Had 2 nights. Ate at the restaurant which was your traditional Witherspoon fayre and they did try to charge me for someone else's meal as well as our own the 2nd night! Had to scrutinize the total bill on cheque out. Room was poor, confetti behind and under radiator, told staff day of arrival, was still there when they "cleaned". The bathroom speaks for itself. Wouldn't stay again. Over priced in every sense of the word and very pretentious.

We stayed at the George for 3 days in May. The village is lovely and the pub very well designed with a fantastic Menu. I can't shout loud enough pay a few pounds more and stay in the castle suite it's fantastic. All the staff were very friendly . The breakfast room is very well laid out and the walled garden very pretty . The only down side is the pub went very quiet very early after people had finished eating. Some nights we were on our own at around 9.30 but a great base for a fantastic break.

Food here is generally good. On a recent visit, there was a different feel to the pub. I fully believe that change/review of layout and menu's should happen regularly, but they have to be for the better. The menu has a more casual feel to it i.e. errs on the side of pizza/burger/pannini and their standard meals are less prominent. There is less casual seating in the bar which relegates the locals to other parts of the pub which changes the nice atmosphere. There is a ghastly picture on the... Read more

We went to Nunney to visit the castle and happened to arrive just before lunch... We were having a wonder around and saw this place which had a menu outside and thought we would try it. When we walked in, we were blown away by how lovely it was. It looked all brand new, the decor is modern but traditional, the garden is stunning and you can sit out there too. The food was very nice. We had a 2 year old with us and high chair was no problem and he ate a kids meal (not all of it, so they gave us ... Read more

I was one of a party of 8 who had cycled here from Bath. Arriving around 3.30 slightly aching and wet I was looking forward to a nice hot bath - but no hot water! I reported this to reception who blamed that morning's departures all having baths/showers before they left! Despite an assurance that the system would now be boosted I could not get a sufficient hot supply at any time that night. Decor wise the bedroom was nice and roomy with some period features. The public areas have been quite nice... Read more

I visited here with my husband on a Saturday evening, it was very busy, glad that we booked. The barman was very friendly, we decided to have our drinks outside of the front of the pub overlooking the castle. He came across to tell us when our table was ready and showed us in. Both meals were lovely and were enjoyed by us. We will be returning.

I would have rated this excellent if it wasnt for the tiny room we had (room 12) if you do not mind a very small room, small bed and a bathroom that is seperate and across the hallway with other bedrooms around then this is your room! I personally for £85 did not see the value. I did ask for an upgrade but they were fully booked which is understandable. The location of the hotel is superb, we went for a walk on arrival and stumbled across a derilict castle, really would recommend for the locat... Read more

We stayed in the castle suite, which was very reasonably priced for a lovely room. The four poster was very comfortable and the room clean and tidy. The bathroom was a tired, although the age of the building doesn't lend itself to extensive plumbing upgrades! The food was delicious with the steak and stilton pie the best I've had in a long time. Portions were more than generous, the price reasonable and the service attentive. I'd definitely recommend booking as it was very busy. All in all a lov... Read more

A quite like this pub/restaurant. Atmospheric, but not surprising since it is a 17th century coaching inn. Food was good, but not exceptional. Not sure it quite gets to "very good", but it's better than average and the value for money (in terms of at least the Sunday roast) warrants its award elevation. Parking is a bit of a problem. And then there's Nunney Castle to behold across the stream... a bit of history and beautiful on a sunny day.

We went for Sunday Lunch on Fathers Day, the restaurant was busy but very well organised and calm. The service was excellent, warm, friendly staff who were attentive. Despite the exterierior of the inn looking traditional the interior was very modern and well laid out. The Roast Beef lunch was absolutely gorgeous, all fresh produce and plentiful. Hadn't been to the George for a few years but took the opportunity to have a family dinner whilst back from the Middle East. I understand that the pub had fairly recently changed hands from the previous guy who totally transformed the place, I was pleased to see that standards have been retained. Good variety of beers and the food was good with large portions. Service was also quick and courteous.

Due to a typical chain pub menu we opted for two of the specials. The food was good but the lack lustre service, sticky tables, sticky menus, dirty carpets, stained walls and abundance of flies clearly spoilt the meal. We left after the main course and interestingly we weren't asked if we had enjoyed our meal. Dog friendly but no water for the dog?

