The general feel of the hotel is pleasant and homely. The staff are friendly. The breakfast provided has a great choice, and the restaurant is fantastic. The only problem is the rooms are pretty warm and there is no air-conditioning making it an uncomfortable nights sleep. In addition the windows are full size and for ground rooms you feel vulnerable leaving the window wide open. They did leave a fan in the room but unfortunately too noisy to sleep with on.

I confirm some of previous reviews. The room I got was incredibly small, really unacceptable providing the price and the fact that this is supposed to be a 4 star hotel. You could hardly move in it, similar story for the bathroom. Shelves installed above the toilet because there's no space anywhere else. No body lotion provided. On top of that rooms aren't well isolated so you someone leaving early morning can wake you up. To that we can add an average breakfast. One good point - the bar is ple... Read more

We booked a junior suite for a birthday treat and were disappointed that what was advertised was not in the room. The coffee machine was missing and when I asked they said it was broken. When I asked for a replacement I was told as we were only staying one night they could not do it. We also had to ask for hairdryer, milk and the bose sound system in our room did not work. The room had a view of the bins which at 1.30 am they empty all the bottles into waking me up. The doomer windows in the bed... Read more

First time at this property. Nice for a weekend get away, but not well suited for business travel. Access to front desk difficult up a flight of stairs. Room is furnished with nice bed and linens, but minimal work space and no comfortable seating. Saw no air conditioner, so could be a bit uncomfortable in the Summer. TV was frustrating with 300 channels on the guide, but only 12 or so actually available. Would recommend the property for a romantic weekend. Convenient to G-Live venue and Guil... Read more

The room I was given in this "boutique" hotel was clean, however I think the phenomenon of these boutique hotels means that you can be put in a tiny room, as long as there is some quirky wallpaper. The bathroom was tine with barely any room to turn round in. Having travelled all day I turned in at a reasonable time, however when the residents from upstairs returned in the late evening the squeaky floorboards meant that it was impossible to sleep and unfortunately they rose early therefore my ... Me and my girlfriend visited the restaurant in mandolay hotel few nights ago. The food was beautiful, atmosphere was great , but best of all was the service we got from one of your waitresses, who made our special night even more special. We had this brilliant Bulgarian server who spent so much time to explain and help us with most of the dishes as we both couldn't make a choice. She gave is such a great understanding about the fancy menu , recommended us dishes and even explained how some of t... Read more

I have stayed here before, but quite a while ago, so had forgotten why it wasn't in my list of preferred hotels, but within 5 minutes of arriving it all came flooding back I accept that parking is at a premium in Guildford, so had phoned ahead to pre-book a parking space at the hotel (and paid £10 for the privilege), but when I arrived and tried to get thru the barrier I was firmly told via the intercom with Reception that I couldn't have possibly pre-booked as I wasn't on her list. Our party of 6 visited The Mandolay for an afternoon tea.The staff were very pleasant and made us very welcome. The tea was extremely well presented, plentiful and delicious.Fantastic value for money, having been to several so called higher class establishments, this was just as good,in fact ,considering the price,it was better !!! A very nice treat.Highly recommended.

I imagine it wasn't dissimilar to the experiences of those during the blitz. I plunged into the basement and windowless room 47, directly below reception. Until the late hours, it sounded like the Nazi invasion of Europe had resumed, as the receptionist high heels pounded on the floor above whilst guests travelled up and down the adjacent staircase. There was a short reprieve until 6am when I was woken by yet more cluster bombs falling upon my ears. Despite this, I thought I'd stay put for... Read more

Very good location and nice price makes this hotel prior to stay in Guildford. That's 4star hotel is indeed 4 star: nice room, nice location, nice service, nice breakfast - but not more. You won't feel something special about any side of this hotel. Would recommend it for short stay. Be careful about weddings during weekends :) 4/5

Superb, efficient and friendly dealings with the reservations department who went above and beyond to accommodate my children and I. Rosa and Lavina were an absolute pleasure to liase with and when visiting Guildford in the future, I will have no hesitation in contacting the Mandolay again. Thank you.

