Stayed here for a long weekend. The hotel was lovely and clean the room was nice a spacious and the location was good, 2min walk to the grass market. The people at reception were very helpful and friendly but when we went for breakfast the first morning the staff were so unfriendly and gave us the impression that we weren't wanted. One of the girls had to ask the manager could we have breakfast there even tho we were told the night before it was no problem. If they had shortage of space I would sa... Read more

The hotel is near to the castle and you can reach everything neccessary by foot. Unfortunately it does not have any parking facilities but you can load and unload your car in front of it. There is a car park 500 meters away for 15 pounds per day. You can have breakfast for 8 Pounds if you book it one day in advance. Compared to having breakfast outside this is a fair price. The food quality is OK, but I personally dislike scramble eggs that come from a tetra pak or from an instant powder. There ... Read more

We stayed at the Edinburgh City Hotel for 4 nights. The hotel was comfortable & impeccably clean. Staff were welcoming, friendly & helpful. Breakfast was filling & well cooked, & there was a large choice. We ate in the restaurant on the first night, taking advantage of the early diner menu - 3 courses for £15. Choice was good & the food was gorgeous. Our room was comfortable & nicely furnished. Really can't fault this establishment & we would definitely stay again.

This hotel has a great mix of just what's needed. The staff were very helpful, and even had a good number of rooms ready for us [group travel] despite a really early arrival time. The rooms are large and comfy. The bath room itself is likewise large, but the tub itself in our room was a bit narrow, though this was by no means a problem, just a note. The hotel itself offers a lovely pool, hot tub and sauna, which while I didn't use them, others with me said were quite nice. Wifi is good, and t... Read more

Stayed in this hotel for two nights and it was fine, but nothing special. I did not appreciate the way there was spikes on the window sill, presumably to keep the birds away. Our bedroom window didn't even open so I don't see the point of the spikes. The staff were lovely and our room was very clean. But outside was a bit shabby. The location was good, it was close to city centre and was a quiet area. If it wasn't for the spikes on the window sill I would have given this place 4 out of 5 so if s... Read more

I stayed here for four nights on a business trip in April. I would stay again. It's a fair walk from the city center and the university, but certainly walkable. The bar is tiny and mostly empty; the breakfast was good, and the staff helpful. There is no lift; I had a room under the eaves on the top floor and I'm glad that I didn't have any luggage to speak of, but the room itself was comfortable and pleasant.

My mum, sister and I stayed at this hotel for 4 days, June 14-18/16. The room was very nice, clean and spacious. We had not sound travel from any other rooms, and none from the elevator, which we were right beside. The shower was really good water pressure, and the bathroom was very updated. Great location and clean rooms. Plenty of outlets to plug in electronics, good desk area, roomy wardrobe for my clothing and shoes, awesome toilettries and comfy bed. I had a king room and there was plenty of room. I stayed alone so it was very spacious. The room was modernesque. The breakfast was good (loved the yogurt) and the staff were all very helpful and accomodating!

What a jewel this hotel turned out to be during our visit to the British Isles. My wife and I spent two weeks in Dublin, Edinburgh and London. Of the three cities, the Edinburgh City Hotel was easily the nicest of our accommodations. It's a little off the beaten path, but still within easy walking distance to the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle. It's an old Victorian-style building and doesn't look like much from the outside, but the interior has been completely renovated. The rooms are very t... Read more

My husband and I stayed for 4 nights to explore the city. Location was very convenient, easy walking to Grassmarket, restaurants and pubs. Bus stop just up the hill to catch the city hop on, hop off tour buses. Great pub, Brauhaus, practically next door. Hotel restaurant was good for dinner as well as terrific Scottish breakfast. Room was very comfortable, good size, bathroom well equipped, quiet even though facing street, elevator was convenient as we were on an upper floor. Front desk an... Read more

We stayed here for 3 nights recently and had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. The hotel is in a good location, within walking distance of Waverley train station and all the main sights. We had a standard room and this had enough space to relax in, the bed was very comfortable and the shower was powerful, which can be a downfall in some hotels. Breakfast was included in our rate, which was nice with cereals, fruits etc. followed by cooked to order breakfast. All in all we had a great stay and wou... Read more

We recently enjoyed a two night stay. We were completely satisfied. The rooms are comfortable and the staff was great. It is very close to the Royal Mile and the Castle. I would highly recommend this hotel if you are planning a stay in Edinburgh.