Here's a typical British pub that has ideas above its (admittedly gorgeous) station. The owners obviously hope that the superb location will make you forget the distinctly below-average fare on the menu; the godawful decor; the breakfast experience that equals that given by a Happy Eater in about 1983 or the reception staff who seemed less interested in serving you than catching up on gossip with their mates. The George at Nunney is in a quiet village with a lovely castle, of which the hotel has views. The other direction one has views of a splendid terrace which would be great in the summer months. The room was OK although the bed was soft. The TV is very large with numerous channels. Our bathroom's 'over the sink' light did not work - probably needed a new bulb. We did ask for that to be sorted but all that happened was it was reported to the housekeeper for her to deal with the next day - when we ... Read more

Sadly , this was a working visit , I didn't have enough time to sample many of the fine beers that were available , nor did I sample the varied menu that was on offer . The food I saw being served looked very nice and there was a handsome serving being given out . My room was clean , comfortable with lots of coffee and nice biscuits , the TV was large and offered many channels. Breakfast was beautiful , well cooked , well presented , there was a counter so I coukd help myself to toast , cer... Read more

There were some very nice features - friendly reception staff; good breakfast with tasty bacon and sausage; the Cod ragout was also very tasty for evening meal; the Ceasar salad for lunch was gynormous! ; My bed was very comfortable and everything was clean and fresh. Why didn't I rate it a very good? My room was up three lots of stairs, the sofa in the room was a sofa bed - but it was extremely lumpy and uncomfortable to sit on; very small television; the paintwork needs some tidying up and ref... Stayed as B&B guests for one night. We received a warm welcome on arrival. Our room & bathroom were very clean, however the general décor was a bit tired and carpet, throws and cushions could do with replacing. The room itself was cold on arrival, and I don't think the heating can have been working as the radiators didn't come on when we were staying there. There was a fan heater in the room and this did heat it up pretty quickly. If the décor etc had been better our overall opinion would... Read more

We visited The George last week for a special meal for the family, as regulars we know it's always a lovely atmosphere but the fire was lit and we got a table next to it, so it was very cosy. Despite there being 8 of us the food came out promptly and was to a very good quality. The menu i think has recently changed as there was a lovely selection and tasty specials like Duck and Salmon which went down a treat. This place is always a favourite and we look forward to our next visit.

We were recommended to this pub by friends who have stayed. So we decided on an early evening meal on our way to Dorset. The decoration is beautiful a very tasteful mix of old and new. We has the Camembert sharer which was presented baked in a cob loaf. Quite unique and completely delicious. My fish and chips were perfectly cooked and my wife's halloumi burger looked awesome. The staff were very attentive to even though it was very busy. We only wish this pub was our local

We came as a group of 10 the night before a wedding so were understandably a little louder and more excitable than the other patrons. Our waitresses were very professional and told us to have fun and enjoy ourselves when we were worried about upsetting other diners. Food came quickly, was piping hot and plentiful. No complaints from anyone other than extremely full stomachs!! We paid separately which can sometimes be a hassle but it was taken care of by our waitress. This turned out to be... Read more

Rang and booked a reservation for 14.45 but when we arrived it had not been written down, fortunately there was a table available. This is my 2nd visit and today I seen a big change inside the pub very modern warm and nice colours. They even had a snug. On the menu was a choice and special deals for 1 course 2 courses and a 3 course all good value. My partner and myself went straight for a main and had a Lamb Roast it was very tasty, we also had a dessert each, we had 2 drinks each and the tot... Read more

This quaint coaching inn has been made into a wonderful hotel and restaurant destination. The room was lovely, with a outstanding view of the old castle and church. The food was excellent, with friendly and warm service provided from arrival to check out. Would recommend to anyone.

Not sure what has happened to this once very good restaurant. No Specials or pizzas on menu meant the options were limited. Pie of day was a standard pukka pie type thing. Soft pastry, chewy meat. Mash was lumpy and dry. Told waitress and this was taken off the bill. It was that bad! Triple cooked chips were nothing of the sort. Straight from the oven more like. Service was very slow and sorry to say perfunctory at best. Real shame as we have eaten here many times and it has always been go... Read more

Saturday dinner and overnight stay for a family 60th birthday celebration. Lovely pub with lots of character in this charming village. Very nice restaurant for dinner with good seating area for pre dinner drinks. Also outside seating. Our room was good. However, one of our party had room 7, which is best to avoid as above the kitchen and consequently hot and noisy. Tasty breakfast but service could be improved here. I left my kindle behind and was very impressed that the staff posted it to me - ... Read more

The George is an old building but has been modernised lovely, food and atmosphere was great and I would recommend to anyone visiting longleat. However we were a family with a toddler, we just had a double bed so my sleep wasn't great having to share with a very figgety two year old. Our room was small so wouldn't have even fitted our travel cot. The room was also so warm we tried to sleep in next to nothing with the window wide open when it was -2 or more outside. (Although they did apologise f... Read more