We took our daughter here for afternoon tea, to celebrate her birthday. When I booked I requested vegetarian sandwiches for all of us, and soya milk for our daughter. No problem, and everything was served as requested. They offer a good choice of tea -bags, loose leaf, and infusions - and refills as required. When the sandwiches and cakes were brought to the table the waitress explained what everything was. Sandwiches slipped down a treat. We then started on the scones, one plain and one fruit a... Stayed here for 2 nights whilst attending the Goodwood FOS in 2016. Nice little place, rooms very small but great for the price. Definitely an easy choice if moving through but wouldn't want to stay for too long as everything is tiny!

I booked afternoon tea for a friend and I and despite turning up a bit early they seated us with no problem as the restaurant was fairly quiet at the time. We were provided with a pot of tea each from a selection which arrived very quickly and were refilled at no extra cost when we asked for a refresh. The food itself was lovely; my nut allergy was well catered for and the waitress serving us made sure each time she brought something over that I knew it was nut free. I forgot to tell them when ... The staff is not friendly at all. We got a last minute deal and the room we were given was in the basement with no window. The room itself is lovely and daily cleaned but there were loads of noises from the upper floor, day and night. The location is perfect anyway.

My staying at the Mandolay was quite random as I only needed a hotel near the office while working late. The room was around £60 for a single which was reasonable as the hotel itself looks classic and is placed nicely on the outskirts of the town centre near London Road station. My only negative is that the room was bit boxy but then again it was a single and for the money I didn't feel cramped.

Being a 'boutique' hotel I had high expectations, now maybe if you had the money for a suite things might be different but our classic room was in the basement so was very dark but also was very damp, you could smell the damp when you walked in and could feel it on the carpet and bed covers. Me and my husband are the type of people that would just rather put up with stuff then complain but as my husband was already suffering from a chesty cough we thought the damp might effect this. When we comp... Read more

Lovely hotel, few niggles though so I will start with them. Showing signs of wear and tear in the room we stayed in which was a junior suite. The wallpaper was ripped next to the bedside lamp, TV stand was dusty and the carpet didn't feel very nice under barefoot. The room we stayed in (84) was in the eaves of the building so it was unbearably warm!! The fan unit didn't really do anything as it is located behind the TV on the wall at the other end of the bedroom, no where near the bed. Trying to... Read more

Double room could just about fit the bed in it! No room to swing a cat! No air con and the small desk fan supplied just circulated the warm air! Not worth the money at all!! The staff are very rude, inconsiderate! I would never stay here and I would never recommend it.

This is a well located hotel. Room spotlessly clean. I had a room overlooking the garden at the back of hotel. No traffic noise. There is some room noise from neighbouring guests. Wifi connection great. One noticeable difference from last visit - the staff at breakfast were a major improvement- attentive but not overpowering. They were restocking & constantly clearing/cleaning tables - much better than last visit. I can't wait to stay again. Thanks

I stayed here whilst working in Guildford for a couple of days. On arrival I found that all the hotel car parks were full but was advised that I could park in the G Live car park which is in the road opposite the hotel. If you park in here after 6 pm on a Saturday night it costs a pound to park until 11 am on Sunday morning, although it is not possible to see the car park from the hotel you can see the theatre complex that it serves. The hotel is also close to quite a selection of eateries. I ch... Read more

A very pretty hotel in the heart of Guildford, I was there for business so was approaching the stay with an expectation which glady was proved wrong. The parking could be an issue but I paid the extra to utilise the limited parking to the rear of the hotel. The reception staff (does that sound rude, I certainly do not mean it to be so) were lovely, engaging and helpful - got my key to the room - clean, stylish and very comfortable, no complaints at all. The restaurant food was amazing - I had ... Read more

Room was tiny, and hot and £120. No air con meant it was uncomfortable to sleep. Parking was chargeable, which is ridiculous. Reception took payment, but never asked how the stay was, or a 'thank you for staying with us'. Location was good for town, but will go back to the premier inn, in the future.

Lovely stay at the mandolay, only gripe would be car parking, no such thing there's about 15 spaces or pay £10, £10 MUST BE PREBOOKED can't just arrive. Spent a lovely afternoon in the bar, great service, room was large and beds comfortable. friendly staff, breakfast was average, nothing fantastic.

Absolutely lovely stay. The room was set in a separate part of the hotel and was lovely. Immaculately clean - a credit to the housekeeping team. Friendly helpful reception staff. 2 minutes walk from the town. We managed to park outside but I can see it is a bit hit and miss but there is a car park opposite so no big deal. The hotel also make you aware of this prior to booking so as I said no big deal. We would recommend this hotel to anybody
