The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The room was adequate, clean, and homey. Loved the bathroom with the tub/shower and beautiful counters. It was the view out the window that won it for me and the sound of the pipers down below.

Comfortable hotel in an excellent location. Some stairs to get to reception so may not suit everyone. Breakfast buffet style but nevertheless good. Staff friendly. Room at the rear of the hotel very dark with frosted glass so if staying for longer , would have asked to move to a different room.

It was a tad expensive considering how much time you spend at the hotelroom, however the lokation and overall experience of the hotel was extremely positive. Recommendation would be that you choose a room without a livingroom, seeing as you most likely will never use this during your stay, and you pay a great deal to have it.

First the positives: Staff was pleasant and helpful, and the location was great. The furnishings were sub-standard for the price, and the beds were not high quality. Very expensive for what you get. You are paying for proximity to sites, and the property managers likely do not feel pressure to upgrade the quality of amenities because of the tremendous value of the location. We were not unhappy staying here, we only acknowledge that the value was heavily weighted in the location.

Fabulous hotel to use as a base to explore Edinburgh. Only downside is having to use stairs from street entrance, OK for most but difficult for wheelchairs/prams. Room was very clean and for a bit extra (£8) youget a fabulous view over Princes street.

This hotel is centrally located in Edinburgh a short walk or taxi ride if you've lots of bags from the train station and shops. The old skin of the original hotel building remains but inside, tastefully, they've done some very cool stuff and been sensitive to blending the old and the new creating a very nice space for guests to be. The staff here I have to say were fantastic whether it was the first rate concierge who couldn't do enough to assist me in changing rooms, booking restaurants etc. ... Read more

The best thing about this hotel is the location, very centrally located and you can walk most anywhere you want to go. The rooms are very old and in need of refurbishing. Not the cleanest of hotels, and carpets/furniture are soiled in places. We spent two nights there last week for a short break. It's right central overlooking Princess Street and really convenient for anywhere in Edinburgh. The room was on the second floor and on a corner with views from an alcove of both angles which was good. The bathroom facilities were modern and very clean. A Trouser press which doubled as an Ironing Board proved very handy. The food was good and not too expensive - however the toaster was temperamental in the morning - my idea of white toast wa... This hotel was in a central location, the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful, the reception is in need of a refurb. Breakfast was poor in the sense they did not top up quickly, bacon was over cooked most days, an australian visitor asked my opinion, he then said he was so dissapointed with the breakfast, they ate out every day. Due to single glazed windows, the traffic noise kept you awake, so book the back of the hotel, drunken brawling went on each night. Not value for money.

The Old Waverly in Edinburgh is an old hotel with very small rooms. And it's very noisy at night - especially if football is being played. Our room was so small, only one of us could pass the bottom of the bed at a time without the other one crawling over the bed. My advice is get TWO TWINS - NOT A DOUBLE. The bathroom is also small with a high bath tub. If you have hip problems, forget it. The Lift (Elevator) will only hold two people with one suitcase each. Otherwise you have to use the s... There are plenty of choices in Edinburgh so I did a lot of research before deciding on The Old Waverley. I only had one night so it was important to me to be close enough to walk the Royal Mile. Stayed here for 1 night when we arrived in Edinburg and returned to stay again on our return trip. Overall room is ok and bathroom is spacious. Our second stay the room was much nicer with the city view. Breakfast was nice & cosy, don't expect big spread of various types of food but I thought it was sufficient. I'll stay again if I go back to Edinburg as location is great! Very near to the train station and it wasn't noisy at all in the hotel or the room.

Stayed 3 nights at this hotel and was lucky that my room was on level 1 as the lift was not working the whole time we were there. My friends had rooms on 3rd and 5th floor and thankfully had porterage help with their huge and heavy luggages. The hot breakfast that was inclusive was good except that it only starts at 8am on weekends. Today, the croissant ran out at 845am even though breakfast only just started for 45mins. Nonetheless, I will likely stay here when I visit Edinburg again.

Had a fabulous time in Edinburgh and I always feel like the hotel makes it. The staff were friendly and the location couldn't have been any better if they tried - opposite the train station and minutes walk from the major places in Edinburgh City. Price was very reasonable for the quality of the rooms. When I next plan on heading up to Edinburgh will definitely consider The Old Waverley Hotel.

Stayed for 3 nights over August bank holiday . Room was clean and a good size. This hotel is in a perfect location for exploring the city, just across the road from the station and in the middle of the shopping area. Also near castle. Nice bar with comfortable chairs and pleasant staff. The only let down was the breakfast. Staff not friendly or helpful. Also food not good, it put us off to have dinner there. Would stay again but not have breakfast, plenty of places nearby.

We stayed in Edinburgh 22/24 August with two other couples to attend the Royal Military Tattoo. Two couples were from Australia and the third couple was from Northumberland, England and all felt the same. We knew the cost was expensive but thought it was acceptable due to the central location and position of our rooms, all overlooking Princes Street. The tour bus stops were across the road which also made this the perfect location. Unfortunately, that is where my positive comments stop. The ... Read more

Fantastic value right on Edinburgh's Princes Street, across from the Scott Monument, some rooms have a view of the castle. Clean, and recently renovated, you just can't beat the value with close proximity to the railway station and Edinburgh's amazing bus system. City Tour buses also across the street and the famous Princes Street Gardens. Nice price too and friendly efficient check in an and out service. Restaurant with breakfast on the first floor. They still use room keys!

What a great spot to stay in Edinburgh, very close to the train station, and across the street to Old Town in two seconds. Had thee best Nachos I've ever had in my life here, and the lounge, well, I could just sit there all day and look out the windows. Rooms wreaked of charm, so did the building, all except for the broken lift. Had to walk up 6 flights of steps. Yikes. They helped with bags, but quite a hike for anybody over 50. Located on central Princes Street was brilliant. Breakfast being included was a bonus - although it was poor quality and the serving staff were consistently slow at replenishing breakfast items. Our "standard double" room was cramped and depressing with a tiny, single glazed sash window, in a small alcove overlooking the back alley. My wife couldn`t sleep for much of our 2 night stay because of the noise outside. If we stayed here again, I would have to pay extra for an upgraded room. (Note - W... Read more

As everyone has commented, the Old Waverly is in an excellent location, on Princes St directly opposite the Scott Monument. It is situated in walking distance from all major sights, and in easy access of restaurants and shopping. The main problem we faced was that we had a rental car from our drive in other parts of Scotland, and it was extremely inconvenient that there's no parking attached to the hotel or nearby. This was not explicit in the advert. The Waverly has an agreement for reduced par... Read more

Our room was large and comfortable. The staff was very helpful in answering all our questions. The hotel is in a perfect location to see central Edinburgh or to catch a hop on/hop off tour bus or city bus to take you wherever you want to go. The only drawback to this trip was that the lift was out of service for most of our stay which meant lots of stair climbing - not too bad unless you are lugging suitcases. It was fixed by the last day of our stay. Good location!
