Stayed here recently from 6th - 8th Jan for a weekend away as part of my 60th birthday celebrations. The hotel is in an elegant row of Georgian houses on a wide, cobbled, relatively quiet road with open views at the front, where our room was, to the north and over the Firth of Forth. Public areas of the hotel were pleasant and modern and we received a nice welcome from the reception staff on arrival. We also had cause to use the concierge service for taxi booking and they were very helpful. Bedr... Read more

I have to commend the staff at this terrific hotel. From the moment we arrived we were greeted at the door by the concierge, Scott and his colleague Jack. One of our party has a wheelchair. Scott and Jack were awesome and we couldn't have asked for better help in navigating the hotel and setting out the access ramps etc. The reception staff were also very good. Bar service was a bit slow most times. The quality of the rooms is faultless although the bar area is a little small, but thankf... Read more

The hotel is lovely the room I stayed in was very clean and very spacious for a twin room staff on reception and in breakfast room very friendly. Only downside was i was on ground floor beside entrance to corridor which was abit noisy especially at night with people coming in late also a meat free choice of sausages would have been good in breakfast.I stayed at hotel for one night because I was going to Edinburgh Playhouse to watch a show didnt realise on booking hotel is only about 5 mins awa... I have just returned from edinburgh, where i spent the weekend with my family celebrating my 50th birthday. Our accomodation was the crowne plaza, royal terrace, edinburgh. We stayed here from friday until today sunday. We had a package deal through superbreak, which included two nights accomodation, full english breakfast for two days, first nights meal, entrance to the castle and afternoon tea at the castle. All up £300. This was to be for two adults. My childcare fell through so we had... Read more

The rooms were average. They are the size of a typical American hotel room. The hotel is in a row of Georgian houses, and the staircase and outside were very elegant. The concierge staff was very friendly, and they provided great eating recommendations, and they were a big help in getting us cabs. The front desk staff was somewhat indifferent. The restaurant staff was awful. They did not seem to care about keeping the breakfest buffet stocked, especially if you were not a part of a tour gr... Read more

We stayed in this hotel 2 nights , the first night we dined in the restaurant as part of the weekend package . We both had 3 different courses and all 6 were very nice couldn't pick fault with anything . We had 2 days breakfast whilch were superb. .Contrary to some reviews we found all the staff friendly and helpful. The downside of the hotel was we found the hot water was no way hot enough . This is a recurring complaint off other reviews and their is only so many excuses the hotel can make.

Stayed overnight here with family and enjoyed it. Breakfast was good and was served by very nice staff. It is family friendly and the Canadian Lady who served us was great with the younger members of the family. The bedrooms were nice and the one l was in was quiet and the bed comfortable. Location was good near Calton Hill and was quite a short walk into Princess St to visit the shops. There is so much to see in Edinburgh that one day is not enough, so l would recommend the Castle and the old t... Read more

We visited the hotel for our 'mini-moon' and having stayed in other IHG group hotels, and from the images online, we expected this would be a really nice stay for our first time in Edinburgh. Unfortunately, check-in was late - and the room we did get (basement room) had a broken shower. I was sure when I placed the booking online that the description of the 'King Suite' was very different from what we received. In fairness, when we raised the issue, we were moved rooms but to be honest this was... Read more

We stayed here for the weekend, the staff are excellent, they really can't do enough to help you ,Tony the night manager was excellent, we really enjoyed our little lesson on whisky and how to drink it properly, if there's anything you want to know about whisky he's your man, Stevie was also fab, on the bar always happy to help, Our room was in the basement, it had everything we needed but the view of the water cellar wasn't great and the room had a really funny smell, but apart from this it se...
