My mum and I stayed at the Murrayfield Hotel for 3 nights, we had planned a trip to Edinburgh Zoo to see the Giant Panda's which was 15 min walk/2 min bus ride. We loved the hotel the ambience was just lovely, in a great location, £4 a day bus ticket got us everywhere we wanted. The hotels Scottish breakfast was scrummy Andy the waiter was so lovely and helpful. Mum & I ended up with a superb cocktail in the Brothy before bed to finish each day . This hotel is in a good location with an excellent bus service right outside the hotel so you can leave your car behind and travel into the city centre for £1.20 single, you must give the correct fare because they do not give change. Our room was superb but I think it was possibly the best in the hotel because family that joined us for 1 night were given a far more inferior room and at a higher rate. Apart from the noise from the road and draughty windows we couldn't fault our room and gorgeous... Read more

The general opinion of Tripadvisor reviewers proved to be correct - Murrayfield Hotel is value for money, has friendly staff and the food is good. Apart from the above general comments, other plus points include the car park, the handy location for getting into or out of Edinburgh, the generous hospitality tray, the spacious room and well appointed bathroom. An special plus was being assigned a quiet room at the back (?203), because the traffic noise cannot be too pleasant at the front. I would ... Read more

We've stayed here before and were generally happy with it as indeed we were this time. There is however a lack of attention to detail. The shower was frankly dirty---full of mould because it wasn't being thoroughly cleaned. I suspect it was only getting a wipe over. Likewise, the relatively new carpet had walked-in stains in several places. We knew from our previous stay not to have the cooked breakfast--- it wasn't very good---so we opted for the buffet. It was adequate but could have been a lo... Read more

The hotel was lovely from the outside, I was greeted by a really welcoming receptionist. She was brilliant, very efficient and made sure I'd have everything I'd need. She took me to the room which was next door to the main building, it almost felt like I had a cottage to myself. I'd requested a quiet room and it was exactly what I'd asked for. The room was enormous, beautifully furnished, meticulously clean. There were some really nice touches to the welcome, scottish teacakes and variety of tea... Read more

I took a friend here to celebrate her 30th birthday as part of a weekend away in Edinburgh. We booked it after two other friends had stayed here and had a wonderful time. The service was excellent and although we only ate breakfast, the food was great. There's a bus stop right outside, which easily takes you into the city centre, plus it's a 20 minute walk to the zoo and only about a 30 min cab ride to the airport. We had our base here to start off our Scotland trip in Edinburgh and we very much liked it. While the interior is exactly what you would expect from a star hotel it was the service and the staff that made it so much more. Yes the room was a bit on the small side , the furniture and carpet not the newest but this is not the Ritz. Conveniently located about 15pound by taxi away from the airport and on the main road with easy access to buses it was close enough to the main city. Haymarket train sta... Read more

Very warm welcome. The room was fantastic and bed comfortable. The little 'extras' in the room were a nice touch. My evening meal was superb. Staff were excellent and service quick. However'the same couldn't be said for breakfast service. The poor waiter must've been let down by other staff as he was the only one working. As a result, I was pointed to a seat in his rush. Breakfast took 20minutes and when it did arrive it was cold and the maple syrup was saturated into pancakes. (Why no option ... Read more

After our lunch at the hospitality suite and as my husband's cousin was at another table from us we decided to go for a refreshment to the Murrayfield Hotel and obtained a good seat just for a blether. We only had the one refreshment - 2 large glasses of wine, a proscecco and a half pint which came to over £23 which I don't know if is expensive for the area. However we had not seen each other for a year therefore good for a catch up.

Walk into the "lobby" (a hallway - there is no lounge and only a single niche with a table that is always occupied) and discover you've entered a world of battleship grey. Walls, sconces, balustrades, you name it, it's grey and dismal. The people at the desk were pleasant but looked like they'd just walked in off the street. We booked for a weekend break and were very impressed by the images on the hotel's website. Whilst the public areas were impressive the room was extremely small - much smaller than any of the room photos displayed for the price. There was nowhere to sit apart from the bed and the window looked directly out to the car park so the blind had to remain closed. Where to start? There is little money spent on maintenance of this hotel. Our room on the first floor had a drawer handle on the bedside table that was hanging free. The normal card key on the door was broken, so an inexpensive hardware store lock was installed, where the latch entered the frame only 3mm. Any credit card put between the door and frame could have defeated it. I placed a chair full of glassware in front of the door the two nights I was there to assuage my wife's fears of unwanted ... I appreciate there is a premium to be paid during the Edinburgh festival, but for the price paid I would expect a hotel in far better condition. Chipped and dirty paint work, stained carpets and a general shabby un cared for interior. The breakfast at £10 per person is vastly over priced for the quality and choice. The service was no more than satisfactory at breakfast. On a good note, the staff at reception were always very helpful.

We stayed here for four nights in July. One of the reasons we chose this hotel was due to it's close proximity and ease of getting to the airport, the other was for the golf. We had a deluxe king room and found the room specious, bed was very comfortable with nice linens, bathroom was of good size with nice toiletries and a heavenly heated towel rack. One of the poorest meals I have eaten this year. As I have coeliac disease I require gluten free food and they were informed on booking. The choices were minimal. The chips were coated in flour so offered a steak with mashed potato. Had bland dish of duck - tasteless and unappealing. Waitress did her best but the restaurant has failed to provide a choice of gluten free tasty food. We stayed here for one night on 10th August during our honeymoon. The hotel had put roses on the bed when we arrived. We stayed in room 19 it was a little warm but there was a fan in the room. Chipped paint work, filthy carpets, dirty walls, over priced breakfast, unfriendly waiters/waitresses not what I would expect from an alleged 3 star hotel. Yes there is a premium to be paid at this time of year, but the hotel failed to meet expected standards. The breakfast choice at £10 per person needs to be looked at as the continental choice is woeful and the cooked breakfast are not generous. Stayed as a solo traveller during the Fringe. The hotel is on a busy bus route, so I was able to buy a day ticket for 4 pounds and hop on/off buses all day (it's only a ten minute bus trip from the hotel to Princes Street). I also used the airport bus at the end of my stay which was easy. It's a flat walk from the hotel to Princes Street - you'll need 30-40 minutes, and another 10-15 minutes from there uphill to the castle.
