Had 2 nights. Ate at the restaurant which was your traditional Witherspoon fayre and they did try to charge me for someone else's meal as well as our own the 2nd night! Had to scrutinize the total bill on cheque out. Room was poor, confetti behind and under radiator, told staff day of arrival, was still there when they "cleaned". The bathroom speaks for itself. Wouldn't stay again. Over priced in every sense of the word and very pretentious.

We stayed at the George for 3 days in May. The village is lovely and the pub very well designed with a fantastic Menu. I can't shout loud enough pay a few pounds more and stay in the castle suite it's fantastic. All the staff were very friendly . The breakfast room is very well laid out and the walled garden very pretty . The only down side is the pub went very quiet very early after people had finished eating. Some nights we were on our own at around 9.30 but a great base for a fantastic break.

Food here is generally good. On a recent visit, there was a different feel to the pub. I fully believe that change/review of layout and menu's should happen regularly, but they have to be for the better. The menu has a more casual feel to it i.e. errs on the side of pizza/burger/pannini and their standard meals are less prominent. There is less casual seating in the bar which relegates the locals to other parts of the pub which changes the nice atmosphere. There is a ghastly picture on the... Read more

We went to Nunney to visit the castle and happened to arrive just before lunch... We were having a wonder around and saw this place which had a menu outside and thought we would try it. When we walked in, we were blown away by how lovely it was. It looked all brand new, the decor is modern but traditional, the garden is stunning and you can sit out there too. The food was very nice. We had a 2 year old with us and high chair was no problem and he ate a kids meal (not all of it, so they gave us ... Read more

I was one of a party of 8 who had cycled here from Bath. Arriving around 3.30 slightly aching and wet I was looking forward to a nice hot bath - but no hot water! I reported this to reception who blamed that morning's departures all having baths/showers before they left! Despite an assurance that the system would now be boosted I could not get a sufficient hot supply at any time that night. Decor wise the bedroom was nice and roomy with some period features. The public areas have been quite nice... Read more

I visited here with my husband on a Saturday evening, it was very busy, glad that we booked. The barman was very friendly, we decided to have our drinks outside of the front of the pub overlooking the castle. He came across to tell us when our table was ready and showed us in. Both meals were lovely and were enjoyed by us. We will be returning.

I would have rated this excellent if it wasnt for the tiny room we had (room 12) if you do not mind a very small room, small bed and a bathroom that is seperate and across the hallway with other bedrooms around then this is your room! I personally for £85 did not see the value. I did ask for an upgrade but they were fully booked which is understandable. The location of the hotel is superb, we went for a walk on arrival and stumbled across a derilict castle, really would recommend for the locat... Read more

We stayed in the castle suite, which was very reasonably priced for a lovely room. The four poster was very comfortable and the room clean and tidy. The bathroom was a tired, although the age of the building doesn't lend itself to extensive plumbing upgrades! The food was delicious with the steak and stilton pie the best I've had in a long time. Portions were more than generous, the price reasonable and the service attentive. I'd definitely recommend booking as it was very busy. All in all a lov... Read more

A quite like this pub/restaurant. Atmospheric, but not surprising since it is a 17th century coaching inn. Food was good, but not exceptional. Not sure it quite gets to "very good", but it's better than average and the value for money (in terms of at least the Sunday roast) warrants its award elevation. Parking is a bit of a problem. And then there's Nunney Castle to behold across the stream... a bit of history and beautiful on a sunny day.

great service, great food and plenty of it lol , we would recommend this place very highly , we had a shared platter to start with, only needed a side salad and it could have been a main meal, and we had the home made steak and chorizo pie, gawjus, and thrice cooked chips and veg, lovely

We went for Sunday Lunch on Fathers Day, the restaurant was busy but very well organised and calm. The service was excellent, warm, friendly staff who were attentive. Despite the exterierior of the inn looking traditional the interior was very modern and well laid out. The Roast Beef lunch was absolutely gorgeous, all fresh produce and plentiful. I was very impressed with the size and quality of the children's chicken goujon meal, again all fresh and home made. My friend said her Roast Chicken m... Read more

What a great hotel - from the beginning - upon arrival the male staff member offered to carry our luggage to our room. The room was lovely, very clean and nicely decorated. Very homely and the bed was comfortable. We had a cracking first night's dinner - I can honestly say the meals during our three night stay were some of the best I've had in any restaurant or pub. Top quality food products and fantastically cooked and presented. The breakfasts were also amazing and there was a great choice cat... Read more

Needed to find somewhere to stay for one night and found this on the internet. It certainly lived up to expectations. The village is beautiful with a picturesque castle. The accommodation was comfortable and cosy, food was excellent and all the staff were friendly and helpful. Made us want to stay longer.

