will deter people from ever frequenting this establishment. Dis-organised, rude, chaotic, bizarre, dilapidated, filthy and overpriced are some of the tame words I would use to describe the owners and hotel. Mrs Nahid [..... Read more

Booked with others for a conference, I booked a downstairs room as I found out the were no lifts, we arrived in the dark but fortunately I had received an email , and read it to say refurb, under way and to access via spa entrance. It was very dark when we arrived , not lit very well, but found entrance. Things started to get a little strange as I had booked a table ,whilst acknowledging their reminder email , for 8.30 ..to eat. We were asked to pay in full on arival, then told our room was ... The staff were really helpful and kind coping in a dreadful mix of builders and refurbishment, a manager/owner who interrupted our conference shouting Turn off the Lights with two of her staff doing just that! No explanation given! Such lack of courtesy. Our bedroom was dated and the en suite bathroom was in poor condition. The curtains were too short! The pool was good. Location stunning. Sad really. So much potential and the prices were unreasonably high.