Really loved our stay at this hotel its in a great location to visit all of the Edinburgh attractions, our room was spotless and the bed was comfy had a great nights sleep as its a very quiet hotel considering its city location. Our cooked breakfast was delicious and it had all we needed also lots of hot drinks to choose from. The staff were attentive and answered any questions we had with a smile. Would definitely stay here again.

I suppose for a really well appointed hotel within walking distance to the Castle, Grassmarket and Princes Street and a minute or so from pubs, cafes, theatres and restaurants that $300 for 2 nights is OK - but it felt quite a lot at the time. Very comfortable room although I could here the traffic at night from Lauriston Place and foot traffic from below. Had a great breakfast of haggis, scrambled egg, sausage, beans. potato scone, mushrooms, bacon and toast with orange juice and coffee (as m... Read more

My partner and I stayed at the city center hotel for 3 nights and at first impression from the outside it looked rustic as you would expect a building in a Medieval city to look like, the interior however is completely modern. The staff is excellent! The gentleman at the desk when we checked in knew the city very well and recommended a few restaurants to us which turned out to be local pubs with live music which was just what we were looking for. We took a day excursion to the highlands which th... Read more

We stayed 3 nights and we had a very large room with a modern bathroom. Very well appointed. the only negative about the room was the carpeting which really needed to be replaced. Breakfast was quite good and the location was very walkable . They also offer an amenities package for 20 pounds that includes 2 nice terry robes, a bottle of wine and wine glasses, chocolates, and an amenities package that includes larger size tubes of creams and lotions. Really worth it.

We recently stayed at the Edinburgh City Hotel and had a wonderful time. The check in was very easy with David behind the desk taking care of us. He gave us very useful tips about things to do in Edinburgh while serving us the whiskey of the month. The rooms are large, clean, and everything functioned as it should. Also, the location is quite good. It's a 15 minute walk to the Edinburgh Castle and you are then on High St. where there are plenty of things to do.

What a find. Everything and everybody was perfect. From the check in to check out all the staff are very professional and friendly. I can't think of a negative thing to say about the staff at this hotel. We were greeted like friends by the receptionist and made to feel welcome straight away. In fact everybody were very friendly. I recommend that you pre-book breakfast for sure as it is well worth it. Room 204 was a little small but very quiet, despite being close to the main road, and an extra h... Read more

I have just had a short sat at the hotel and was very pleased with it. What was most noticeable was the warm welcome extended to us not just on arrival but any time we returned to the hotel or when we asked any questions. The smiles were genuine and the staff went out of their way to be helpful. The breakfast was excellent as was the one evening meal we ordered. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Edinburgh.

One of the most cleanest hotels I have ever been in. The staff were extremely helpful, bubbly and attentive at all times. The breakfast was amazing and very good value for money. I will DEFINITELY BE returning.

Just returned from 5 night stay at Edinburgh City Hotel. It was great. Location is good and we walked to many attractions. Plus it is just a 2 minute walk from a bus stop (both local or the hop on hop off city buses). There were stores and restaurants within a 15 minute walk. Was not "right in the center" of it all, but close enough to get to Edinburgh Castle, the Museum, St. Giles, Waverly Bridge all in 15-45 minute walk. The hotel was nice, neat and clean. Our package included breakfast ... Read more

Edinburgh is a beautiful friendly city. Both lively and calming at the same time. Deep in history but modern too. Many lovely places to eat and drink by just dropping in. Timed it right with Christmas markets opening and Street of Light show. Well worth a visit or a few. Cant wait to go back.

We enjoyed our stay at the Edinburgh City Hotel. The hotel was a short walk to the Grassmarket. The room I had was small but clean and well appointed. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms newly renovated. I loved the historic pictures and documents framed throughout the hallways too. Breakfast was lovely and freshly cooked for us and the coffee machine provided lots of lovely choices for our morning cuppa.
