I like this hotel and have stayed a number of times. This time was the only disappointment as the room was smaller than expected and despite very effective air conditioning which cooled it down, it was stuffy and lacked fresh air as the window only overlooking the garden only opened a couple of inches. Sadly the air conditioning was a tad noisy to allow a good night's sleep but everything else was excellent as always which made up for it. Though one robe in the bedroom seemed a little odd for tw... Most enjoyable stay from the boro girls!! 5 stars can't do enough for you.! The Gardens are lovely to sit and unwind with a drink or 2. From booking a taxi to giving us good advice on a restaraunt. Service in the reception is so good and friendly people, nothing is too much trouble.

A fantastic setting in a fantastic period building, close to the city centre etc. The hotel was pleasant and the room was well equipped and spacious. But my room was described as a 'patio' room which meant that it was in the basement. Not very good for natural light.

We stayed here for 3 nights, the hotel is in a beautiful location and looks stunning from its facade, the interior is very traditional, our room was lovely and large, the bathroom could do with being updated, and fighting with the shower curtain I thought was a thing of the past these days, as most have glass screens. We had upgraded to have use of the club lounge, which we do in all crowne plazas we stay in, the evening drinks are always a nice touch, although here the lady was delightful a li... Read more

A one night stay after flying back from Portugal. Arrived around 6pm, waited 20 minutes to check-in, gave up waiting for bar service after 10 minutes, phoned for room service half a dozen times and no answer. No bath, shwer boiling hot, thermostat obviously not operable. Will not return.

As my family and I have stopped at several Crowne Plazas now, we amassed a number of loyalty points and were subsequently offered a free night at a hotel. As my dad and I had wanted to visit Edinburgh for some time, we decided that we would visit the Crowne Plaza there. We decided to walk from the main station in the city centre as we were told that it was not too far away. In hindsight this wasn't the best plan as we were lugging suitcases up the hill to the hotel. It wasn't exactly a very lon... Read more

Had a weekend break based here and found it enjoyable enough. Staff friendly and helpful. Room not huge but big enough and pleasant view of the gardens. Buffet breakfast was very good with ample choice - probably the best I've had anywhere. The only mark-down is for the room curtains, which were broken at the rail and would not close, and which proved impossible to fix during our stay.

I have just returned from a 2 day break. Shower did not work and was filthy. Meal on 2nd night arrived cold after a wait of 40 mins. and was sent back leaving us no alternative but to eat out. Bar man was rude and I quote " l'll serve you when I can we are short staffed if you're not happy go and see the manager."

The worst nights I have ever had at a hotel. How they can call the basement room P22 a bedroom I do not know. A constant drone from the Plantroom all night long. The rest of the hotel might be good. But if your offered a basement room decline.

That's the irony in my title. Crowne Plaza Edinburgh placed a card in my toilet saying "The small things make a big difference". Yet, the hotel does not live up to the exact thing they "believe in". Take a look at my second attached picture - the safety deposit box is placed ABOVE the wardrobe! I suppose most Europeans are giants but I'm sure even a tall fella who would have to stoop through the front room door would find it convenient placing and retrieving things from the safety deposit box! Look how many negative reviews. Mine is not an exception. We are deeply unsatisfied with our experience in this hotel. Though we made booking 3 months before we got the worst room we ever stayed in (-1 level, with prefix P) - dark, small, overlooking concrete staircase, with missing bathrobe, slippers, laundry bags, hotel directory brochure, empty minibar. Being Spire Elite IHG member, I was refused from upgrade. On top of that we spent terrible Sunday morning, when false fire alarm was screamin... Read more

Although our recent stay at this hotel was not unpleasant, the experience didn't meet our expectation of Crowne Plaza standards, hence the average review. Check-in was efficient, the Concierge helped with our luggage and our Platinum Elite membership was acknowledged. The four poster room on the first floor was spacious & comfortable, but there were a couple of minor glitches, in that one of the lamps and the safe box weren't functioning. The height of the bed could also be a problem for the ... Read more

My self and my partner stayed here at the weekend for our anniversary... We got to our room on the second floor and the door to enter the room was really really stiff, then to walk into the room which was freezing cold as the air con had been left on high with the window left open... Small issue but one that slightly annoyed me. We then went to use the pool facility which is lovely however I had to get changed out of my swimming shorts to get a keys for the lockers as there was a tiny sign say... Read more

Visited Edinburgh November 2015 - stayed at CP. Nice hotel, ate in the restaurant on site which was really quite nice. Rooms spacious just disappointed with location of room (had to go through conference facilities to get to the room so felt a little like we had been downgraded) and single beds - not ideal when romantic break away without toddler! Still good location in Edinburgh and lots of restaurants and bars within short walk.