Service was slow, ordered a 'sharer' it came with 5 pieces of bread should have been even number for a sharer, the floor was very uneven and there were parts of it that were only slightly higher that the rest kept stubbing toes! food was really good alot of flavour and decent size portions. Drinks were reasonably priced food was a bit pricey but only come on an occasion so money wasn't really an issue. Ordered steak and wasn't given a steak knife without asking for it. We were on holiday in the area and went the restaurant at the George to celebrate a birthday. The menu was diverse, something for all the generations and the food was delicious - beware the full portion of ribs, it's huge but so very good. Service was very good too, efficient and friendly.

Visiting Frome for the weekend....A lovely hotel/pub situated in the beautiful quiet village of Nunney, 10 minutes drive from the centre of Frome town. The accommodation was spacious, clean and quiet and the customer service excellent. The two rooms we were staying in were allocated for dogs to stay but you would never have known that other dogs had been there. The food was excellent, we had evening meal and an included breakfast both were very good and Sunday roast apparently is excellent but... Read more

I've got to give the George at Nunney a big shout out for their hospitality today The decor is wonderful, and the staff seem very approachable and friendly. I will be back soon!! It is also a great stop for people visiting the village itself, a nice backdrop is the castle, and there are some nice walks around the village too!!

We stayed here in May and thoroughly enjoyed the visit. Room had some slight noise until late approx 12 pm, from outside drinkers/smokers in the beer garden, and there must have been a store room adjoining us as staff banged the door or shelving early in the morning approx 6 am from memory. Breakfast was very good, except no hollandaise sauce so no eggs Benedict! Evening meal had a few mishaps but once realised was quickly corrected, and overall food very good. We would stay again. Hadn't been to the George for a few years but took the opportunity to have a family dinner whilst back from the Middle East. I understand that the pub had fairly recently changed hands from the previous guy who totally transformed the place, I was pleased to see that standards have been retained. Good variety of beers and the food was good with large portions. Service was also quick and courteous.

Stayed here for 2 nights whilst on a trip to visit Longleat and Bath and I was very happy with my choice of hotel. The room was nice and clean with fresh, nice big fluffy towels daily. The breakfast was very nice and the lady serving breakfast was very friendly and helpful. We had a meal in the restaurant on the Saturday night, both me and my partner enjoyed our main course but the desserts were the best, definitely worth a visit to the restaurant if you are in the area. I stayed with two grandchildren aged 4 and 13 so a family room in a hotel would not have been suitable. The cottage attached to the hotel was excellent. Spotlessly clean and had everything you would need including washing machine, fridge even a barbecue. My wife and I didn't get on with the memory foam mattress on the bed in the master bedroom, but that may just be us, the kids loved the bunk beds in their room which were plenty big enough for a teenager. The village is lovely and the castle... Read more

Stayed at The George's cottage with our five year old and our nine month old. The cottage was nice - clean and tidy and very comfortable beds. There's no bath but the shower is powerful and lots of hot water. The sofa bed in the front room wasn't too comfy for sitting on but overall this was a lovely little place to stay with fast broadband and a smart tv as well as everything you could need in the kitchen, including washing up liquid and fresh milk. We had a lovely evening meal at the pub and b... Read more

My partner and I stayed for 2 nights whilst visiting longleat and stonehenge. We really liked the pub overall, the staff were very friendly, approachable and helpful. We had a slight issue with our room which was dealt with really well by management. We ate breakfast and dinner here on both the days we stayed and apart from the scrambled eggs at breakfast the food was delicious. We stayed for my partners Birthday after travelling around Somerset with our Cocker spaniel Henry. Thankfully only booked in here for one night because the first room we were offered would have meant the dog climbing 3 staircases before getting outside(even though we had stated online we were bringing a dog).Eventually we were given a ground floor room which was ok but a little dated. We asked for an ironing board & was asked for it back in 15 minutes! We reserved a table in the restaurant which... Read more

My partner and I stayed here for one night, we were attending a wedding in a nearby village, I called the hotel a week before to request an early check in, this was sorted straight away. On arrival the staff were very welcoming and polite, I asked if they could sort out a taxi to take us to the wedding venue, this was done with no hesitation, we had arrived slightly early so decided to have a spot of lunch, this was of a very high quality. We visited for lunch and sat in the lovely rear garden, also places to sit out the front over the road by the river. The tables are well spaced apart with umrbellas to shade you. Our meals were nice, caesar salad was nice, tuna salad ok, green beans were under cooked and very crunchy and tuna was cooked through too much, much better when slightly raw in the middle, maybe the waitress should of asked how it was to be cooked. My husband took me here for two nights as part of an anniversary surprise and what a good choice he made. The hotel is lovely with fabulous food but the best attribute of this hotel that I should mention is the staff; at all times they were helpful, friendly and kind especially Josh who excelled as a host. We shall certainly be back and will be highly recommending it to everyone! Thank you 'The George' you helped make my anniversary special.

Due to a typical chain pub menu we opted for two of the specials. The food was good but the lack lustre service, sticky tables, sticky menus, dirty carpets, stained walls and abundance of flies clearly spoilt the meal. We left after the main course and interestingly we weren't asked if we had enjoyed our meal. Dog friendly but no water for the dog?
