We stayed here for 4 nights in April/May in a room on the 4th floor. It's a simple place, but clean and comfortable in a great location to hit Old Town. The bed was comfy, and the bathroom was small, but well appointed, and the shower was roomy and had great water pressure. The only complaint is that the sink seems far too large for the counter, but there was a shelf over the toilet where you could place toiletry bags and such. Bit awkward to keep going back and forth, but it was a minor inconve... Read more

I've stayed in motel one for 6 nights while visiting Edinburgh on business trip. Hotel was able to accommodate my special requests for quite room and high floor. Room is very basic, but clean and comfortable. Absolutely perfect for three star hotel. Location is absolutely ideal in the heart of the city. The only cons is breakfast. It was a surprise that the serve continental breakfast in Scotland. Only cold snacks and food is available. It is ok for 1-2 days, as the choise is good enough. But ... Read more

No air conditioning and a maze to walk though with stairs and no ramps between floors. You have to walk through a maze of stairs and floors to get to your room and when you finally get there it's 100 degrees! No phone to call lobby. Another couple on the floor had their door open and needed a fan just to be able to survive in their baking room! When I went downstairs to ask about the temperature I was told they don't have air conditioning but could offer a fan. What hotel that charges upwards of... Read more

I booked this trip for my husband's birthday which falls on a Bank Holiday weekend, so I was expecting to pay a hefty price for two nights in Edinburgh, but was really surprised by the cost of Motel One. As such, I managed my expectations of the hotel but was very suitably impressed on arrival - the look and feel of the communal areas are upmarket, and the hotel bar was sophisticated, with a great range of drinks. The staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful, and while you don't have some o... Read more

Great location, easy walk to food and drinks. No parking and although parking station near by it is quite expensive. Rooms are a little small and stuffy but nice and tody. Staff during breakfast were fantastic, very friendly and welcoming.

We arrived Friday 27th May, booked into a Classic room, room 406, the room was fairly spacious, and a nice bed, however that is all I can say in favour of it, it was dark, due too it's aspect, little in the way of storage, a so called built in wardrobe, with 6 hangers, no drawers, or cupboard space to mention, the tea making equipment (which is limited) is on the so called movable desk, and pretty much take up most of it, and was also about six foot away from a socket, no dressing table, phone ... I had never been to Edinburgh before and we picked this hotel based on trip advisor reviews. It was the best location possible. 2 minute walk to the Royal Mile and opposite the train station. The buses to the airport went from just across the road, we really couldn't have been in a better location. The rooms were lovely but quite simple, we had an issue with our room on the first night and the hotel staff were really accommodating and changed our room the next morning. I would definitely recomme... Read more

I stayed two nights here and as the title says, I can't complain. Very clean, small and basic room, but everything you need for a weekend out and about. If you want a hotel room to spend time in then it's probably not the one but for a hotel in edinburgh, right on princes St, 5 mins from the old town just over the bridge that doesn't rip you off over the weekend it's a deal. Go out door of hotel and look left, the pub facing you,( can't remember it's name but it's the only one there ) its wor... Read more

We stayed for 2 nights. Our room was very clean and when the cleaner came to tidy after our first night she did a very good job. The receptionists are very friendly and efficient. The only downsides were that we were on the 7th floor and it was very hot - there didn't seem to be any air conditioning as far as I could tell - so we opened the windows but it was very noisy outside. I know the noise couldn't be helped as it is a very busy area so that didn't bother us but it was more the heat in the... Read more

This hotel is brilliant if you are travelling by train, as it is right next door to Waverley Station. The hotel looks from the street like a small boutique hotel, but its only when you get inside do you realise it is half the street. It is very clean, the staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. The room was clean and functional, but not spartan. I bought the full Scottish breakfast from the Weatherspoon Pub, The Ticket Office across the street on Waverley Bridge.

I stayed her for a long weekend with my partner and I have never been so impressed. The welcoming we got was amazing and the girls at the desk were so lovely. The room was so lovely, slight cobwebs at the Windows but over all immaculate. The bed was a queen size and so comfortable. I saw reviews of the double beds having 2 single duvets which worried me but when we got there it was one duvet. I cannot commend the staff enough on being so polite, helpful, kind and funny. Large, clean rooms and could not be in a better location. I was staying in the second building which was a mission to get to and when i looked out my window i was back behind reception! Despite going up to the 5th floor, across a glass bridge and then down to the 3rd floor. Breakfast was continental and had a good choice available and the staff were nothing but friendly. I will definitely be staying here again,