Our family stayed for four nights. Our room had a lovely view overlooking the back gardens and the room was comfortable. We really liked the location - close enough to walk, if you are up to it, but not in the middle of the downtown. It made for a quiet stay. Was it perfect, no - the food/bar service was a bit slow, but the front staff were very polite/helpful and the concierge service was fantastic. Checking in to this hotel was a breeze and very welcoming. My status was recognised in advance and I was upgraded to a Club room as well we being given access to the Club lounge (canapes at 6!), plus 600 welcome points. The room itself was spacious and I had a lovely view out over the city. The hotel is nice in that it isn't huge - that's what I really like about it. I didn't get chance to try the pool or breakfast but I will do next time.

We booked this hotel with a Suuperbreak deal for a 2 night stay B & B. The location of this hotel is great. It is on a quiet street, a pleasant 5 minute stroll from Princes Street. Unfortunately we were given a room on the basement which wasn't the most desirable location, but it served its purpose for our stay. The pool and steam room are great, and a great way to wind down after walking the streets of the city all day! The breakfast was good, and had ample choice. We would stay here again... Read more

Oh dear, we had great expectations having read reviews at the time of booking our Superbreak trip to this hotel. I've left it a few days to review our experience to see if it would blur the memories but sadly not! It was disappointing from start to finish and fell far short of a typical Crowne Plaza experience. Unfortunately did not meet the standards of service we had expected from a Crowne Plaza. Rescued a bit by the location (very close to Holyrood palace and the parliament) and a comfy bed, our stay was spoiled by poor service and a poor room. Service was shocking in the restaurant for the evening meal (and a very limited menu), in the bar and worse still at breakfast when we waited over 30 mins for a table and constantly thereafter. Clearly there was not enough staff. Whilst the bed was comfort... Read more

The rooms in this hotel were small probably because of the age of the building. As with other European hotels that were visited, there were twin beds for sleeping. The room had large windows and a big wardrobe closet with robes. The sides of the bathtub were high, so I would recommend that someone who has difficulty with climbing into a tub ask for a room with a shower instead. I found it to be quiet at night. It is located in a residential neighborhood.

I love the location of this hotel, it is central but in a very quiet location, just a 10 minute walk to Princes Street. There are great views out the back to the gardens, and ample parking (pay and display) out side. All the staff I encountered were great. Room was available to me at 9am for check in. But I would not stay here again until the beds are replaced. They are flat, sort of lumpy, unresponsive, overall really uncomfortable. Overall they are due a replacement . The room I was gi... Arrived for check in and the room wasn't ready, no problem as we sat in the lounge and my partner and I had a complimentary beer and cappuccino. We where given late 3pm check out of the next which was fab and the hotel even kept our bags all day until we were ready to leave Edinburgh. Rooms where warm, clean and bed very comfortable. This was my fourth visit to the beautiful city of Edinburgh. My first trip took me to the original Crowne Plaza hotel which was later transferred to the Radisson hotel chain. This Crowne Plaza does not live up to the luxury that was on offer in its former building. My room was OK, though looking dated and it took two requests to have two of the four ceiling light bulbs in the bathroom replaced. The main issue was the breakfast service. Not a bad location. No parking so had to go to car park that was discounted for guests, bit of a trek. Door latch not working. No coffee milk. Key card went missing out of slot so only had one card. We have stayed in many IHG Crowne Plaza hotels so we had high expectations for our stay in Edinburgh . Unfortunately these expectations were not matched on our recent stay in Edinburgh. It wasn't the room, it was spacious, clean and comfortable. The bed was comfortable as were the pillows. Stayed here for 4 nights. First off, the parking. There is no parking attached to the hotel, which is understandable given the location and age of the building, but the solution is kind of difficult. You either park at a paid lot about a 10 minute walk away, and then get the ticket validated for a "discount" rate, or park across the street and pay, but can only do this on certain times. The discount parking at the Q park is 10 GBP for 24 hrs, which is great, but unlike the regular more expen... Read more

After booking two of the better rooms, we did have high expectations for our stay. In fairness, the location is good, the hotel has character and the rooms were fantastic. However, we did find that some members of the front office to be a bit cold and could have been more helpful - small things from not explaining the availability of the club lounge, to having to repeatedly ask for our free drink.
