When we first pulled up into the drive way of the hotel we were greeted by scaffolding and a few vans with the word "Asbestos" on.....this instantly made me feel a bit on edge, my boyfriend had booked the hotel back in early April but we had no email/call about building works.....and the Price hadn't been lowered to compensate for the fact we were rudely woken at 8am on a SUNDAY! We were attending a friends wedding at a near by golf course, prior to us arriving, the groom had asked if our room ... Read more

Major renovation works taking place. Frankly hotel should not be open to public. Outside like a building site. Inside our room was having windows replaced and work not finished. Windowsill loose. bathroom light over mirror did not work. Toilet now secured to floor so it moved when in use! Service not very friendly, no mention of major works when you booked. Breakfast very bad. Nowhere to sit as they had relocated to a room I assume is not usually used for food. Had to sit at a side servi... Read more

Welcome to this production with Navid starring as Sybil - barking orders at her staff and threatening to sack them when she thinks she is out of earshot of guests. Andrew as the long suffering Basil and Jason as Manuel who does everything, he pops up first at reception then to clean your room and then at breakfast serving. The management are downright rude and unhelpful and the reception is full of guests complaining, crying and wanting their money back. They are careful to take your money up fr... Read more

Work being done so looks disappointing on arrival, but warm welcome at make shift reception area. Would like to return when renovations are complete. Room on top floor, although clean needs some TLC which I understand is the next stage of decoration to be done. Breakfast very good and plentiful even though in a make shift dining room, tables laid ready.

Although when I pulled up it did look like some sort of bomb had gone off I was pleasantly surprised. I checked in at the make shift reception in the spa area and the check in was quick efficient and the staff friendly. My room was large very clean with plenty of tea coffee and milk. The bathroom clean and tidy. Considering the amount of work going on I never heard a thing and had a great nights sleep. The only little down side is the bar/restaurant area is set out a bit like a cafe with only 2 ... Read more

The website looked SO good but it's amazing what you can do with clever photography. Whilst a refurbishment is taking place, so ultimately it MIGHT look like the photos, it was all very tired, shabby and run down, The on going work meant we were staying in the middle of a building site. There was no mention of the work when I rang to book. The barman/waiter on Saturday May 29th was lovely, chatty and friendly and the food in the evening good. The service provided by him is the reason I've not r... Read more

This hotel was booked through a booking agent via the internet. When booking there was no mention that the hotel was under refurbishment. We had booked a double room to include breakfast for our anniversary. What a total disappointment this hotel was! The first room we were offered was a family room with a double and a single bed in in it. There was no mattress protector on the bed, the room was full of scuff marks, and the bathroom was nothing short of disgusting, mould everywhere. We were ... Read more

Long night driving pulled into this hotel, not usually do impulse stops but needs must. I've read reviews this morning and to an extent the room prices reflect accommodation. I'm in support of the new owners who have only been there 6 months, they have taken on a huge project in restoring this old building to its former glory, with a lot of money being spent (see photos) on the restoration. I'm not one for photos but found it necessary on this occasion, you need to look at the grand vision o... Read more

To be fair, we were warned that the hotel was in the process of being refurbished. It wasn't the poor condition of the property that was so disturbing. The manager / owner may or may not be a good business man. He, unfortunately is most certainly not the personality to be the 'front' person with the guests. He has a most unfortunate manner that leaves his guests cold and feeling most unwelcome. There is a host of unprofessional incidents during our short over night stay. I do not wish to mak... We found this comfortable, the pool and spa are good and the staff kind enough to make us a late bite on our return from a 40th birthday in Guildford. Great walks near by and Olympic cycle routes from 2012 to. The gym is well equipped.

Originally only booked for one night but then ended up having to book for two nights. Turned up to find out that half hotel was under going refurbishment. I don't have a problem with that yet to be told before we arrived some way would of been nice as it wasn't a good first impression pulling up to see half the hotel not open. Checked in via spa entrance and went round into room. I'm not stupid enough to think that every room will look like the photos that are put up online but this room was jus... Read more

The hotel is in some turmoil at the moment undergoing a major refurbishment. At present rooms are very tired, with chipped baths and the most uncomfortable mattress I have ever slept on. On the plus side, very nice pool, good gym. Very helpful staff in bar and restaurant ( although again due to refurb this area lacks any atmosphere). But, at the end of the day, a nice clean room with a comfortable bed is essential and you can't get that here. Much better, and no more expensive, options are ava... Read more

