I was entertaining in Newcastle so stayed in the Marriott as a rewards member. I think the hotel needs updating and the staff need to be trained to be more attentive to customers, not one of the better Marriott's I have stayed at

Booked Exec room with bed settee - huge room, well equipped. Staff were wonderful, kind & friendly. Hotel looks new on outside but rooms seem curiously "old fashioned" - very 80's decor.. Lovely pool & fitness centre. Good food. Short walk from metro centre Malls. Perfect!

Situated on the opposite side of the Tyne to Newcastle therefore much more reasonable than the hotels in the city centre. Nice sized rooms, stafff very helpful. Breakfast buffet very good. Great place to base yourselves if wanting to go into the city, Metro centre is a stones throw away and there is a shuttle bus from there that runs straight to the centre of Newcastle.

The Gateshead Marriott is a little outside Newcastle city centre, so don't stay here if you want to be in the heart of things. But, it's right next to the Metro Centre, so if you like shopping, then you are in for a treat! The Metro Centre has a train station with a direct link to Newcastle main station, which makes access very easy. The hotel is everything you would expect from a Marriott - clean, functional, efficient, well-appointed, and comfortable. Staff were lovely - helpful and friendly... Read more

We had decided to stay over for the few days in the Marriott Hotel that is closest too the shopping mall. It is a modern hotel with a glass facade is 0.7 miles from the Metrocentre train station. Nice modern hotel. Just off the A1. Staff polite and helpful but you'd expect that really. A few minutes walk from the Metrocentre if you want to go shopping or eat somewhere other than the hotel. In the Metrocentre you can also get a train into Newcastle so simple if you don't want to drive or pay £15 for a cab. I didn't eat or use the other facilities there so I cannot really comment on those.

Perfect base if you plan to do some shopping at the Metrocentre, it is walking distance from the entrance. It's a nice enough hotel, very pleasant staff. Unfortunately I was unwell during my visit so was unable to have dinner here or try out the facilities (my main reason for booking here) but breakfast was good, great selection and good service.

My fiancé booked this hotel as a surprise for my birthday in September last year and he couldn't have picked a better one! We arrived after 3pm so check in wasn't an issue. There was plenty of parking available too which also helped (and it was free). Our room was huge, especially as there was only the 2 of us. The bed was massive, but so, so comfy! The bathroom was also huge, with the option of a bath or shower - which was great! The hotel is right across the road from the Metrocentre meanin... Read more

We chose this hotel as a convenient base for attending the Test Match at Chester-le-Street and visiting the general area. The hotel is a typical Marriott, everything is spotlessly clean and works but what set this hotel apart was the staff. Every single member of staff we encountered was friendly, cheerful and efficient. It's not often you come across so many who genuinely seemed to enjoy their work.

My husband and I often stop here as the location is central to what we need. It's close to the metro centre and a short journey into Newcastle. The rooms are always clean and spacious the beds are comfortable and staff are always friendly. We ate in the on site restaurant for both dinner and breakfast and the food and the service was exceptional.

Location is in a maze of access roads between the Metro Centre and a large retail park. Signposting is poor. There are brown tourist signs directing you off the A1, but they disappear at crucial, anonymous junctions. We spent upwards of 5 minutes in sight of the hotel and within about 400 metres of it as the crow flies but unable to find a way to it through the labyrinth that is the Metro Centre and retail park road system. However, once you're there things look up. There is adequate, free parki... Read more

Can't praise this hotel enough, This is the 3rd time we have returned and this was the best experience ever. The rooms are spotlessly clean and we were made to feel so special as it was my husbands 50th birthday. Complementary desert plate and wine with happy 50th birthday wrote in chocolate on plate. Breakfast is amazing and the waiting staff were lovely. Food was plentiful and cooked to perfection. Definitely go there.

