Lovely street, lovely building, loveky staff but my room was not nice at all. Very claustrophobic as it had no proper window just a very high skylight velux. No TV or hairdryer in room and I couldn't find anyone to request latter at around 8.00 pm. Breakfast was good and varied but I wouldn't return or recommend to friends. My room definitely spoiled this stay and was not worth the £67 I paid. Website photos and reviews I read were very misleading in my case.

We stayed at The Halcyon last night. It was close to The Playhouse Theatre where we were seeing a show. It was fine for a one night stay. We were in room one which is a family room. My mum is disabled and this room was on the ground floor. Nice view onto back garden. The room was clean and warm. Decor could do with a freshen up though. We did have a bit of difficulty getting mum's wheelchair into the hotel as there are a few steps. A ramp would have made all the difference. I would have like... Read more

the hotel is ok for a few nights, but not for people who normally go to normal hotels. this one is a mix of B&B and hotel. it is quite old with dirty carpet, water from shower is not existing - impossible to wash long hairs :-). The service is not there, they would ask you if you want the room to be done.....but hey, it is not a pricey hotel so you get what you pay for

we were booked for one night only by our travel agent, just needed a place to sleep before traveling on. We arrived late and another guest let us in the front door. However at that point there was no reception desk or phone and the doors were closed. We puzzled over this for a while and when another family came in, they showed us the buzzer outside that would alert the owner to our presence. Matthew came from his room and greeted us warmly. We did have to walk up but that was not a problem... Read more

We enjoyed our stay here, even with the walk up. We knew when we booked that we had the top floor, so no surprise there. We chose the Halcyon because we wanted character; not a modern, glitzy hotel. We stayed for three days and had two rooms. The rooms were very clean and the beds comfortable. We had no problem with noise. The bathroom amenities included air freshener, shampoo packets, pump hand lotion, and soap bars. The bathroom shower was interesting to us Americans, but worked just fine (n... Read more

Great location, really friendly staff, cleaner than a lot of chain hotels who charge a lot more. Breakfast is substantial and high quality. The rooms are a bit dated. Perfect for a weekend visit when all you need is somewhere to sleep and shower.

Lying here at 0210hrs awake due to a noisy fan from the room below. It is a loud deep moaning noise that is almost deafening coming through the floor. I have tried contacting staff through the telephone and even gone downstairs and rung the front door bell!! But cannot find anyone. This is ridiculous. Cannot think of a worst place I have ever stayed in. I just wish I could record this and post it. We are booked for 2 nights but will leave in the morning tired and angry.

I stayed here one night to meet my sons in town for the Festival, a single room and private bathroom with breakfast sounded like just what I needed. I arrived to be shown my single room, it was pretty small and no bathroom in the room as I understood from the description. As another reviewer pointed out it involves going out of the room and across the hall, not really ideal. The bed was comfortable enough, although I was wakened very early by guests on the stairs, the head of the bed is right b... Read more

really lovely accommodation in a good location that's easy to walk to the centre of town. the owners are really friendly and helpful. inside the building itself is beautiful and the room is nice and light. the bed was comfy and there were a couple of sitting chairs and a table. nice big closet and the shower had good water pressure. there's a sitting room with a television and books. included breakfast consists of hot drinks, juices, cereal, fruit, and a hot breakfast. they cater for vegetarians... Having looked at reviews prior to booking I'd expected a bit more. Wound up booking on Orbitz and it didn't indicate that my room did not have en suite bath. Upon check-in, staff informed me of this, which was disappointing. Then she stated breakfast hours, which didn't begin until 8, which seem late for a weekday. If you're unable to make it to breakfast service, they'll leave a tray for you in the lobby with cereal and/ or fruit of your choosing. However, it came with milk (milk+cereal...mak... Read more
