We stayed here for 4 nights in April/May in a room on the 4th floor. It's a simple place, but clean and comfortable in a great location to hit Old Town. The bed was comfy, and the bathroom was small, but well appointed, and the shower was roomy and had great water pressure. The only complaint is that the sink seems far too large for the counter, but there was a shelf over the toilet where you could place toiletry bags and such. Bit awkward to keep going back and forth, but it was a minor inconve... Read more

I've stayed in motel one for 6 nights while visiting Edinburgh on business trip. Hotel was able to accommodate my special requests for quite room and high floor. Room is very basic, but clean and comfortable. Absolutely perfect for three star hotel. Location is absolutely ideal in the heart of the city. The only cons is breakfast. It was a surprise that the serve continental breakfast in Scotland. Only cold snacks and food is available. It is ok for 1-2 days, as the choise is good enough. But ... Read more

No air conditioning and a maze to walk though with stairs and no ramps between floors. You have to walk through a maze of stairs and floors to get to your room and when you finally get there it's 100 degrees! No phone to call lobby. Another couple on the floor had their door open and needed a fan just to be able to survive in their baking room! When I went downstairs to ask about the temperature I was told they don't have air conditioning but could offer a fan. What hotel that charges upwards of... Read more

I booked this trip for my husband's birthday which falls on a Bank Holiday weekend, so I was expecting to pay a hefty price for two nights in Edinburgh, but was really surprised by the cost of Motel One. As such, I managed my expectations of the hotel but was very suitably impressed on arrival - the look and feel of the communal areas are upmarket, and the hotel bar was sophisticated, with a great range of drinks. The staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful, and while you don't have some o... Read more

We arrived Friday 27th May, booked into a Classic room, room 406, the room was fairly spacious, and a nice bed, however that is all I can say in favour of it, it was dark, due too it's aspect, little in the way of storage, a so called built in wardrobe, with 6 hangers, no drawers, or cupboard space to mention, the tea making equipment (which is limited) is on the so called movable desk, and pretty much take up most of it, and was also about six foot away from a socket, no dressing table, phone ... I had never been to Edinburgh before and we picked this hotel based on trip advisor reviews. It was the best location possible. 2 minute walk to the Royal Mile and opposite the train station. The buses to the airport went from just across the road, we really couldn't have been in a better location. The rooms were lovely but quite simple, we had an issue with our room on the first night and the hotel staff were really accommodating and changed our room the next morning. I stayed two nights here and as the title says, I can't complain. Very clean, small and basic room, but everything you need for a weekend out and about. If you want a hotel room to spend time in then it's probably not the one but for a hotel in edinburgh, right on princes St, 5 mins from the old town just over the bridge that doesn't rip you off over the weekend it's a deal. We stayed for 2 nights. Our room was very clean and when the cleaner came to tidy after our first night she did a very good job. The receptionists are very friendly and efficient. The only downsides were that we were on the 7th floor and it was very hot - there didn't seem to be any air conditioning as far as I could tell - so we opened the windows but it was very noisy outside. This hotel is brilliant if you are travelling by train, as it is right next door to Waverley Station. The hotel looks from the street like a small boutique hotel, but its only when you get inside do you realise it is half the street. It is very clean, the staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. The room was clean and functional, but not spartan. I bought the full Scottish breakfast from the Weatherspoon Pub, The Ticket Office across the street on Waverley Bridge.

The strength of this hotel is its location close to the rail station, Princes Street and the old town. As others have said it looks smart and staff are pleasant and friendly. However, getting to the rooms takes a while as it is a bit of a labyrinth. The room had no air conditioning and was a bit of a sauna. You can't beat the location of this hotel - kitty corner to Edinburgh Waverley train station, down the street from an Enterprise, straight down the steps from the Royal Mile, and with easy access to every possible amenity. Our room was huge, and while it wasn't the most expensive hotel, it certainly felt nicer than we paid for. We would come back in a heartbeat.

If you are looking for a solid clean room and can tolerate a bit a street noise, this is a good choice. Nothing fancy, but more than adequate for a stay in the center of town. It is right on the edge of the main rail station, so you will hear the trains until around 10 pm. Excellent internet, and accommodating staff.

Great location. Actually in a real wheel chair accessible room with extra wide door into room and into bathroom. Shower screen swings to wall and bathroom floor slopes to drain. Room is let down by arcane air conditioning that was set to 26 degrees Celsius. Like previous guests I have opened window and as the rain is pouring down the air conditioner is working hard to desiccate the air. There really needs to be more explanation in their reservation system regarding the cell-like nature of the lower priced rooms. Simply stating at check-in that the room does not have a window does not capture the cramped and depressing nature of these spaces. Catch the Bus 100 from the Airport and it stops literally in front of this cool hotel. Don't be put off by the name - it is a very good, stylish, clean and central hotel. The staff are all exceptionally friendly. The beds comfortable (the rooms are small - but this is the good thing about it - as it makes a stay very affordable) Stayed here for 1 night, then came back for an additional 2 nights. If you want Doormen and need loads of staff running around you in the hope to get a tip, if you like ... Read more

First time visiting Edinburgh and first time staying in a Motel One hotel; my husband and I both thought it was absolutely lovely - we were given room 636 which appeared to be an the attic rooms - thought we might have needed satnav to find it but the lovely lady on reception gave us perfect directions which were easy enough to follow, even after a few drinks! The room itself was very spacious and a lot larger than what we were expecting - the bathroom was absolutely lovely, the best shower I... Read more

The location of the hotel is great. Just cross the road from the train station. It face the busy noisy Prince Street but the room was quiet. The decoration was very simple but still has a stylish feeling. The staff were friendly.