Stayed Tue to Thu for daughter's graduation. Staff helpful, rooms expensive and inhospitable. Price was £95 per night. First room, air conditioning didn't work, skylight window that couldn't open, room like a sauna, fan in room to solve the problem simply moved hot air round. Asked reception for another room with a window allowing in fresh air. Second room the window didn't open, only had a grill and looked out on to a busy passageway used by tourists, so had to pull curtain for privacy then tu... Read more

This hotel is located at the edge of Old Town and New Town, just beside Waverley train station and 100m from where the airport buses leave you. The room was very clean, with a good shower and comfy bed. Staff were friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

The strength of this hotel is its location close to the rail station, Princes Street and the old town. As others have said it looks smart and staff are pleasant and friendly. However, getting to the rooms takes a while as it is a bit of a labyrinth. The room had no air conditioning and was a bit of a sauna. I had to have the window wide open and then of course you hear all the street noise. There were also a few strange things in my room. There was no switch for the bedside lights they just came... You can't beat the location of this hotel - kitty corner to Edinburgh Waverley train station, down the street from an Enterprise, straight down the steps from the Royal Mile, and with easy access to every possible amenity. Our room was huge, and while it wasn't the most expensive hotel, it certainly felt nicer than we paid for. We would come back in a heartbeat.

We (wife & daughter) had a 1 night stay here and the location was perfect. Access to the hop on/off bus & train station just out the front. Room was comfortable, staff were friendly and the breakfast had a reasonable selection to choose from to suit most people's tastes

If you are looking for a solid clean room and can tolerate a bit a street noise, this is a good choice. Nothing fancy, but more than adequate for a stay in the center of town. It is right on the edge of the main rail station, so you will hear the trains until around 10 pm. Excellent internet, and accommodating staff.

Stayed here recently for two nights- amazing central location close to both the old and the new town. Didn't avail of breakfast but it looked great. Air conditioning wasn't working during our stay but reception provided us with a fan- it was well used throughout the stay!! The rooms are basic but have everything you need. The staff here are excellent and so friendly. Have stayed in the princes street property also on another visit and I would definitely return again!

We booked Motel one for our wee family of 3 for a trip to visit relatives. Because its a so called budget hotel we didn't expect much. We were really impressed with the hotel overall. When we booked we told the receptionist our requirements. ie cot. lots of room, easy access for prams etc. We got a nice big, very clean, modern room. Nice sized shower, big bed, Clean travel cot. (harder than you think in some places). We needed somewhere to store medicine for our daughter and the staff were happy... Read more

Motel One claims to be a budget hotel. Well, I paid 100 euros per night which is more or less normal price in Edinburgh during the week. The hotel's location is unbeatable - just across the main railway station and Airlink busstop. The rooms are nice and clean, but lack some basic amenities such as a luggage rack. The standard room is also pretty small. But they're stylish and the bathrooms are clean and well equipped. Service was very friendly and helpful. Be aware, though, when paying for the... Read more

After my first stay at the German chain here in Edinburgh - I was blown away! Motel One has become my new favorite chain in Europe! I am a fan of chain hotels for their consistency and standard level of service (yeah, I know I am missing out out on the ??local flavor??). Ibis and Premier Inn are my two go-to chains in Europe, Motel One has now shot up to the top of that list. For a moderate price (slight higher than the Premier Inn), you get a wonderfully stylish, modern, and clean room; frie... Read more

I stayed here on business for three nights in July 2016. The hotel location is great and that's pretty much the best thing about it. The rooms and public areas are very clean and it pretty much has everything you need. Like other reviewers, I had the experience of my room being raided by extremely enthusiastic cleaners at 08.15 AM - so make sure you use the do not disturb sign! The breakfast isn't great and I spotted mouldy bread one morning. There are either massively over cooked or almost ... Read more

We travelled in February of this year and booked via an online agent at a very good price. The hotel is right outside of Waverley station (which was perfect as we had booked to travel via trains, until we realised there was a lot of maintenance work being done and 1/2 of our journey was via coach!). The hotel reception is nice, large and spacious. The bar is directly near the door and was a perfect cosy spot for late night drinks. Our room was right outside of the station, with windows overl... The location of this hotel can't be beat. It's steps from the Waverley Train Station, right below the Royal Mile (next to Advocate's Close), steps from the aiport bus, and across the bridge from the Scott monument and the New Town. Booked for two nights on a quick visit to Edinburgh - suggested by friends from Germany who had stayed in 2015. Quiet room, not with a street view but that's probably why it was so quiet. Breakfast buffet with a wide choice including local (Stoats) muesli - very tasty. Rooms have UK and continental European sockets. Staff very friendly and helpful; you can hardly be closer to Waverley station.
