Visited Edinburgh to tour the castle. No hotel is more convenient to the castle than The Caledonian. This hotel is very modern and very clean! The staff is quite attentive, professional and precise, almost to the point of being cool. The facility is huge and I agree with another post about having to walk a long way from the elevator to the room. However, the breakfast buffet was wonderful and after telling the waitress we were in a hurry to catch a train she went out of her way to fix a "carry a... Read more

Usually...I stay at IHG hotels but as there were known in Edinburgh and I am a Gold Member of Hiltons Honors Club....and I had already decided that i wanted to stay at the 'Caley'....it was a done deal. I don't care what anyone writes about the few other 5* hotels in town because if you want to stay in a stunning luxurious hotel that will augment your stay in Edinburgh, you couldn't find a finer place. Stayed here for a celebratory weekend based on a prior recommendation. Lived up to its 5-star rating - facilities and staff all excellent. Particularly liked Peacock Alley - a very relaxing social hub all day from breakfast to late drinks. Good hotel location at top of Princes Street with onsite parking. Would definitely return for next special occasion.

This beautiful old building is stunning inside. The bedrooms well appointed and comfortable. Unfortunately we had a problem with our tv which was quickly resolved by the hotels electrician. We didn't have time to use the spa favilities but they looked fabulous and had I had more time I would have used them.

The location of this hotel is absolutely perfect. You are around the corner from all the history the Royal Mile has to offer and just adjacent to the shopping in downtown Edinburgh. The hotel staff is extremely friendly and the service was very prompt. There are some tech issues they need to focus on with the internet service availability and installing more routers, as well as the compatibility of their tech with iPhone. I would expect there to be USB chargers installed in the wall to negate... Read more

We knew this hotel from many moons ago, when it was in its heyday. We visited edinburgh frequently, and loved the style of the hotel and The Pompadour restaurant. This time we arrived to late to enjoy dinner but our room was fine - we have no complaints. And breakfast in the room arrived promptly and was served by an attentive staff member.

The first time I visited Edinburgh, there was a blizzard and I never even had a view of the castle so I vowed I'd come back and here I was. Delighted to have a hotel so close to the castle with such an interesting past (look up Royal Caledonian) I guess I had my hopes raised just a little too high. The room though spacious was threadbare; it was clear that keeping the charm meant keeping the furniture and carpeting. The bathroom was indeed grand with beautiful marble floors (which a spill and... Read more

From the outside, the building looked rather non-descript but stepping into the Waldorf Astoria in Edinburgh took you into a world of charm and grace and grandeur. This was not only in terms of physical space but the staff who served - from door man to reception to wait staff. We did not have rooms with views of any kind but the rooms themselves were large, comfortable and we had a lovely 2 nights . We had high tea and breakfasts in the hotel and enjoyed both

The young man who checked us in was lovely. The room was clean and kitkats on the pillows were a nice touch. The room was very hot. The ensuite bathroom was tiny and it took ages to work out how to turn the lights on for it. There was no space between the beds - we had a triple room. Breakfast was pretty poor. My son got a sausage sandwich and it was literally two sausages split down the middle between two bits of dry toast. The television in the room was very small

Be sure to book a Gin Tour at the Edinburgh Gin company- impressive We arrived back and get checked in to a small, modernized room painted black. Yes, black. After recently staying here I have got to admit for the price and star quality I was expecting a lot more. The decor is dated and the carpets have seen better days. The exec queen room we stayed in was very nice although consisted of a lot of scuffed paint which you wouldn't expect from such a hotel. The positives are the accommodating and friendly staff and great location!

The Edinburgh Caledonian is a beautiful and well known Edinburgh station hotel. The decor and ambiance in Peacock Alley is perfect for a luxurious afternoon tea experience. Service was first class and there is a choice between traditional or champagne afternoon tea. Beautifully presented with detailed explanation of all fillings in sandwiches and cakes, we were reminded that when we had finished the delights on the bottom cake stand,, fresh scones, jam and cream would follow. We spent a total of four nights here and were very comfortable. We spent three nights in the billy garough(sp?) suite, then left Edinburgh for three days and returning to a premium room for one night. The room had all the amenities of a luxury hotel. Both of our rooms(5th floor) had great castle views, but the windows were quite small.

The Waldorf thinks plastic corkscrews with their logo are a good idea for an in-room amenity? Really? You can guess that it was nearly impossible to insert into a cork and then you can guess what happens next - it snaps off when you try to pull out the cork. This just epitomizes what is wrong with this hotel. It has the name without the thoughtfulness, class or top service. Turn down service was skipped one night. Our room was not even cleaned until after 5 pm. It took several hours to get an ad... Read more

We stayed for the weekend to visit the Christmas markets and had a wonderful time. I requested rooms with Castle views, which the hotel provided with ease. From check in to check out, the staff could not have been better. They were so friendly and welcoming at all times. The hotel rooms were lovely, very comfortable and beautifully decorated. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel and look forward to staying here again soon.

I have traveled a lot around the world and I would say the staff here were some of the best. Dean took care of us as soon as we walked in the door. As a Diamond member you get some perks, but Dean and the staff took the extra step for us from room upgrade, dinner reservations, etc.. We were treated like kings here. I am sure not everyone gets this, but this time they set a new standard in my mind. Yes the hotel could use a little make over, but excellent anyways!

Our stay was fantastic and we loved the location for our honeymoon!! The staff was great and service was wonderful! The room was very clean but the bed was VERY uncomfortable and the sheets were horrible.

Just back from a fantastic spur of the moment stay at the Waldorf Astoria the staff were so friendly and helpful especially Malcolm at concierge he is a credit to the hotel. Fantastic room with stunning veiw of the castle, the room was lovely and the bed extremly comfy both my partner and I had a great nights sleep. I would definitely stay here again on my next visit to Edinburgh.

Once again this hotel does not disappoint, staff attention excellent, chef accommodated gluten free request without any fuss, bed linen crisp white and feather duvets, sleeping at the back quieter not the view but it's a room to sleep in. Great restaurant and bar, lovely food and great staff

Just checked out of the Waldorf. Me and my boyfriend decided instead of buying xmas pressies this year we would go to Edinburgh to see the christmas market and stay in a dearer hotel than we would normally stay. Paid £150 for one night which we were happy with as looks like a lovely hotel. We were greeted by a really friendly doorman who also parked our car for us. When we went up to see our room the cleaners were outside and had to move all there stuff to let us in. That was fine until we ... Read more

Coming from our place in Italy, as expats it was wonderful to be back in the world of the English language! The Caledonian was lovely with very friendly staff and wonderful views of the castle. We enjoyed the restaurants as well. For a birthday weekend, it was a lovely time, even though it was very cold! Great location too. Only one problem: our room had one very squeaky bed! Otherwise, we will be back!