We would have tried the pool, which l... Read more

My daughter and I stayed for one night, in a deluxe room with two double beds (handy as she is eight months pregnant!). I had emailed to ask for an upgrade if possible, as this was our last mother/daughter trip before her daughter arrived, but I received a rather curt response from Marriott telling me as we'd booked through a third party they didn't have our booking (3days from our stay). Not impressed. The hotel is clean but a tad outdated. Our windowsill was cracked and paint was chipping off... Read more

I've just returned from a 3 day stay here which was so lovely. I arrived to plenty of parking and as soon as I got in I was offered help with my bags, the friendly desk staff booked me in quickly. I initially couldn't get in my room as he card wouldn't work but rang them as someone was up with a new one in seconds. The room was huuuuge with a good sized bathroom. It all looked very clean apart from the glass on the units had a gap under them so when the sun shone in it on first glance appeared... Read more

Reserved via Marriott and had previous experience at this hotel. Check in was efficient. Bar service was prompt and friendly. Room was clean and sufficiently equipped. Bed comfort was to my taste. Had to leave early so did not try breakfast. Overall I would stay there again and was reasonable value.

Decided to drive from Glasgow to Durham one weekend, and then spend the night before visiting the Gateshead metro the next day. This marriott seemed to fit the bill. We arrived mid afternoon and had a drink outside, but that was cut short because of the foul language being used by a group of wedding guests who had stepped outside for a cigarette. This hotel seems to be a major venue for weddings, when I arrived back at the hotel after dinner the hotel was full of wedding guests, at various... Read more

The last time we stayed here was as a young couple (sans children) but it was good to be back. After a long day shopping it was a lovely hotel to stay over in. The staff were very friendly and the service was fantastic. It's clean, modern and the rooms were very comfortable. What more can you want! We didn't stay for dinner, but the breakfasts were really nice. Again, the staff were fantastic without exception. It won't be 20 years before we're back again!

The staff couldn't be more helpful and friendly, and were very accommodating of our 18 month old daughter who was clearly excited about her first hotel stay and enjoyed running around the lobby and using the lift! The restaurant/bar are fab, lovely breakfast and evening meals. The rooms are huge and have everything you could need to feel at home. Couple of minutes walk to the metro centre so handy f... I used to stay in this Hotel regularly when I worked in Newcastle and have always found it to be welcoming with high standards. My wife and I now visit every October for a long weekend break/xmas shopping as the Metro Centre is a short walk from the Hotel. Once again, everything about this Hotel is first class. The hotel, rooms, staff, bar and dining area, and service cannot be faulted. We would both highly recommend this Hotel.

Stayed here for 2 nights in Sept 2016. The room we had was a twin room with a sofa and coffee table. It was spacious and comfortable. We didn't use or see any of the facilities in the hotel as we came to send off our son to Newcastle Uni. All we wanted were comfy beds to sleep off our aching legs which the hotel provided. We have been to many Marriott hotels in Asia so this hotel was quite average. Nevertheless, it was well priced and provided what we wanted.

Stayed room only. Hotel was let down because of wedding guests taking over entire hotel. If you stay while there is no wedding or other busy functions on sure it would be excellent unfortunately we weren't. Staff were excellent however and were apologetic due to the bad behaviour of the guests and we were offered another stay which we will use when it's quieter.

Stayed for two night and the beds are very hard and uncomfortable, pillows are terrible and I had a room that had a divider door between the room next door they use when families stay over. The guest in the next room had his TV volume up very high and was talking loudly on the phone from very early in the morning.

Went for a 'relaxing' spa day a couple of days before we got married and it was not relaxing in the slightest. Baby classes all morning screaming kids for hours. And we have a child and don't dislike kids at all but we don't go to a spa to listen to screaming babies and a very annoying loud teacher. The massage was lovely and the girls were lovely. And the food was nice. Wouldn't recommend or go again. Sorry.

Over the past couple of visits we have noted some cutbacks that actually are shameful for an hotel of this standing. Pillows reduced 6 to 4. Biscuits to 1 pack per room/night. Breakfast quality; cooked breakfast is using cheaper meats. Bread is thin not toasting, Jams and preserves are in cheap sachets and are a runny mess. Sadly, we are becoming disillusioned especially as the price per... Read more