Great Hotel in a great location. We stayed here for our Honeymoon and found it very conveniently located with easy access to both the Old and New town attractions. The only minor wee issue was that the hotel was very warm and not air conditioned which meant we spent every night sleeping on top of the covers Highly recommended

The location is fantastic, it's just over the waverly bridge so if you are coming by bus/train the walk is quite short. The price for us was quite good and even though we couldn't quite figure out he cooling system the double windows allowed for great air flow but also kept out noise at night. We chose not to have the $9 breakfast and instead walked over to the pret a manger and had breakfast there each morning. The front desk was helpful and printed out some things for us which was very nice. T... Read more

I booked here because of its situation - right by Waverley train station and just a short walk (uphill!) to university, museum, castle etc. My room was in an adjacent building but excellent signage meant I found my way very easily to and from. My room decor and bathroom were modern, on the minimalist side but attractive, the bed very comfortable, bedside reading lights a decent strength and soundproofing perfect. The reason I dropped it to four stars is that the room was air-conditioned to an Am... Read more

Stayed here with group of 6 for 2 nights. Very clean and modern and staff are very friendly and helpful. Rooms are small but have everything you need. Continental breakfast good. We are now back here on our own for another two nights.

Clean, quiet and comfortable rooms; appealing modern decor. Friendly and helpful staff - wonderful location to explore Edinburgh on foot. Elevators - some distance to get to rooms depending on if you are in the main building or adjoining building, but path is indoors and well-marked. Bar is charming but service is inconsistent - high prices for spirits, stick to ale or seek out other bars. Close to Waverley Station - overall a great value.

After vacillating between this property and the Radison at double the price, I took a chance based on other reviews. This hotel has been somewhat recently redone. It is modern, clean, simple yet well appointed, nice linens, and no noise problems. The location was perfect for restaurants, Royal Mile, train station, most tour pick ups. Lovely front desk staff, got us in our room as early as possible as we had been traveling all night from me the US.

We stayed here for two nights and it was perfectly located for seeing the Royal Mile. The room was small but clean and had everything we needed. The staff at the front desk was great, they were very accommodating in storing our bags until check in. We did not eat here for breakfast but it looked like a nice buffet. If you're looking for proximity to the major attractions I'd definitely recommend this property.

Yes this is affordable as mentioned but this was our experience. Waited till 5pm for a room that we contact reception at 8 am. Room is a difficult journey if you have baggage. Internet was very spotty. Electric plugs are not easy to work with. TV didn't work. Electricity went off for 3 hours making the room very hot as window doesn't open. The good is hotel very clean and staff were very helpful

I found this hotel to be great value for its price. The reception staff were very pleasant and friendly, and the room was perfectly nice. I also really enjoyed the breakfast options, which are continental and are what I prefer anyway. The location is great; very close to Waverly Train Station and Princes Street, and just 2 minutes from the Royal Mile. The only downsides are that the rooms are not equipped with irons which is slightly inconvenient if you are pressed for time, and the desk space i... Read more

This property was located nearly right across the street from the Edinburgh Waverly train station which made it very convenient coming in off a late train. It's situationed only a few minute walk from the Edinburgh Castle and lots of pubs and fun museums and shops. The breakfast was filling and well laid out, however, nearly $26 USD for two for a cold buffet breakfast was a little steep in my opinion, but again, points for the convenience of it as we had an early tour to catch. The only drawbac... Read more

We stayed here as part of a large group of friends for a wedding and whilst it's not a luxury hotel; and doesn't claim to be, it was great value for the price we paid. We arrived much earlier than planned and we weren't supposed to check in until around 3pm however, our room was ready for us so we were able to check in sooner which was a great start to our weekend. The staff are very warm and friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them at all. The room itself, was basic but modern and exc... Read more

The Hotel is like many Motel One: cosy Breakfast area is nicely decorated and the continental breakfast is how it should be (no cooked breakfast) Rooms are clean, modern, a little small but giving a good sleeping experience Staff is friendly Right area for a visit of Edinburgh Compared to the pricy hotels in the area I believe this is a good bargain.

Motel One - Royal (there is another one so be careful) is just 50m from Edinburgh Waverley Rail Station and a walk 100m up Cockburn Street to the Royal Mile. It couldn't be better located! Even if you've flown in, the Airlink 100 bus drops you off right outside (£4.50 from the airport). The hotel is spotlessly clean and attractive in design. The staff were happy and helpful. Check-in was quick with no hitches. I had a little issue with room 312 - TV not working - but they offered me 417. Tha... Read more

This is a nice hotel. It's location is what is extremely attractive about it. Nice bar. Contemporary. Some staff on desk very friendly and helpful. Others not so. Nice area when you walk in. Room are okay. Although something I've never experienced in a hotel before...... are sockets mid way up the wall! And No wardrobe?! As in.... Not a single wardrobe. Just hangers on a bar. We had to ask for extra hangers !!! It's fine- clean , basic and fine if you're there for a wknd and barely in it. A... Read more
