Quirky building, 8 bedrooms (I think) with a bar downstairs. Staff were wonderful but the rooms were shabby and in dire need of a makeover. We had rooms 1 & 5. Room 5 had no hairdryer, no Lightbulb in the sidelight, no working light in the bathroom. I couldn't get the TV to work. Room 1 was marginally better in that it did have a mirror and hairdryer and was less noisy. I had an early interview at the Infirmary so the location was perfect and rooms we very clean. However if you want a touch of c... Read more

One night stay in Glasgow, hotel opposite the Glasgow Cathedral. There is a small car park too which is a bonus. Staff couldn't have been friendlier, location good for town centre, ok there are a few stairs to climb to the rooms...but heck it's an old building! Room was basic but fine for a nights stay, there was live music in the bar when we arrived and the guy playing guitar, singing then the piano. Really good. Breakfast in the morning was good plenty of options to pick from. Would defini... Read more

Our two twin rooms were shabby and depressing with paintwork coming off the bedside tables. The sash window in one of the rooms wouldn't close. The whole ambience was 'grim'. To reach our rooms we went up three flights of spiral stairs, two of which are concreted. We decided to check out immediately and explained our views to the manager. He said that I was the first person to have made these comments about the website being 'misleading'. My payment had already been taken and he offered me ... Read more

the website shows you pictures of 2 rooms which look really nice, they don't show the other rooms because they badly need updating, plain, tired, do not represent the website or the price compared to other hotels, also the view was not of the necropolis or the cathedral as advertised but of the roof of the building (turret room).... however, they were clean (except from the velux window which was really dirty on the outside)and all the staff were very helpful, the food was ok and the bar was a n... Adjacent to Glasgow Cathedral and The Necropolis. This place should be busy every day. Our food was simple but really tasty and cooked well. No Brake Brothers' specials, just proper home made fare. Inexpensive too. Definitely worth a visit. In a great location and amongst beautiful buildings with intriguing, chilling histories.

After a most interesting tour of the nearby Necropolis, we stopped in for a late lunch. The bar area is warm, welcoming and comfortable and the service was friendly. Drinks were served very quickly. The menu had a few veggie options - I had the chilli burger. Jalapeños were promised but there did not appear to be any with my burger. It was tasty nonetheless and the chips were light and non greasy. There was a teaspoonful of coleslaw which seemed a bit mean and perhaps a little salad would have ... Read more

Visited pub killing time before nipping round the corner (well not quite round the corner) to the Tennents Brewery. A nice pub in a characterful building with an atached hotel apparently. Good service, nice atmosphere and eveidently as much used by locals as visitors to the nearby Cathedral, Oldest House, St Mungos etc.

This hotel is quite characterful, but rather shabby. The towels and bedlinen were spotless, which is great, but the bathroom was really run-down and quite grubby. Staff were pleasant, with the general management style a little quaint. The location is good - opposite the Necropolis and near the Cathedral, with the walk into the city centre taking you past some interesting buildings

Very old building next to the Cathedral. No elevator so had to go up 3 sets of spiral stairs to get to room, which was modest but adequate. Parking available meant a parking meter across the street that required feeding periodically throughout the day. Staff at the hotel bar/restaurant were kind enough to feed the meter when we were out sight-seeing. On a positive note, the staff in the ground floor bar/restaurant were very helpful and the food was very good. They did seem to be understaffe... Read more

Popped into the hotel for a quick drink and had a welcoming reception. The bar staff were friendly and the bar area was love and clean. We noted that the food looked lovely. Soup and a sandwich for £5.
