Don't really have much to say on the hotel. It was fantastic. Great location, helpful staff amazing food. It is a 5 minute walk from Edinburgh Castle and and staff could always point you in the direction of something to do. If I am nitpicking the view left something to be desired however, pretty amazing.

Stayed in great room overlooking the back of the hotel. There was no noise to speak of and we had a very pleasant rest after a great night out in Edinburgh. The hotel bar serves very good cocktails and is a great space for a drink. Would highly recommend this hotel

I have been to Edinburgh many times but never stayed at the G & V before. The location is very good, only minutes from the Castle and situated on the Royal Mile one gets to the sites very quickly indeed. Even Princess Street is only 10 minutes away. The staff at reception was very friendly and apologised to me since my room wasn't ready for 3 p.m. as guaranteed. It was worth the 20 minutes wait as I got a nice room with view to the National Library. The size of the room was ok and also the bath... Read more

The room, although we never spent a great deal of time in it, was lovely and the bed and facilities comfortable but the best thing about the hotel is the location and the service provided by the desk staff was very professional and courteous.

Great location, pleasant staff, decent size room, comfortable bed, and clean throughout. Noisy (lack of soundproofing), undersized cooked breakfast, bar closes to residents way too early. Not the worst hotel I've stayed in, but without a doubt, it was the worst 5 star hotel I've stayed in. We were a family & friends group of 16 celebrating a special occasion, all staying in the hotel. Why they saw fit to close the bar area leaving us with nowhere to congregate as a family was very disappointin... Read more

This is probably the best hotel we've stayed in in Edinburgh, I don't think we've wanted for anything in the times we've stayed. Even my breakfast requests were no trouble! If i was to look for a downside, it would be the price of the parking - there's no shortage of alternatives though.

Right from pulling up outside in our car, to leaving two days later, we were made to feel like VIPs. Location in the middle of the Old Town meant less time walking to see the sights. Although Princes Street wasn't real that far away. Perfect service, cracking cocktails and a fabulous breakfast.

I used to stay here frequently when the hotel was under the Missoni brand. I arrived a rowdy reception with a rather long queue (with only one person present on the two desks). When my turn arrived it took forever - the card machine wouldn't work, the computer froze - it does happen, but sitting there in silence staring at a screen, rather than telling me what was happening showed a lack of customer service (in my view). Stayed in a room on the 4th floor. The rooms appear to have had a bi... Read more

Modern with wonderful staff and creatively decorated rooms! All modern amenities! Great location on the Royal Mile. Bar area really nice and the hotel's restaurant was amazing for dinner. Though our room was not ready upon arrival they stored our bags and they were already in our room when we got back!

We'd rate this as one of the best hotels we've stayed in for a few years. Rooms are comfortable with a modern design and wet-room style bathroom. Service was good, as was breakfast. It makes a real difference to have the cooked breakfast done to order rather than as a buffet. We also ate in the hotel restaurant 1 night, which was excellent. The bar does a very good Manhattan too, choose from sweet, dry or perfect!

We stayed for a two nights to celebrate my wife's birthday. Check in was swift and polite. Our initial impression was that we were disappointed with overall size of the room given and the fact that there was scaffolding at all the bedroom and bathroom windows which we were not informed about when checking in.This was compounded by the fact that there were workman on the scaffolding at 9.30 am with noisy equipment which resulted in us not being able to open the wooden shutters in order to protect... Spent one night at the G&V whilst in Edinburgh. First thing that is apparent (apart from the kilted welcome at the front door that is) is the attitude of the staff which I found to be extremely engaging and warm. They could not have been more helpful or willing. Obviously this hotel takes it's staff training very seriously. The room was well equipped (as you would expect from the G&V) and very comfortable. Breakfast in La Cucina offered as much choice as one could wish for and I would highly re... Read more

From June 16 to June 20, 2016, my partner and I stayed at the G & V in Edinburgh. We were also lucky enough to have a dear friend join us and who stayed in another room. I could construct this review and make it quite long, but I will be as concise as possible by stating that the G & V should not have a 5-star rating -- it should be listed as a 4-star property. Though the staff are lovely and accommodating, they are inexperienced. No designated concierge, only three items available on the me... Read more

Excellent location, just off the Royal Mile, so easy walking distance of the Castle. The hotel offer valet parking but I was charged an eyewatering £35 for that privilege! All the staff were excellent. Not sure about the bright, stripy décor but that is of no importance to the overall experience. Bedroom was compact but perfectly adequate. Has a Nespresso coffee machine with a good tv and excellent wifi coverage. Immaculately clean with a good shower and nice products. Cocktails in the ... Read more

