My wife and I booked one night here as a stopover. The hotel is split between an old building that was formally part of the old hospital complex with a newer accommodation annex attached. We we greeted by an enthusiastic and friendly member of staff at reception who quickly completed the check-in process. Our room was an executive room on the first floor. It was a good size with super king bed. We had a small technical issue with one of the lights in the room that was quickly sorted out by the s... Read more

Great stay start to finish! The entire staff was friendly, accommodating. Surrounding grounds are beautiful. Nearby restaurants and playground w/in 1 mile walking distance. Food in the hotel restaurant was delicious. We enjoyed 2 dinners and both experiences were great! Tried the prawns in coconut sauce, pan seared chicken and pan seared sea bass. Kids enjoyed the cheese pizza and fish n chips. Only comment for improvement - our room was too warm. We were on top floor, windows fully exposed... Read more

Not at all what I expected, but in a good way, hotel of the bar and restaurant really nice, the main building for the rooms out of context with the area it amazes me how they got planning permission for it. However big good rooms, staff really good and overall brilliant and I would stay here again. To be really critical, I thought the menu was limited, in the end I ordered rump steak £17.95!! Which came nicely presented with six cherry tomatoes on it and bits of flake of something else as soo... Read more

We booked at The Dumfries Holiday Inn as half way point for leisure trip to Fort William and we under estimated the value of our stopover. The room was excellent and both Dinner and breakfast were to the highest standard the Holiday Inn aspires too We enjoyed our stay that much we returned 4 da... Read more

We stayed here on a romantic break deal, which we considered to be great value. We had an executive room strawberries and chocolate plus a bottle of prosecco In our room. A 3 course dinner and another bottle of wine with our meal, then full buffet breakfast in the morning all for £121 per night. The hotel and room were a good standard, the only let down was there was a little confusion at our meal, having to explain that we were on a deal so had nothing to pay. Spent our last night in scotland here,it is located in the grounds of the university and is beautiful parkland,We found the staff very friendly and courteous, the food in the restaurant was very good and the service great, the breakfast is self service/buffet style and was piping hot, plenty of car park spaces,if you do not know Dumfries just follow the signs to the Hospital and the hotel is a few hundred yards past on left.

We had an overnight stay in Dumfries, and were looking for something close to the centre, but a bit more modern than the hotels around the station. The holiday inn is set on the Creighton campus, which hosts the university and hospital, and it utilises the old buildings well, but with a modern interior. The room itself was basic, (mostly) clean and well laid out. We did find the remote missing for the TV, and an old pair of socks in one of the cupboard. We reported them to reception on the wa... This ordinary holiday Inn is in the stunning grounds of the former Crichton hospital and the restaurant and bar are in part of the original buildings. So what would have been an otherwise mundane business trip was a much better experience. Staff very attentive and friendly. Dinner reasonable but only one small fillet of seabass which was a bit stingy. Breakfast very busy with long wait for buffet to be refilled but again the lovely staff were super. This hotel is in a superb location with beautifully maintained gardens nearby for a relaxing stroll. We were allocated room 2 which was perfect for us and our little dog "Kitty" The room was a good size with a good outlook and was very clean. We enjoyed the food in the restaurant in fantastic surroundings with friendly and helpful staff. This is certainly worth a visit and we would recommend to anyone

Warm welcome at reception and a smooth check in. We booked two rooms and chose the dinner and breakfast package at £120.00 per room. We arrived late, but my husband and I chose to wander around the grounds of the hotel, it's situated on the grounds of a university. Once a former asylum. There's a map to follow and very pleasant views, as well as points of interest along the way. We left our two boys aged 21 ad 17 to get ready and collected them before heading to the hotel restaurant. Maybe ... Read more

Booked a three day break for our wedding anniversary at The Holiday Inn Dumfries. We have been before when it was the Aston hotel and not much has changed, the reception has moved making more room in the bar lounge and restaurant which we found was a good move. Very comfortable bed and spacious room. It is a bit of a way from the town centre but I knew this already and was perfect for us to use as a base. The buffet breakfast on the Sunday morning was lacking in quantity and not kept filled up despite only being 10 o'clock and still an hour to go. Tables were not cleared up either. Don't think they had enough staff on to cope with a large number of guests. This, however, was not the case on the Monday morning. Generally found the staff friendly and hel... Read more

Stayed 2 nights for wedding. Lovely room (slightly let down by carpet stain under window and loose (left) arm on upright chair. Brilliant bed and powerful, very hot shower. Needed air-con on all night as room quite warm (left window closed to prevent unwanted insects gaining access). What a fantastic hotel. From arrival to departure the staff couldn't have done more. Sarah at breakfast was just so happy it made my day start happy and with a smile. A great relaxing view in the morning at breakfast of the church and it is just over the road. The room was so clean and I couldn't fault anything. What a beautiful place and a morning stroll in the grounds was something not to miss. Well done hotel. I will be back.

This was the third time we have stayed here. Can't fault the hotel for comfort. The standard of cleanliness was also good. Breakfast would benefit from extending the range of foods in the continental selection. The hotel was very busy and service at breakfast could have been better, we had to go in search of a staff member to ask for tea and had to ask twice for our cooked food order. Other than that a great stay. If ever in Dumfries again for a wedding would certainly consider staying here.

I have stayed in very many Holiday Inns, mainly in the States and rarely in the UK. (Sorry Sturgeon, in Scotland!) As a Gold Elite member we were upgraded to an Executive Double, very nice. Except for the fact that most IGH employees don't appear to have experience of hotel stays. I always avoid rooms that are close to the lift/stair well as there is usually a lot of activity around that area, especially late at night.
