I like this hotel and have stayed a number of times. This time was the only disappointment as the room was smaller than expected and despite very effective air conditioning which cooled it down, it was stuffy and lacked fresh air as the window only overlooking the garden only opened a couple of inches. Sadly the air conditioning was a tad noisy to allow a good night's sleep but everything else was excellent as always which made up for it. Though one robe in the bedroom seemed a little odd for tw... A fantastic setting in a fantastic period building, close to the city centre etc. The hotel was pleasant and the room was well equipped and spacious. But my room was described as a 'patio' room which meant that it was in the basement. Not very good for natural light.

We stayed here for 3 nights, the hotel is in a beautiful location and looks stunning from its facade, the interior is very traditional, our room was lovely and large, the bathroom could do with being updated, and fighting with the shower curtain I thought was a thing of the past these days, as most have glass screens. We had upgraded to have use of the club lounge, which we do in all crowne plazas we stay in, the evening drinks are always a nice touch, although here the lady was delightful a li... Read more

As my family and I have stopped at several Crowne Plazas now, we amassed a number of loyalty points and were subsequently offered a free night at a hotel. As my dad and I had wanted to visit Edinburgh for some time, we decided that we would visit the Crowne Plaza there. We decided to walk from the main station in the city centre as we were told that it was not too far away. In hindsight this wasn't the best plan as we were lugging suitcases up the hill to the hotel. Had a weekend break based here and found it enjoyable enough. Staff friendly and helpful. Room not huge but big enough and pleasant view of the gardens. Buffet breakfast was very good with ample choice - probably the best I've had anywhere. The only mark-down is for the room curtains, which were broken at the rail and would not close, and which proved impossible to fix during our stay.

That's the irony in my title. Crowne Plaza Edinburgh placed a card in my toilet saying "The small things make a big difference". Yet, the hotel does not live up to the exact thing they "believe in". Take a look at my second attached picture - the safety deposit box is placed ABOVE the wardrobe! I suppose most Europeans are giants but I'm sure even a tall fella who would have to stoop through the front room door would find it convenient placing and retrieving things from the safety deposit box! Although our recent stay at this hotel was not unpleasant, the experience didn't meet our expectation of Crowne Plaza standards, hence the average review. Visited Edinburgh November 2015 - stayed at CP. Nice hotel, ate in the restaurant on site which was really quite nice. Rooms spacious just disappointed with location of room (had to go through conference facilities to get to the room so felt a little like we had been downgraded) and single beds - not ideal when romantic break away without toddler! The rooms in this hotel were small probably because of the age of the building. As with other European hotels that were visited, there were twin beds for sleeping. The room had large windows and a big wardrobe closet with robes. The sides of the bathtub were high, so I would recommend that someone who has difficulty with climbing into a tub ask for a room with a shower instead. I found it to be quiet at night. Stayed here for 4 nights. First off, the parking. There is no parking attached to the hotel, which is understandable given the location and age of the building, but the solution is kind of difficult. You either park at a paid lot about a 10 minute walk away, and then get the ticket validated for a "discount" rate, or park across the street and pay, but can only do this on certain times. We stayed at the Crowne Plaza for two nights (23rd & 25th September). Unfortunately there was an incident with Scottish Water and the hotel ( along with half of Edinburgh) was experiencing difficulties with their water system because of a main pipe incident. We had a ground floor room and we were totally unaffected! Our deal included dinner on the night of arrival. The dinner was gorgeous and the restaurant staff were totally attentive. We booked one night's stay and that was definitely long enough. We were woken at approximately 5.30am by the hotel boiler, which was perhaps just as well as we didn't receive our requested 7.30am alarm call. We complained about the disturbance when checking out to be told that the boiler could be heard in some rooms and that the receptionist could hear it when walking around the hotel. Not a satisfactory explanation and with no apology

Was not overly pleased with our stay, if it had not been for the concierge (Scott) and a young Manager (Jack) I would of rated the 2 stars which is deplorable for an IHG property. The overall staff was good, although you could tell they were getting tired of apologizing for the hotel. The location was very good just a bit too far to walk to Old Town, 5 min taxi ride. Not sure where to start; the rooms are actually nice if you can get into them every day we had to get our key card renewed, syste... Read more

My room was exceptionally quiet with comfortable bed but all other aspects of the hotel were not up to the usual Crowne Plaza standard - furnishings, bathroom, heating, pool, Club lounge etc. The Club lounge is not smart enough to take a guest into or comfortable enough to relax in, does not supply a range of reading material (only Independent on Sunday and Scotsman during the week), no computer terminal, tiny canapes and wine/beer in the early evening and only continental breakfast in the morn... Lovely area not far from town and good night sleep, however the ensuite bathroom had mould on the ceiling and the shower space was so small it was uncomfortable. We waited 35 minutes for drinks and 45 minutes for food in the restaurant which was disappointing and the bar was often left unattended so we were unable to be served. On top of that, the room lacked a lot of info i.e. Restaurant menu, prices of the mini bar, checkout times etc.

Room was nice, INCREDIBLY high ceilings, nice shower room and lovely view of the gardens out back. Only a 15 minute walk from the station, (and the city centre), yet a quiet area with stunning views from the higher rooms at the front of the hotel over Leith and beyond. Slightly worn in parts, (but very clean), and evening dining lacked atmosphere when we visited. Breakfasts were good, beds comfortable, plenty of hot water for showers. That said, the room told another story.