Central location from which you can walk to Edinburgh Castle, Arthur's Seat, the New Town, etc. Rooms are modern and well thought out in terms of space. Bathroom amenities are locally produced and organic and smell great and there is free Nespresso in the room. The first thing you notice about this hotel is that it is extremely modern. In the design of the hotel and the art and decor of the hotel. The staff was awesome and we talked to them for a few minutes about Scotland history and culture. Easy walk to the castle and other historic places. We drove in and valeted parked. It was surprising easy, and I was worried since I had multiple people tell me not to take a car to Edinburgh. The big pro's are the staff, the location and the shower was awes... Read more

I booked the G&V hotel for the last two nights of my Scotland trip. A lovely place with great staff. I arrived long before checkin time and there was no difficulty holding my luggage until later. When I came back after several hours at the Museum down the street my luggage was in my room. I was in a corner room with views over the city to the water. Stayed here just one night en route home to Australia after 2 weeks holiday in Scotland. First mistake was to stay just one night - should have stayed here 2-3 nights to make the most of Auld Reekie. The hotel could not be better located - right on the Royal Mile, spitting distance from the Castle and from a very old haunt of mine "Deacon Brodies" pub. Loved this hotel from the very first kilted welcome. The location can't be beat, right on the mile at the crossroads between the New Town and Grassmarket. Convenient to everything. There was a little mix up with the bedding in our room, which was corrected with an upgrade and we literally gasped when they opened the door and we saw the view. The deluxe rooms still resonate with sleek designer style thanks to the previous Missoni owners and the view over the old Edinburgh town was astoundingly atmospheric. In terms of dining, only had breakfast here and that was simple and perfect. Location cannot be beat?

Great location, really cool room, delicious mad-to-order breakfast and, best of all, the customer service was great. The folks who checked us in and out went above and beyond to help us with a couple of travel-related problems we had. It really made such a positive difference.

After a hellish stay at the Cameron House on Lake Lomond, it's refreshing to stay at a hotel which understands service. The staff are friendly and helpful. The location is superb. When an outside restaurant booking mistake was made and not necessarily on the hotel's part, the manager immediately phoned and offered us a 50% discount to dine at their own Italian restaurant which was good. The only downside is that the old Missoni decor is starting to look a little dated. Will stay again.

Overall we had a lovely stay at the G&V. On arrival the room wasn't quite ready although it was after the required check in time of 3pm. The staff however were very friendly and apologetic. The room itself was lovely although slightly scruffy round the edges which was a shame. The biggest issue was the temperature. It was roasting. We put the air con on but it had slow air flow. As we were going out we thought we'd leave it running so it could cool it down. On our return we'd found staff had be... Read more

The G&V was a pleasure to stay in, from arrival to departure. I loved the decor, the fab gowns in the room (sateen and towelling) and monogrammed slippers, the service, food and decor. and those bellboys in kilts- well, a fab touch I must say. The location of the hotel is perfect too...walking distance to Edinburgh Castle and, at the opposite end of town, Holyrood House, and all that is in between. Stay there if you can!

We were very excited to be staying at the G&V during our second visit to Edinburgh as part of our anniversary celebrations. That excitement was kept alive when a tall, kilted Pedro welcomed us like old friends the moment we got out of the cab and took charge. Our room, on the 2nd floor was spacious, as was the bathroom, except the sink was tiny and there was no view to speak of. Our problems began at 2 am of the 1st night. I liked the G&V. It's ultra-modern in decor, and our room was very small, but it was on a corner with floor-to-ceiling windows, and the view was SPECTACULAR. I didn't even care that the room was tiny. Service was good if a bit overbearing at check-in and "cheesy" in the sense of "costuming." I couldn't help laughing at the Italian guys in weird modern kilts, but they were friendly. The true shining star of this hotel--other than the wonderful views--is the location. We had a superior room 514 on the 5th floor. The view was stunning as was the decor; mini bar well stocked and free refills. We were greeted as soon as we pulled up in our car for it to be taken away..no drama, no forms. Very helpful check in advised on dinner and ghost tours, even offering to book if we wanted. If this hotel wasn't so far away we would return soon, but will definitely try the same group nearer to home in hopes that the service is the same high standard with a relaxed feel.