I understand that the hotel is undergoing a refurbishment (and I was notified- but I did not know this when I booked). However I feel that the hotel should not be open or should not be charging the full rate to guests at the moment as it is in such a mess. When I arrived the first impression was awful. Basically a building site with little printed out notices advising to go to the 'spa' for the reception. 'Reception' is a fold out table with a laptop. Not at all professional. The person manning ... Stayed one night for a very reasonable amount. The hotel was a building site, the interior tired at best, the staff thoroughly pleasant and professional, the food perfectly agreeable. f I'd paid >£100 for a night I'd tear it to pieces. I paid £41, and for that it was totally inline with expectation

This is my second visit, I gave it another chance because of work in progress. The entrance work looks superb and if the rest of the hotel was brought up to this standard, great. However, it is still a mish mash, we had new windows put in with the "foam" edging showing, Jacuzzi bath looks ok till you see that the tiling around it was put in by a five year old. The owners need to spend a night in each room to make a list of missing items such as hooks and shelves in bathroom, plug sockets working... Read more

We booked this hotel for a business trip after checking the website as the hotel looked fantastic! As we turned into the driveway we were dismayed to see that the brilliantly white painted facade pictured on the website was in reality a grubby and stained beige that had seen better days. As we got nearer the hotel there was a huge pile of rubble and guys chucking further building rubble on to it. There were not wearing hard hats or high vis vests but it was apparent they were doing building wor... Read more

In all likelihood readers of this review will suspect hyperbole on my part. They will be wrong. It is hard to believe that it is legal in a first world country to offer for reward accommodation of such a poor standard. On arrival the receptionist requested payment in advance. I later understood why. When I asked whether there was a lift he told us that the room was but one flight up. In fact it was 2 1/2 up and 1/2 down. I have never seen a worse room. This is hotel in desperate need of the current renovation project. It is very tatty, the room was in a very poor state. The bed was exhausted and the mattress had collapsed and made you roll into the centre of it. The balcony had a bucket of cigarette ends waiting for us which was delightful. The balcony had a lot of missing tiles and was a trip hazard. This is quite a difficult review to write. The web site does say that the hotel is undergoing refurbishment. But there is refurbishment and there is refurbishment. On arrival reception was temporarily located at the rear of the hotel - so far so good - but what has refurbishment got to do with the porter being unable to find the room - I am assuming the room hadn't moved, though you would think it had after all the corridors and stairs we went up, down and around. This is a nice older style hotel , few miles from Guildford, but convenient for getting around Surrey and the south east area. To be fair the hotel is undergoing some significant upgrading and renovation. The problem for us was the lack of an elevator. Up and down to the second floor involved 44 stairs. The staff were helpful though in dealing with our luggage. Breakfast was a decent example of a full English breakfast. The room was pleasant and of a good size with pleasant country view. However... The most horrendous hotel I have ever stayed in, the rooms were dirty major cracks in the walls the decor in bedroom and restaurant was like a time warp to the 70's. Major renovation going on meant corridors were filthy and the bedroom shock with the large mechanical drills. All though staff tried to be help full most of them struggled with English and seemed very unsure of themselves and basic booking in procedures. The lady who owned/ran the hotel was extremely rude. Couldn't wait to leave!!!

The website does mention refurbishment although I do not think that describes exactly what is going on at the hotel. I'm with chrissieche on this one. I got room 24 too, in it as I write. I've kept my socks on in bed as I don't trust the carpet cleanliness. There is very little privacy with the ridiculous curtains providing large gaps for ground floor passers by to look in. Large gaps in plasterwork round new-ish windows. Why go to bother of new Windows if you don't finish the cosmetics inside? Strange. Someone has left me a used tissue under one of the twin beds (chrissieche; maybe yours?) The bathroom light... The mattress was old, poor quality with the springs prominent. The breakfast was overpriced, with rubber scrambled eggs. The room was dirty, poorly maintained (paint missing or peeling off the walls). The restaurant had a couple of large rolls of what looked like insulation or carpet stored along the side of the room. Really not worth the £119 per night, and that was before the £14 for breakfast!! If you're in the middle of a refurb, DON'T CHARGE FULL PRICE!!!

Stayed here on Saturday 23rd with group of people before my wedding. Hotel is very run down and in much need of money being chucked in to it.
