I don't really know what all of the bad reviews are about, the Ritz is an old styled hotel, of course the rooms and the decor is going to be dated, that's the style of the hotel!!! we had the room number 2 on the first floor, the room was so spacious we actually never had a room this big. The room is a Victorian type of room with big windows, big wardrobes and plenty of storage space, the bed was very comfortable. The shower pressure was so strong, we always had hot water unlike what people wrot... Read more

Half expected the worst having read some of the reviews. We had booked as it was within easy walking distance of Princes Street and the Hogmanay Street Party. Yes it is dated and could do with a bit of a makeover, but the rooms were fine, the bed was comfortable (although the duvet needs replacing as it was badly worn), the shower worked perfectly well, and the room was clean. It is basic but ideally situated and very good value. The staff were pleasant and the continental breakfast fine, though... Read more

The hotel is located near Haymarket station so has great transport connections to the city. We arrived a little early hoping to just drop off our bags with reception and head into town for some lunch, we were kindly told that our room was ready and we could have it early, one quirk about this hotel being old style is that the rooms uses actual keys which have to be left with reception when you leave the hotel and collected when you return. For us we wanted a hotel reasonably priced and well lo... Read more

Arrived expecting the absolute worst but to be fair it was ok...you get exactly what you pay for. I thought our room was adequate clean enough, hot water, beds were reasonably comfortable, facilities to make tea or coffee. The staff were very nice and chatty and they let us leave our stuff free of charge when we checked where some hotels in the same area charge. Breakfast was very basic but that was fine with us we had tea and toast but there was cereal, fruit and pastries available too. Not bad... Read more

1 star is too generous! the bed was broken, there was Damp on the walls in the bathroom, a massive stain on the carpet and the towels had some kind of bleach like stain on them. All of this i could probably put up with if it wasnt for the fact i've got a chest infection from it and we have now got a bed bug infestation in our house from the hotel! I know it was cheap but no matter how cheap you shouldnt have to put up with being bitten all night in your own home because of it! Now i am probab... Read more

I just want to say after reading all the reviews that this place is no where near as bad as people make out. I was greated by the legend Danish man who was very helpful. The stairs are a great workout to the top floor, but the carpet and staircase was magnificent to look at. The rooms were nice but my only complaint was the beds. Was a mission to not fall out of them but my core muscles are now rock hard. The room and everything else was spot on. Staff amazing and nice. And if you feel your work... Read more

Pros: Breakfast is ok, service is perfect, location is good and close to the subway, and room was quiet. Cons: Outdated, dirty, hot water didn't work, room is not comfortable (i.e. nowhere to put the towels, mattress quality), and in general it looks filthy, so you don't want to touch anything.

I really dont think this hotel deserves all those bad reviews it has. We did not know what to expect as silly me booked the hotel before checking the reviews (although I never trust reviews 100%, prefer to make my own mistakes :)). The hotel is old, rough around the edges and does need a makeover, but gosh its full of character!!! Its beautiful - high ceilings, big room, boutique beds, colourful bedding and towels. It was clean, had tea and coffee facilities, staff were friendly but not too intr... Read more

I stayed here for 2 nights and I did love my room- it was very grand, I did however feel I was staying in the hotel on American horror story! It was not super clean, but also not dirty, staff were polite enough, the hotel does need a serious update however for 2 nights it was cheap and cheerful- It was central- and had great links to the public transport and the city centre
