*NB: this was a very brief visit, interacting with just one member of staff - probably (hopefully) not an accurate impression. I've heard good things about the food at The George over the years so I've long wanted to visit. Out walking in the rain yesterday afternoon, we needed to stop for coffee and to feed the baby. As it's the only place open in Nunney, we were reasonably sure that The George would be OK for us to have only coffee despite it being a pub / restaurant. We walked into a lo... Read more

Stayed at The George last night after visiting friends who live close by. Myself, my husband, almost 2-year-old daughter and 11 week old son, stayed in "The Little House", a two bedroom cottage just down the street from the main hotel. It was perfect! The master bedroom was huge, with more than enough space for myself, my husband and the baby, and a travel cot fit in the other small bedroom with ease - my daughter was clearly comfortable, as she slept a full 12 hours! The cottage has a fully f... Read more

What a wonderful pub a great place to come after viewing the incredible Nunney Castle and a winters hike through the beautiful countryside nearby !! The pub was so inviting warm and welcomed even us muddy boot hikers !! The manager was personable friendly and gave us tips about the area !! The pub is clean quirky and modern but it has not lost its old English traditional pud charm !! Toilets clean Arden area lovely !! Would highly recommend others to visit and we will be back !!!

I've stayed at The George several times over the past four years. I've always been in room 12 or room 13. The beds are comfortable, the rooms are clean, and pub and restaurant downstairs are very good. The staff are wonderful overall, and interesting people to get to know. The village residents frequent the pub and very social. The pub is one of the social centers of this small village. There's a walled garden in the back that was used even in the cooler winter season while I was there. I... Read more

Stayed overnight after a trip at longleat zoo with my partner and another couple. Quick check in, where we were shown to our room. Room was clean and cosy and we had no complaints. Dinner was booked for 7:30pm and we were able to get in early. Good choices and large variety. Was hard for all of us to pick, but eventually we did. Have to say portion sizes were huge and we had more food than we could manage. Was very tasty and we varied from steaks to ribs and burgers. All of us were very sati... Read more

Well well well ... it is one of the Hotels where they trying their best but ... I love old English houses with Character but this character is gone. A wild mix of LED -Lights all over the place and furniture village furniture. Please don't! I booked the hotel for our family so I was able to see 3 rooms. I just think it's so sad if someone want to change a old house into a new style one. Those "cheap" looking leather sofas all over, there a left over TV table in the hallway. It just feels so h... The George is an old building but has been modernised lovely, food and atmosphere was great and I would recommend to anyone visiting longleat. However we were a family with a toddler, we just had a double bed so my sleep wasn't great having to share with a very figgety two year old. Our room was small so wouldn't have even fitted our travel cot. The room was also so warm we tried to sleep in next to nothing with the window wide open when it was -2 or more outside. (Although they did apologise f... Read more

Saturday dinner and overnight stay for a family 60th birthday celebration. Lovely pub with lots of character in this charming village. Very nice restaurant for dinner with good seating area for pre dinner drinks. Also outside seating. Our room was good. However, one of our party had room 7, which is best to avoid as above the kitchen and consequently hot and noisy. Tasty breakfast but service could be improved here. I left my kindle behind and was very impressed that the staff posted it to me - ... Read more

Not sure what has happened to this once very good restaurant. No Specials or pizzas on menu meant the options were limited. Pie of day was a standard pukka pie type thing. Soft pastry, chewy meat. Mash was lumpy and dry. Told waitress and this was taken off the bill. It was that bad! Triple cooked chips were nothing of the sort. Straight from the oven more like. Service was very slow and sorry to say perfunctory at best. Real shame as we have eaten here many times and it has always been go... Read more

This quaint coaching inn has been made into a wonderful hotel and restaurant destination. The room was lovely, with a outstanding view of the old castle and church. The food was excellent, with friendly and warm service provided from arrival to check out. Would recommend to anyone.
